Elliot Rodger’s autobiography of beta-male rage, part II

Page 98, if this isn’t beta-male rage, then what is?

I remember when Vincent used to be a little nine-year-old boy while I was thirteen. He used to look up to me, and he always watched me play my online games on father’s laptop. Now, he was sixteen and I was twenty. He had the pleasure of having a girlfriend, while I’ve never had one. I was four years older than him, but he surpassed me. The envy, rage, and feeling of inferiority I felt almost made me explode with rage right there at the party, but instead I went to the bathroom and vented to myself in the mirror of how much I hate Vincent and wanted to kill him.

* * *

And when he’s not raging, he tends to be crying, which is not normal behavior for a twenty-year-old male:

When I got home, I began to cry because of all the emotions I experienced that night. My mother heard me and showed some concern, as she always did. She was used to me crying a lot, but she never understood why I was so miserable. I always had to explain it to her – that I was a lonely, miserable, unwanted virgin who women treated with disdain – but she could never grasp how severe this was to me. After all, how could she? She was a woman herself.

Some people might say that these types of crying meltdowns are a symptom of Asperger’s Syndrome, but on the other hand there are emotional girls who cry a lot and they don’t have Asperger’s Syndrome. His susceptibility to crying may be related to his effeminate demeanor (which has been observed in his YouTube videos) and not on mental illness.

* * *

On page 109, he takes his first major step to preparing for his Day of Retribution:

I had the knowledge, in the back of my mind, that the Day of Retribution was very possible now. Going to the shooting range while I waited for my laptop gave me the perfect opportunity to gain some initial training in shooting guns, which will be the main weapons I use as vengeance against my enemies when the Day of Retribution ultimately comes to pass. I walked into the range, rented a handgun from the ugly old redneck cashier, and started to practice shooting at paper targets. As I fired my first few rounds, I felt so sick to the stomach. I questioned my whole life, and I looked at the gun in front of me and asked myself “What am I doing here? How could things have led to this?” I couldn’t believe my life was actually turning out this way. There I was, practicing shooting with real guns because I had a plan to carry out a massacre. Why did things have to be this way, I silently questioned myself as I looked at the handgun I was holding in front of me. I paid my fee and left the range within minutes, feeling as if I was going to be sick. I spent the rest of the waiting period at the Coffee Bean in Oxnard, where I sat by myself feeling absolutely disgusted. My whole world was twisted.

I don’t think this novel is going to have a happy ending.

* * *

On page 117, he writes about the now defunct PUAHate.com:

The Spring of 2013 was also the time when I came across the website PUAHate.com. It is a forum full of men who are starved of sex, just like me. Many of them have their own theories of what women are attracted to, and many of them share my hatred of women, though unlike me they would be too cowardly to act on it. Reading the posts on that website only confirmed many of the theories I had about how wicked and degenerate women really are. Most of the people on that website have extremely stupid opinions that I found very frustrating, but I found a few to be quite insightful.

* * *

On page 128, where he writes about his sister having sex:

I arrived at the house one day, my mother being at work, and heard the sounds of Samuel plunging his penis into my sister’s vagina through her closed room door, along with my sister’s moans. I stood there and listened to it all. So my sister, who was four years younger than me, managed to lose her virginity before I did. It reminded me of how pathetic I was, that at the age of twenty-two, I was still a virgin.

* * *

It’s only 137 pages. The last four pages are blank.

  2. But … I finally watched the video. He does not look, act, or sound like someone who really wants to fuck blond sorority girls. He reminds me of Isabella Rossellini in “Blue Velvet.”

    If I had met him, I would have assumed he was gay and/or transsexual.

    He grew up around the gay-friendly entertainment industry, but maybe his Chinese mother or middle-Eastern stepmother taught him gay-loathing?

        There’s a phrase in basketball, “create off the dribble”. It means a player who can create his own shot opportunity. Most players can’t. They need other players to pass them the ball, set picks, etc.

        Rodger couldn’t create his own shot socially, but he kept flying solo and throwing bricks anyway.

    • I personally don’t find sunbaked Californian women to be as attractive as Southern Prole Belles on the Southeast Corridor. Any blonde chic on the South East Coast has better skin due to the humidity. Everyone hates humidity because it’s sticky, but humidity is good for your skin. Californian women are actually not as hot as people describe them to be.

