Lion of the Blogosphere

New blog theme

Pie Face

Why a new blog theme?

People complained about the unnecessary white space and the Garamond italic.

This theme allows me to upload 696 pixel wide photos, as you can see above.

I think it may be a little bit too minimalistic.

THURSDAY MORNING UPDATE

I brought back the previous color scheme and the Adobe Garamond Pro for the blog title by editing the “Custom CSS.”

SECOND UPDATE

The Czechoslovakian lion is back.

  1. Well, at least you got rid of the italics headings. Those were an eye sore.

    • Lion, why don’t you blog about the owners of Pie Face and how they became wealthy by creating this new franchise? It’s involves value creation, and then ingenious value transference with a fee, something you never mentioned before.

  3. Value transference crisis at Dartmouth.

Dartmouth faculty just voted to refuse to accept AP classes for college credit which makes it harder for undergrads to graduate early. Dartmouth commenters blasted the decision on their online student newspaper:

Registrar to restrict AP, IB credits

The College’s new policy to stop accepting pre-matriculation credits for incoming students may impact students who wish to save on tuition by graduating early. The change, voted upon by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences on Nov. 12, will take effect beginning with the Class of 2018, according to Registrar Meredith Braz.

The College previously accepted students’ qualifying scores on Advanced Placement, A-Level and International Baccalaureate examinations as credits, exemptions and placements in some subjects. The faculty has been considering a vote to eliminate such pre-matriculation credits for about 10 years, according to the Committee on Instruction Chair Hakan Tell, who brought the proposal before the faculty.

The faculty based their affirmative vote on concerns that courses completed in high school do not equal Dartmouth coursework, Tell said.

  4. I liked the clean look of the last style. If that style did not permit posting good-resolution pictures then I can get behind the trade-off since I enjoy your photography.

  6. Where is says “with X comments” should be at the bottom so that I can click it to see the comments after reading your post. As it is right now I have to scroll back up after reading.

  8. If you don’t mind a lurker commenting: The new theme looks sharp. Maybe you could display your logo on the page to make it look a little less plain, though. A favicon might be good, too.

  10. I miss the lion-shield thingie. It was the single (and only required) piece of flare.

  11. I finally started to warm up to your new blog format and you made it crap again. PLEASE go back to the last one with the cool lion insignia and stylish but simple layout.

    Like the new look!

  16. Another that thinks the new look is a vast improvement. You kept all the good things from the prior, while ditching the annoying waste of white space and the overly narrow main column. However, I stand by my original suggestion that instead of a harsh white background, you should try a nice sepia.

  17. Czechoslovakian lion is key. I think you nailed it now.

  18. A small quibble: it’s a Bohemian lion. The crowned, double-tailed lion rampant is from the arms of Bohemia, which are marshaled together with the arms of Moravia and Silesia to form the arms of the Czech republic. The arms of Slovakia consist of a double-armed cross on a hill.

But maybe you don’t like the idea that you’re a “bohemian”! :-)

  20. I tinkered a LOT with my blog before I cut the ribbon, so it’s expected.

I learned much and can suggest..with a question.
WHY have such wide open spaces when you rarely post photos?

One pic-a-month means the sidebar gets cramped.

  21. I still have a window opened from the older theme and so I can do a side by side comparison. Not only was the previous Lion format more elegant the comments were also more prominent. Now the comments are too small. The original left to right layout was easier to look at as well.

  22. Yeah Gilbert you’re right – it would be right to describe it as Czech or Bohemian, not Czecholslovak.

  23. Generally good, but I find the semi-transparent footer quite annoying, and I wish you’d add a bit of padding on the left so the text doesn’t run right to the edge of my screen.
