Amos YeeMost awesome rant ever

Nerdy 17-year-old kid from Singapore, Amos Yee, lets loose with an awesome rant on YouTube, Lee Kuan Yew is finally dead. Must watch!

Too bad the kid was arrested and faces three years in prison. I guess he’s right about everything he said.

I hope that some Singaporean girl will want to have sex with him now that he’s a famous criminal.

  1. maybe he mentions the following in the vid, but despite the libertardian hype:

    1. 80%+ of Singaporeans live in public housing.

    2. 20%+ of Singapore’s economy is govt owned, much higher than the average for developed countries.

    • And yet the country has one of the highest GDPs per cap in the world. Which goes to show that when you show concern for population quality by not importing third worlders and ruthlessly suppress crime, the other stuff we argue about doesn’t really matter.

      March 31, 2015 at 12:16 PM

      • You don’t know anything about Singapore do you?

All their menial labor is done by third worlders they import. They just don’t show up in the stats.

  2. “the kid was arrested and faces three years in prison”

you know, it’s very easy to sneer at the freedoms we have in the West, but at the end of the day it is rather nice not to have to worry about being incarcerated for saying [insert idiot public figure here] is a dumb ass.

    March 30, 2015 at 11:49 PM

    • … says a guy who does not comment under his own name. It should be pointed out that LKY normally used western courts to sue for slander/defamation and quiet his critics.

      March 31, 2015 at 8:21 AM

      • British courts? Not American courts, surely?

        March 31, 2015 at 10:15 AM

      • “… says a guy who does not comment under his own name.”

In Singapore you can’t talk about Lee Kuan Yew. In Russia, you can’t say anything bad about Putin. You can say it sucks not to be able to criticize the leader.

But in the West, you can’t talk about blacks, gays, women with careers. If you do, you lose your job or business. While it’s technically legal to be a “bigot,” in reality it’s impossible unless you’re independently wealthy.

So instead of being unable to criticize an individual, here you can’t have an honest discussion about any aspect of public policy. Without being able to criticize groups, it’s impossible have a discussion about economics, gender roles, the institution of the family, crime, racial preferences, education, etc. Every single one of these issues is a minefield.

The truth is that, on the most important issues, speech is much more restricted in the West than it is in other countries.

        March 31, 2015 at 12:11 PM

      • “While it’s technically legal to be a “bigot,” in reality it’s impossible unless you’re independently wealthy. “

It depends on what kind of bigotry you’re talking about. Many blacks, homosexuals and lesbian feminists have made careers out of their bigotry.

        March 31, 2015 at 1:18 PM

      • In Russia Putin’s popularity is at record height. The ‘liberal’ press criticizes him and his policy, but it’s true that many regular citizens would be afraid to voice their criticism openly. I don’t feel this way and loudly denounce Putin for not taking over most of Ukraine, otherwise he is great and I would vote only for him.

      • The government isn’t the only entity that can hurt you. And they can hurt you without you knowing the source of the pain, or even why it’s being inflicted. It’s really not a good idea to write blog comments in your own name.

        March 31, 2015 at 7:47 PM

      • i’m a total bigot…even though i hate moustaches…but my bigotry is liquid nitrogen cold.

just keep it to yourself. and have the courage to be bigotted rather than rely on “science”. if you need “science” or facts to support your bigotry you’re a girly man.

and i especially hate people who use the phrase “independently wealthy”. seven syllables when one would do. just say “rich”.

Living under autocracies is a recurring historical norm; and much human progress was made under such regimes. Deliberately letting the worst of society cause havoc in peace time while suppressing the best groups has never been done before.

If you’re talking about America, most Americans are unremarkable, regardless of race. The current crop of youths who live in the best cities, best neighborhoods, are unremarkable, despite their superior upbringing.

America was never about developing talents: The status quo wants a country club nation with servants based on caste/rank who could be exploited.

      • JS is right.

the US has replaced racial, ethnic, religious, etc. homogeneity, as is found in every nation-state or ethno-state, with homogeneity of thought.

and this is much worse. much vulgar-er, much more despicable, much more dangerous.

that, inter alia, is why i hate multi-culturalism but at the same time think that HBD is bullshit.

the ethno-state tends to maximizes the potential of its citizenry (though not its citizens individually). the mere state, or empire, is necessarily Orwellian, but those whose potential is maximized within such a state naturally are its most ardent supporters, its most true believers.

present day HBDers are not only stupid…they’re not racist enough.

      • In fact he lost his job for being rude and abusive to the girl working the drive-thru window who served him with unfailing politeness, and for posting online, for all the world to see, the real-
timely video of his disgraceful behavior.

      • It’s a rarity that someone on the left gets that kind of treatment. That’s why it’s so newsworthy. Typically, a leftist jerk can rant all he or she wants and is untouchable. This guy would have gotten nothing but likes on Facebook or wherever for that same rant if he had done it to an adult manager rather than a polite teenage girl who took his abuse with a smile.

