Beta-male rage in Seattle?

Someone shooting random people at a college means there’s a good chance that it’s beta-male rage again.

* * *

Remember that the definition of “beta-male rage” is that the perpetrator has no history of violence, criminal behavior or thugishness, does not have a wife or girlfriend and has below-average success with women, and is not suffering from a mental illness such as schizophrenia.

George Sodini used to be the most well-known case of beta-male rage, but that mantle of infamy has now passed to Elliot Rodger.

* * *

But a co-worker at the gym where he worked said he was “calm and nice.”

Annie Nguyen, the worker, told Q13: “So we worked with each other for about two, three months. He was an amazing friend. Good worker. He was really calm and nice. If you know him, you would not think he would do it – he’s just not that type (pause) that would do something like that.”

She said he went to the shooting range on a regular basis and had invited her once. Ybarra, she added, was sociable and frequented local bars. [Epoch Times]

But also this:

Ybarra, according to KIRO-TV, was obsessed with the Columbine High School shootings in 1999 that left 15 dead and 21 injured. Police sources told the station he even traveled to the Colorado site where two student gunmen carried out the deadly mass shooting.

That he is “clam and nice” fits in with the beta-male-rage profile. But this Vietnamese girl seems to like him too much for him to be an Omega loser. But maybe his rage came from being in the “amazing friend” zone all the time.

  2. I know I’m fighting for a lost cause here, but we really should be calling this “omega male rage”. According to the PUA/red pill taxonomy, a beta male is an average joe who gets *some* girls, while the omega is the total loser who gets nothing.

    • We started calling it beta-male rage, it’s too late to change the name.

      • How about incel-male rage? Just about all the men who goes on a shooting spree are sexually starved.

      • It sounds just fine, and is more accurate. Betas are the average joes who have at least a little success with women and can generally marry if they put even a little effort in.

Naming these incidents after average guys instead of exceptionally-starved guys only feeds the common feminist trope that any man can be a violent abusive killer and should be feared and excluded from society. “Omega male rage” it is.

Do you think grammar pedantry is a form of aspergers/autism, or what? I think it has to do with social aggression in public…I’ve been corrected publicly, IMO so that the person could humiliate me in the social group, them being the beta/omega trying to claw their way up the hierarchy. I confronted them on the spot and they claimed it was about making what I am saying understandable, and not trying to humiliate me (what I think is a lie; they could have corrected me privately).

      • I can write better and more proper than I can verbalize. I’ve been told that I’m a good conversationalist, but I sometimes get slightly tongue-tied when speaking about a work project in the work place – not nervous, just a slight struggle to get everything out in a nice flow. Many of my female coworkers have plenty of personality problems, but they are pretty good verbally.

    • Most people on the street would recognize just think alpha is the cool winnner and beta is the loser. That view seems to have won out in the English vernacular I think.

In primatology, the beta male is the one who is second in command. The beta male in group of chimps or gorillas would take over if the alpha dies or otherwise falls off his post. The omegas are the losers.

Sigmas are the bad ass nerds, who don’t play the direct game, but score anyway.

Steve Jobs and Paul Janka are what I call Sigmas. Guys with a lot of cognitive ability, but don’t come across as nerds and wouldn’t be called as frats.

    • Omega male implies a dude with zero chance with women, and often quite disgusting in other ways too (omega’s often can’t even make many male friends). Low-end betas, average proles born without a good enough genetics to be jersey shore types), are unlikely to have anything approaching reliable access to sex and are extremely unlikely to get married and stay married. I think a lot of ryan goslings character in blue valentine, that’s how most of those types end up (and yes, they usually aren’t as attractive as ryan gosling). I’m sure if this dude learned some PUA methods and spam approached he’d get skank poon on rare occasions, but is that any kind of life to live.

I’m sure that these guys all have below-average success with women. But I bet they have below average success in all human relationships, including with family, friends, etc. So you’re picking one area in life where they fail, and blaming it for their behavior.

  5. 2 random musings:

    1. Is there such a thing as beta female rage? I’m thinking of a Philip Roth novel, American Pastoral, where the protagonist’s daughter is driven to violence because she is tall and and stuttered.

More likely lovelorn hormonal young women just get depressed…a la “The Virgin Suicides”

    2. Does the beta male rage phenomenon have its roots in evolutionary biology? Maybe back in the Paleolithic, a weaker guy who wasn’t getting any love from women in his tribe would go take it out on a neighboring tribe, thereby freeing up space for his coethnics to pass on some of his genes. Or just take out some of his own tribe, shaking up the hierarchy of his surrounding group.

    June 6, 2014 at 12:48 AM

    • #2, with a twist.

The “weaker guys” of antiquity had other avenues to address and dilute rage. Weak guys now only have social media and smart phones which only increase their sense of isolation and social ineptitude.

Not all males win the breeding game. Many lose. We know this by observing primates. I highly doubt a Beta male chimpanzee internalizes his station into violent resentment.

