Cows kill a German hiker

Last week, as reported by the AP:

Police say a herd of cows attacked and killed a German woman hiking through their fenced-in pasture after apparently being riled by the sight of her leashed dog.

They said Tuesday the 45-year old victim was rushed by about 20 cows and their calves. Attempts by an emergency crew to revive her were unsuccessful.

  1. I’ve always felt ashamed that as a kid I ran away from a herd of cows in a valley in Austria. Locals laughed. But I’m still alive, so who’s laughing now.

  2. Sad to hear this woman’s fate, but it migt be worthwhile remembering that anually, hundres of thousands of these intelligent and sentient animals are killed to satisfy the global beef industry.

    • Not true. These animals are killed to satisfy me. God bless them.

      • The next time some random thug on the street knocks you out and steals your wallet–try really hard to focus on the satisfaction that he achieved from the encounter.

  3. Don’t go hiking with a dog. People also get killed by bears and moose that otherwise wouldn’t have been a problem because wild animals get freaked out by dogs.

  6. Dogs herd cattle. The cows probably wanted to get revenge on her four legged companion for all the nipping and yapping they’ve endured. Woman was collateral damage.

  7. The fact that the cows had calves was a likely contributing factor, probably as much as the dog. Sows are especially dangerous when they have piglets. My brother-in-law was nearly killed by one.

Bulls and boars are dangerous all the time.

  8. Back in the 20s in rural Wisconsin my mother was chased across an enclosure by an angry bovine creature, if she were not a fast little kid I would never have been born. Sadly for her she grew up to be a narcissist and instead of getting the story first hand, with all the exciting details, I only got it second-hand, because narcissists are not interested in passing along to their children the interesting details of their life stories.

  9. The closest iv’e been to a confrontation with an animal was the time a homeless dude chased me out of his bush hovel.