      • So I guess this means you DON’T wish they could all be California girls?………..And you’re probably too young to know what line I’m paraphrasing here!

      • No, Californian women are overrated. The dry climate in the Golden State with their barbie glow and crusty skin women are no match to the natural beauty of the attractive women in the South, with their sun and humidity, giving them a vibrant, smooth and healthy complexion.

        However, Southern California is more desirable than let’s say South Florida, because humid weather is uncomfortable. It’s a catch 22!

        And sidetracking, when it comes to Hispanics, Puerto Ricans and Cubans in the southeast look better than the Mexicans in the southwest, but Caribbean Hispanics have terrible personalities, when compared to the easy going Mestizos. It’s another catch 22!

    • Occam’s Razor suggests he was an effeminate heterosexual. Otherwise, pretend to be straight for 140 pages so many years? What would be the incentive?

      Dave Pinsen

      May 25, 2014 at EDT pm

      • Gay people have pretended to be straight for a lot longer than that.

        Or he could be asexual, frustrated at his general loneliness and grasping at a caricature of sexual normalcy.

        His dad was in entertainment — you think he never had an acting lesson? Never had the opportunity for someone to critique his mannerisms and clue him in?

        Sheila Tone

        May 25, 2014 at EDT pm

      • The incentive would be to be remembered as a straight guy. Rich good looking guy can’t get a girlfriend yet cries and acts effeminate and listens to 80s music. Occam’s razor suggests gay.

      • Doesn’t it seem odd that (as far as I’ve seen, anyway) he never says a *word* about gayness in that rambling manifesto or those videos? A real heterosexual would give it at least a passing thought. He would at least ponder whether people think he’s gay. Encino isn’t Silverlake, but it’s not that far away. And he was around entertainment people! He had to be gay-aware.

        Sheila Tone

        May 25, 2014 at EDT pm

      • I’d say Occam’s Razor suggests that if you are a sex starved heterosexual you find a woman who will have sex with you regardless of her beauty ranking, you don’t put women on pedestals. The only men I know who didn’t sleep at least once with a real borderline (in looks) woman at a relatively young age (college at the latest) were either super religious, super beta or gay. Any evidence this guy was super religious? No, didn’t think so.

        I’m very suspicious of guys who put pretty women on pedestals while never finding their way to the numerous (too many to count really) middling women out there who are more than happy to oblige. I recall a guy who did this all the time and complained about his poor success with women. He came out of the closet a few years later. I wasn’t surprised.

      • “Gay people have pretended to be straight for a lot longer than that.’

        In times and places when homosexuality was scorned as a perversion, gays pretended to be straight to avoid humiliation and ostracism. Rodger embraced humiliation though: he admitted he was a virgin at 22. And he was honest about his social isolation.

        In cosmopolitan, blue state America in 2014, there is little incentive for a gay man to stay in the closet, and plenty for him to come out. You think his father, a Hollywood director, would have disowned him for being gay? Highly unlikely. If he had come out as gay, he would have had a crowd and a subculture to assuage his loneliness. And he would have had a much easier time sexually, both because the Twinkie look is more popular with gays than with women, and because gay men can have casual sex without dating, which was apparently beyond Rodger’s social skills.

        His parents set him up with social coaches of sorts — he writes about it in his opus — but it sounds like those “coaches” did little more than hang out with him as paid friends. He would have been better off with this kind of social coach, who would have helped him connect with women.

        Dave Pinsen

        May 25, 2014 at EDT pm

      • Once the guy leaves his manifesto and goes on a killing spree, Occam’s Razor and one’s own experience with other people go out the window.

        That said, even a lunatic does not attempt to conceal his homosexuality by consciously and openly adopting the persona of a psychotic, rage-filled, impotent beta-male loser. Moreover, had he truly been perceived by women as gay, he probably would have had more success with them than he did. Fag hags are a thing. The truth is that he had an absolutely repellent personality, and, worse than that, he was aware of it. There are only a few different ways this could have played out, and none of them were good.

        To be remembered as a straight loser who couldn’t get laid? Some incentive. If he were gay wouldn’t he have a stronger incentive to come out? Then he could have sex with other gays and as a bonus have the companionship of ‘fag hag’ blondes. Beats shooting yourself in the head, no?