Men really need to stop expecting that they will all be “good” at this and fill their life with other empowering tools.

      June 6, 2014 at 9:53 AM

      • Also, other animals don’t have the same sense of time that we do. A chimp will be annoyed that he isn’t getting any sex now, but will not become depressed that he hasn’t gotten any for 10 years. Other animals generally don’t commit suicide either, because they can’t think far into the future and decide that they will be depressed forever.

  7. It will be interesting to see how this incident is covered. The SPU campus, a Christian school, will almost certainly connect the religion and the self-sacrifice of the hero apprehending party (notable when compared to the cop pensioners who’ve been criticized for failing to act boldly in the past in such places as VirTech, referenced in the article, where 32, not two, were shot). The motive of the shooter here could be very interesting depending on whether he was responding to religious animus (the press don’t like this much as a meme). The media will want put this into a gun control narrative probably more so than highlighting the hero ‘save the day’ narrative unless a really interesting motive develops.

Perhaps more interesting to you should be the other two shootings mentioned by the mayor that did not receive much national attention, both with possible beta male rage components. The Jewish Federation shooting involved an Arab who shot six at a Jewish Federation location in Seattle. His actions were characterized as a hate crime and, by some, a fellow acting out of beta male rage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle_Jewish_Federation_shooting

The Cafe Racer shooting had five victims and was a two day story about a man with ‘anger management and mental health’ problems. Beta male rage? http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2018316552_roosevelt31m.html

BTW – Anyone see coverage of black youth mob violence over the Memorial Day Weekend? No? Wonder why?

Beta Male Rage (BeMR) strikes again.

They all seem to have at least two things in common A) Male B) Socially undeveloped (for lack of a better word)

I’m wondering if they also all had a fascination with shooting games or guns. There is a relationship with men and violent video games that translate into higher levels of aggressive behavior and risk taking. Women aren’t affected by it at all, probably due to a combination of genetics and social expectations. With many of these BeMR cases, it seems tell-tale signs of it are present well before the onset of their violent outburst. I would not be surprise if there were also a trail of clues leading up to this event with Aaron Ybarra. It’s been reported he was fascinated with the Columbine shooting. Will you be looking further into this as well Lion? A la ER. You’re becoming quite the expert on BeMR.

  14. Though not *precise,* the term “beta male rage” is however accurate. The idea is to describe a class outside of alphadom, which both beta and omega fall into. The point is that this rage, whether it is expressed in a listless beta married man, or a hopelessly bottom-dwelling omega, is fundamentally the same: extreme discontent with their lot in love, a condition that is antithetical to alphahood.

Rodgers was living the soul-crushing life of an entirely sexless omega, but I don’t believe that it was destined by his genetics. His repeated childhood traumas were never addressed in a meaningful way, and critically, he had no male mentor, leaving him hopeless and an increasingly delusional, emotional time bomb.

Had he managed to weather his neuroses until his mid or late 20s, I believe he would have matured into an average beta guy. With the application of game, perhaps a really happy and fulfilled beta. With true confidence and his family’s connections? Well, probably banging the hot blondes he so obsessed over.

Somehow Rodgers knew this: he *should* have at least kissed a girl by now, right? Yet he was powerless to overcome his accute anxiety enough to even talk to a girl. How this simple major defect failed to set off alarm bells for his family is appalling. He wasn’t just slow to mature, he was infantile in his tantrum throwing and prolonged crying. None of this would have mattered were he simply effeminate because he was gay. It was his baseline maleness that finally reared its head in an ugly way, from his demeanor in his videos to his final act of wanton ‘I’m taking you all with me’ murder-suicide spree.

Between what he had spent on guns, lottery tickets, and other shit, he could have purchased every book ever written on game. Had he read Roissy and Roosh with an open mind, he would have learned to make his misogyny work for him in a constructive way. Instead, he gravitated into an online group of like-minded losers that did nothing for him but amp up his loserdom.

    He took the blue pill.

“Game” works for men whose problem with women is not that they have social anxiety.

      • Have to disagree with you Lion. My crampy intestines and shaky hands are off the charts but Game helps by giving you a framework and a plan.

Almost everyone who denounces Game does so in vague, general terms – we never hear testimonials saying, “I gave this a good effort, here’s what happened, here’s why it’s bunk, and therefore I’m renouncing it.”

That interview with the girl was worthless. She looked and sounded like she was giving a student council speech. Who grins cutely when they’re talking about a shooter? She only worked with him for two or three months — not time to become “an amazing friend.”

This is just standard, popular-person, positive-upbeat-bullshit talk. And of course she didn’t want to have sex with him. She just feels like she has to say nice things because he was nice to her, to the vague extent she probably remembers. It’s not socially acceptable for a woman to admit a man is gross. She has to say “great friend, great guy, just not my type,” or people will call her a bitch.