        Mike Street Station

        March 31, 2015 at 3:13 PM

      • I don’t understand why he should lose his job. He had not done anything inappropriate while performing his duties? This is crazy! I choked my manager at work and quit a couple of months later because I felt I wouldn’t have a future in the company after that incident. I could understand being fired for that because I did on a job site and he was my manager. But if I choke someone at my own free time, what has this got to do with my job? Maybe he needed it? A person should be judged by his work performance, imo.

  4. I’m no Singapore expert, but if they held truly democratic elections, wouldn’t it just become a Chinese colony?

    • This has to be the dumbest comment I’ve read on this blog, and there are plenty of dumb comments here. Can you explain to me how you arrived at that?

      March 31, 2015 at 7:27 AM

      • Sure, it’s over 70% Chinese. In multicultural societies there is typically racial bloc voting. So the Chinese would just vote for themselves, effectively making it a Chinese ruled country. After that, the communist party reaches out to them, they become allies and then it essentially just becomes a Chinese colony.

        Nathan Wartooth

        March 31, 2015 at 3:54 PM

      • “After that, the communist party reaches out to them, they become allies and then it essentially just becomes a Chinese colony.”

Taiwan’s a democracy and the Communist Chinese don’t run it – and it’s right across the Formosa Straits. Singapore is 1500 miles south of China.

        Dave Pinsen

        March 31, 2015 at 6:40 PM

      • Genes are selfish, less groupish. There’s probably no strong instinct for loyalty to one’s overall racial bloc (or anywhere beyond one’s nuclear family) because most wars were fought among members of the same race. In such a setting, groups overly altruistic to their racial group would divide scarce resources with everyone while the selfish would strike out to gain as much for themselves as possible. Selfishness in the vast majority of cases is the optimally fitness enhancing strategy.

If it were otherwise, Taiwan would never have become independent of China and no citizen of Hong Kong would protest their city’s treatment by the mainland. Not to mention the long, storied history of Europeans killing Europeans, Chinese killing Chinese, Japanese killing Japanese…

        The Undiscovered Jew

        March 31, 2015 at 9:57 PM

    • Lee Kuan Yew was ethnic Chinese and Singapore is an ethnically Chinese ruled country that has an express policy of maintaining Chinese ethnic dominance through immigration policy. “Democracy” could have many negative consequences or Singapore, but anschluss with China is not one of them. Nobody in Singapore wants to be governed by Beijing.

  6. And this kid using words like “our nation” is problematic. Obviously Singapore needs more diversity.

    March 31, 2015 at 3:22 AM

    • Devil’s advocate: East Asia is less dynamic than Europe and certainly, North America. Multiculti is what makes NYC tick, a great place, and the greatest city in the world. No place in the world where you can get a Mexican burrito at 2 am in the morning, not even at your terminus Chipotle crap fare, for those many unsuspecting idiots.

      April 1, 2015 at 9:04 AM

      • Multiculturalism actually isn’t a bad thing at all if you have a strong police force, as NYC shows.

        April 1, 2015 at 7:48 PM

      • East Asia is far more dynamic than Europe. The only city in Europe with a pulse is London, maybe Berlin on a good day. The rest of Europe is very pleasant, but quiet, filled with an aging population that expects the state to care for them.

An element of “Multi culti” is fine provided the population of African descent doesn’t get out of hand. That is why Hong Kong offers a better quality of life than New York, and London is also still slightly better than New York. Sao Paulo or Johannesburg demonstrate how badly multi culti can fail.

      • The commentators on this post seem to gloat about the repressiveness of East Asians at their finest, just because of their ironclad culture, which unsuspectingly puts forth a country such as Singapore, a micromanaged “paradise”, compared to a sea of dysfunctional, yet also repressive neighboring nations in Southeast Asia. I see the authoritarian behavior of Asians vis-à-vis Asians, as a end result of their inherent behaviors/culture. They need to be ruled with an iron fist. The same principle applies to the average East Asian student who needs strict external discipline from their parents to be on “equal footing” with Whites at the higher learning institutions.

        Lion of the Blogosphere

        April 1, 2015 at 9:26 AM

      • “East Asian” cultures are actually not that repressive. Hong Kong and Taiwan have done just fine without being particularly repressive or disciplined. Singapore is more repressive than other East Asian states precisely because it is “multi culti” and LKY was always worried about the Malay minority.

    March 31, 2015 at 10:23 AM

    • If a kid in the U.S. said the same stuff about Obama using the same colorful language, with an nonsequituir rant against Mohamed and Islam in the middle, conservatives would be cheering the kid on.

      • Traitors and enemies should be excoriated. Lee Kuan Yew was neither. The others are.

        March 31, 2015 at 1:15 PM

      • In America there would be consequences just as dire, just different. If someone made a video full of rage and profanity that went viral like that, there is no doubt that they would have a problem finding a good job, which could ruin their life.