        Dave Pinsen

      • To be remembered as a straight loser who couldn’t get laid? Some incentive.

        If he really was too ugly to get laid, he might be too insecure to admit that, but if he knows it’s not true, and because everyone can see he’s not ugly, it becomes a comfortable narrative to hide behind. Kind of like the good looking actor who goes on talk shows telling anecdotes about how he couldn’t get a date in high school, only to enjoy the ego boost of the audience reacting incredulously.

        If he were gay wouldn’t he have a stronger incentive to come out? Then he could have sex with other gays and as a bonus have the companionship of ‘fag hag’ blondes. Beats shooting yourself in the head, no?

        Then why is the gay teen suicide rate still so high? Obviously gays are much less stigmatized than they were 30 years ago, but there’s still a long way to go.

  9. The envy, rage, and feeling of inferiority I felt almost made me explode with rage right there at the party, but instead I went to the bathroom and vented to myself in the mirror of how much I hate Vincent and wanted to kill him

    He’s 5/7 on the capital sins. First of all, he is not gluttonous or slothful.

    Apparently, he is (1) lustful, (2) greedy (he wants more wealth and social status), (3) wrathful, (4) prideful, and (5) envious.

    How self-selected are the student population of UCSB and SBCC? Are the men typically above average in wealth and physical appearance (not merely being not ugly, but also possessing some physically dominant traits such as musculature and height)? If the men are more wealthy, then any financial and material advantage that Elliot would possess would only have a marginal effect and would not countervail his weirdness. There would be too much competition for the top women, and those women would likely have high standards.

    Still, I do not regard Elliot as a magnet, but I would not mind being seen with him. He would need to approach and interest me in some way in order to spend some time with him (but without being physically intimate). If we shared a mutual intellectual interest as that would reduce awkwardness of having to ask a random woman, we could talk. socialize, and exchange information about each other.

    Although I wanted to ride in a BMW with someone (not particularly Elliot Rodger), I just remember that there is a priest in a local parish (along with a rotation of about four other priests) that I attend about every month from my regular parish who is noted for saying that people on dates should go in separate cars and that one should not invite the other into one’s home for the fear of temptation. Of course, I rolled my eyes at this, and now if I adhered to this, I can no longer ride in a BMW with that music. But there are many other people among my Catholic fellowship who are scrupulously modest due to religious reasons (although relative to the rest of the female population I am modest but I am not scrupulous about it, although this is mostly out of personal preference, before I was a Catholic, since I do not want to apply make-up or keep up with fashion, or attract excessive attention from men) and would adopt similar conduct. One is about 5’5″ 130 lbs in her mid twenties with brownish, blond wavy hair, but she doesn’t have an childish face like mine as it is “normal”. She is quirky like me, but in a more neurotypical way, as she is often in a mood of subdued childish joy (but she is certainly not mentally challenged and certainly well above-average) as I am socially indifferent, aloof, blunt, and obviously socially inept and often to do not try to conform in social situations. I think Elliot would like her physically, although she isn’t tall enough to be his ideal woman; I would bet should rather be martyred than to go out with Elliot Rodger to preserve her chastity. Even the men in that group are more “alpha” in their appearance than Elliot Rodger (and this group is not selected for those with an alpha physique and demeanor).

        The American Catholic church is a big closet, with all the gender segregation and “chastity” careers. Because of that, I grew up with damaged gaydar. Insofar as it selects for rich, and rich people tend to be more attractive than average, it also selects for attractive. But there’s a lot of diversity, although most of the students are from Southern California in my experience.

      • Are they more attractive in the universalist sense, or they are more attractive (if you exclude Asians assuming that Asians are the least attractive males) because they possess more Caucasian features as a 1200/1600 SAT would exclude many who lack Caucasian features such as those with African or indigenous ancestry due to simple HBD. With similar SAT scores and academic qualifications, are UCSB students self-selected for attractiveness? In other words, are UCSB students more attractive independent of their academic merit. I suppose you answered this, although not directly, more wealthier students are more likely to attend that school, and they are more attractive. But I do not think childhood socioeconomic status and attractiveness are strongly correlated, since, even though their parents have attained high socioeconomic status with the assistance of their attractiveness and an attractive female can parlay that a financial successful partner, the children would not perfect inherit the attractive features. Therefore, socioeconomic background is not a good proxy for attractiveness. It is more likely that if there is any self-selection for attractiveness, it is direct, not an indirect association mediated by some other factor correlated with attractiveness.

