Eliot Spitzer taking advice from Lion

I’ve previously advised men that they are much better off having a nice girlfriend from a good family who graduated from a good college rather than hanging out with high-priced call girls.

Eliot Spitzer, notorious for not following that advice in the past, is now following it, and he has a new girlfriend who is an Ivy League grad and young enough to be his daughter.

The mystery, however, is why a quality woman like that would want to hook up with an old dufus like Spitzer? Maybe Spizter is also taking advice from Roissy and he now has “game”?

  1. Dartmouth? Ugh. Lowest tier Ivy League. Also, she’s not that hot, although thin. As for why she’s with Spitzer…you’re kidding right? There are plenty of women who enjoy being with older, reasonably attractive powerful men. And he is still a somebody. Do not judge female attraction like male attraction; the reverse situation would be REALLY unusual.

    • Spitzer is attractive?

      • Spitzer is not attractive at all, and his new girlfriend is not very attractive. She is with him because of his status in other areas, ex-attorney general and ex-governor of NY.

    • She’s reasonably attractive, and at least she’s got nice legs. I concede that she’s a few rungs below Princetonian Catherine Rampell, but she’s still leagues ahead of most.

And isn’t it obvious, lion. He’s loaded with cash. That’s a good enough explanation for me.

      • Any job that translates to immediate dollars and cents is prole. The essence of being prole is that money and maximum profits are the utmost importance to everything, and Finance is one of these industries. Most American brands are prole because everything is about profits over quality, not their inherent value.

Most people in Finance whom I come across, cannot think critically, have no cultural capital, know nothing of history, philosophy, or language, and can only speak of money making. This is of course describes most Americans, who are in essence proles or prolish.

      • @ JS — majoring in finance is often seen as prole-ish (yep, even at Wharton), but working in it certainly is not. Calling upper-middle class and upper class folks proles is just silly.

@TUJ — Dartmouth beats CAS handily, but Wharton beats everyone but Harvard in terms of placement. In terms of overall prestige, though, D>P.

(And Dartmouth doesn’t have finance majors.)

According to Wikipedia’s entry on Bernard Spitzer: “In 2008 he has an estimated net worth of $500 million.”

I think it also implies a certain lack of self-awareness and perhaps social ineptitude; not necessarily nerd or geek, but prone to reacting inappropriately in certain social settings.

Right. Rudeness, or at least curtness, is a common, almost subconscious, behavior by the upper classes or upper middles in the workplace when confronted by a lower status upstart. My guess is most who convey such curtness are mostly unaware they are doing so, though the target understands full well what is being conveyed.

Of course being a striving non-name no-accomplishment upstart and being too obvious about one’s ambitions is a sure fire way to draw such fire.

  8. Spitzer has major bad-boy cred. He’s a criminal, basically. He consorted with high-priced hookers. This is candy to the female mind. And he was governor of New York for goodness sake. The guy moves among the elites and his girlfriend can enjoy a super-elite lifestyle with him. And Spitzer has the most powerful aphrodisiac of all — access. He can get into the restaurant that you can’t. He can get into the exclusive Jay-Z party that you can’t. On and on.

Only in a very limited sense.