LKY is not someone on the level of Obama. He built that nation out of a swamp but more, he led a nation of Chinese Communist sympathizers safely away from Communism while nearby China was being shredded in the Cultural Revolution. Led in the Moses sense of the word.

        March 31, 2015 at 1:33 PM

      • True, but he probably wouldn’t get into a good college or ever be hired for a professional position with that in his background. Complaining about Obama on social media is the equivalent of saying, “Don’t hire me because I’m a racist-sexist-homophobe/Islamaphobe.” Unless you’re anonymous online, you would be unemployable,

By the way, why even post this video. It’s a dumb kid who doesn’t really know anything. He has all the wisdom of knowing how the world should be run as a college freshman.

  13. Lee Kuan Yew was a genius. Amos Yee is just the typical scrawny marxist punk with a big mouth you see agitating for “change” on every college campus.

    March 31, 2015 at 10:43 AM

    • I tend to agree. Lee Kuan Yew was probably the smartest head of state of the past century. What he did with Singapore was amazing. Yes, he was a bit tyrannical, but ever there was a benevolent despot it was Lee Kuan Yew.

and of course the smartest head of state ever was Richard Nixon.

what would singapore have become sans Yew?

likely the exact same place in economic terms. it’s a natuarl entrepot. it is to shipping what saudi arabia is to oil.

but like Argentina, as soon as it’s made redundant it will fall into relative poverty. the panama canal did it to the Argies. what will do it to Singapore.

      • “what a joke. a conservative giving politicians credit for the economic success. of their countries”

No not a joke. It takes a lot to suppress the Communist urge, the socialist urge, the restributive urge. Ironic that you are missing this considering that Robert Gabriel Mugabe did the opposite and ruined a thriving economy. Indeed the success of Rhodesia versus the disaster of Zimbabwe is the distilled essence of this point.

        April 1, 2015 at 9:53 AM

      • “It takes a lot to suppress the Communist urge, the socialist urge, the restributive urge. “

Exactly. He had to swim upstream against the pro-communist Chinese majority in Singapore to make the country what it is. Ross’s snark about me calling LKY a genius, is because he wants to use the government to make the world flat. Libertarians have no interest in making the world flat. I agree with them on that point. But neither do I object to using a heavy hand to put a stop to marxist bullshit. Mao and Pol Pot have shown that one could do a lot worse than Franco or Pinochet. If I had to choose I’d make the right choice. Pardon the pun.

  15. He’s officially charged for distributing obscene material, harassment, and offending Christianity.

It’s hard to see him getting the sympathy he’s been getting if he had made obscene rants offending say blacks or Muslims.

In principle, I don’t know if political figures being able to sue people for defamation and slander is a bad thing. Much of contemporary democratic politics involves the media and liberals being able to launch a litany of false or misleading insinuations about their opponents and people they don’t like.

    March 31, 2015 at 1:37 PM

  16. I remember in the ’90s some American punk got sentenced to canning in Singapore, and William Safire wrote a few critical columns about it.

Canning seems like it could be a beneficial form of punishment for some crimes in the US though. E.g., littering, shoplifting, minor vandalism, etc. Instead of putting a teen or young adult in prison where he can get socialized as a criminal and gain street cred (and it costs maybe $100 per day to house him), cane his ass in public. It’s painful, it’s cheap, it doesn’t do permanent damage, and it does nothing to increase his street cred.

    Dave Pinsen

    March 31, 2015 at 6:45 PM

    • Canning is a very good punishment. Cosaks fighting Ukrainian fascists in Novorosiya have revived flogging as a punishment for a breach of the military discipline. Both canning and flogging are very good for Cosaks, Chinese and NAMs, especially NAMs. I don’t think that white Europeans need to be flogged.

      Scroll forward 3 min.

    March 31, 2015 at 8:21 PM

  22. This is why democracy sucks. Over half a century you lead the best-run government in the world to the point where student of public policy all over the world are marveling at your results and some spoiled kid uses the easy wealth he was born into as a platform to bitch and moan.

Sheesh. I believe in freedom of speech even for clueless losers, but I sure don’t feel bad for this clown facing 3 years in the slammer.

Government spending in Singapore is 17% of GDP but they can’t criticize the government. Boo hoo. Best health outcomes in the world for one fourth the cost, lowest crime in the world, stable currency, high household wealth and economic security, phenomenal growth — in Singapore you have the freedom to thrive. I would trade the Singapore government for our own in a heartbeat.

P.S. His stats are largely BS. One example: I checked the World Happiness Report from Wikipedia and Singapore is currently Ranked #30, ahead of South Korea (#41), Taiwan (#32), Japan (#43), Malaysia (#56), and Hong Kong (#64).

What the kid really needs is just some perspective – he should be forced to spend a year in some failed kleptocratic state where the leaders are only interested in enriching themselves from oil and gas revenues, like Mexico, Venezuela, or Russia.