        How much has the community college status diminish one’s prospects in dating, especially in the presence of other men from a good UC?

        If Lion is correct, Elliot Rodger has the ideal intelligence, not intellectually inept but low enough to relate to most people. An IQ of 115-120 is quite to this putative sweet spot. However, I also think it is plausible that his IQ also between 105 and 115 too, but 105 seems to be a good floor one can set with high confidence. I’d give him a wider interval of 105-120, with the most probable intelligence is 110 and with the 50% chance his more intelligent than 110.

        I strongly concur.

        I didn’t say this that his social problems would be corrected or that he would feel significantly happier if had religion forced on him. It is unlikely that a person in his state would even be receptive that a benevolent God created him to be in His embrace for eternity. He probably heard “Jesus died to save him”, but he did not believe in it.

        Still, I posted that since this is a case of someone who is almost certainly in hell according to Catholic theology, even under the most liberal interpretation of the “full consent of the will” criterion for a mortal sin (which of course is his spree killing and presumably unrepentant death). Although the capital sins are not mortal sins, he certainly embraced them and one could say that lead him to such a heinous act.

    • I agree with the points you’ve been making. Mental illness is first and foremost a stick used to beat those who don’t fit society’s rules. The concept of insanity originated as a way to distinguish those capable of work from those not fit for work, during the Renaissance era. Of course the concept of mental illness goes back farther than that, to Ancient Greece. There are definitely some people who are completely nonfunctional and incoherent. This guy was not one of those. He was capable of functioning. Therefore, any categorization of mental illness applied to him is merely a stick used to beat people like him, or excuse behaviors that are at least partially caused by society and not by the individual or biology per se.

      • not exactly a stick. although sadism is all too common a human trait.

        it’s rather an unwillingness on the part of his parents and counselors and the news media after the fact to look themselves in the face.

        but it’s even more. society and its particular constitution at any one time and place is taken as given by most people. that is, the prevailing way of doing things is not seen as contingent…is not seen as something which might be otherwise…it is seen like mt everest…”it’s there”.

        ideology, in marx’s sense, is human nature.

  15. “Some people might say that these types of crying meltdowns are a symptom of Asperger’s Syndrome,”

    The cultural obsession with “Asperberger’s Syndrome” is as bad as the whole “gluten allergy” craze. Obviously, this guy had major issues, but using a blanket diagnosis of “Asperger’s Syndrome” seems like a hammer seeing nails everywhere. It’s just lazy at this point.

    • For those who have a more “severe” form of autism or Asperger syndrome, it would seem that the diagnostic inflation would erode their sense of identity and whatever value the “label” may possess. Admitted, there is much value to the label, and it comes with no strings attached, that is no haloperidol, olanzapine, lithium, lamotrigine, MAOIs. or prozac, drugs that can exhibit serious side effects. .

      He doesn’t appear to have Asperger’s syndrome; while he may be socially awkward, he does not have obsessive, solitary non-social interests nor does he prefer solitary activities most of the time. Autistics generally have ability to process social information (this is not related to g since most people do this effortless and unconsciously) and perceive non-verbal cues. He seems more narcissistic and had almost no capacity to be sympathetic or empathetic. Furthermore, his voice has little affect.

  17. BTW – His sister must be on quite the emotional roller coaster about now. Her brother’s a mass killer, he’s dead and he left a long missive humiliating her by graphically describing her lovemaking (and he had to know he was humiliating her). Hetero men instinctively feel protective of women and don’t go out of their way to humiliate them. Gay men on the other hand . . .

      • not only that…

        it’s not even clear that there’s any such thing as “being gay”. it’s a completely new identity.

        as the one gay billionaire, david geffen, said regarding his relationship with a woman. “these things aren’t as clear cut as they’re portrayed.”

        heterosexuality is the default even for homos.

  18. Lion. He doesn’t have asperger syndrome. Just a sexually frustrated 22 year old with a litany of issues (like most 22 year olds), most of it stemming from his inability to real in the kind quality blonde pussy he felt he was entitled to. With a bit of socializing (i.e. strip club) and hanging out with the right people, this kid would have been any random sexually frustrated teen on the street. The thing with this case is that he had illusions of being an alpha, probably looking up to his dad, but doesn’t have the physique or charisma to get him there. Had he been more a nerd, he would have accepted his fate and buried his time in games and porn, or found an asian gf like the rest of the nerds, but he wanted the real thing. Not getting his way, he lashed out at anyone and everyone who wasn’t him. Notice his victims included foreign born asians who were his roommate (typical asians: studies, into games, weren’t very social), exactly the sort of people he should have empathized with but he stabbed them too and anyone and everyone at the end.

    • Yes, apparently his sense of entitlement came from his dad’s Hollywood lifestyle, and most likely also exposure to game nonsense such as RSD and Player Supreme, and probably lots of others. I wouldn’t doubt that this guy was aware of and read Heartiste. It’s just that we have documentation of the YouTube stuff.

      I use “game” (which basically means anything used for seduction purposes or charisma, so it means pretty much everything) and I think it’s important to know in this degenerate society. Unfortunately it also comes packaged with a bunch of degenerate garbage that can be extremely deleterious. Motivated individuals selling game may also exaggerate their success, thus making people with modest success feel inadequate. (Out of all the guys on Roosh’s forum, how many of them are actually doing better than average… 10%? How many are just basement-dwelling low status misogynists putting up a front to impress other guys… 75%? And 15% are just innocent regular guys? Seems about right to me…)

  19. I finished reading Elliot’s manifesto. A few random thoughts:

    In the year before Elliot died his psychiatrist prescribed Risperidone, which is for schizophrenia or bi-polar disorder. He refused to take it. However the fact that his parents took him to a psychiatrist (even when he was 21) shows that they knew there was something wrong with him. Right up to the end he seemed very immature and dependent on his parents, especially his mother.

    His Moroccan step-mother, Soumaya, sounds like a nasty piece of work if his manifesto is even half true. The family went on several extended vacations to Morocco to visit Soumaya’s relatives. In the third grade he mentions that Soumaya’s parents are divorced and her father lives in a very large castle-like house with an enclosed central courtyard. He writes about playing with three young boys there, who were adopted by Soumaya’s father. It seemed a bit odd that an older, well-to-do Moroccan man would adopt little boys. ಠ_ಠ Some years later when he visits Morocco again he mentions that one of these boys (now a teenager) shows him some porn.

    I suppose it is possible he was gay or bi, but somehow repressed it. His mother is an ethnic Chinese from Malaysia, so she may have had conservative ideas about homosexuality, as might his Malaysian grandmother (who lives in England). He generally writes with warmth and affection about his mother and grandmother, so he may have been greatly influenced by them. Gayness seems to only be accepted in the Western world.

    Although he was obsessed with the idea of having a pretty blond girlfriend, the fantasies he writes about involve killing women rather than having sex with them. He seems to find sex in general to be repulsive, and in his ideal world there would be no sex, and no women either, except a few kept for breeding purposes, and they would be artificially inseminated. If he was heterosexual you would think that in his ideal fantasy world he would have a whole harem of blond women to have sex with.

    In any case, Elliot Rodgers seems to have been batshit crazy. Maybe there is no name for the type of crazy he had.

  20. I agree there’s a pretty good chance he was gay. He does give off gay signals, and there is a strong human tendency to exaggerate, spin, or even outright lie so as to put oneself in a better light. Perhaps Malaysian culture has strong anti-gay beliefs and he learned from that side of his family that homosexuality is really bad.

    I also agree it’s extremely odd if his super-detailed autobiography makes no mention at all of homosexuality. If he was bullied, somebody would have called him a “fag” at some point. Or like another poster pointed out, he would have wondered if girls perceived him as being gay.

  22. As usual, most of the comments re: Asperger’s here give the impression that the commenter doesn’t understand what Asperger’s is, who the label of Asperger’s is supposed to apply to, and what specific utility that label is supposed to have. There’s no awareness of the history of the clinical concepts like autism, schizophrenia, etc.
