The Pope loves Obama and Obama loves the Pope

At least that’s the implication of the NY Times article, Pope Francis, at White House, Praises Obama’s Action on Climate Change. I confess that I didn’t read the article because it looks boring, but I think this is one of those types of articles where the headline is all you need to read to know what it’s about.

  1. Offtopic, but related to religion, what do you make of this.. Dalai Lama says female successor would have to be attractive —

    • He’s just saying out loud what every single movie director knows when hiring female actresses. Or what every single TV news director knows when hiring female anchors.

    • “Dalai Lama says female successor would have to be attractive”

Since he believes his successor is actually him reincarnate, what this really is, is a Caitlin Jenner-type impulse.

Shouldn’t the left be celebrating? Dalai Lama wants to become sexy woman?

  2. Well, of course they love each other. They’re both dependent on creating and perpetuating poverty stricken underclasses for their ideologies to survive. They’re both corporatists. They both happily insulate themselves from the chaos their policies create. They both love said chaos, but woe betide anyone who goes after their own tribes.

Basically, they’re both awful, awful people.

    • They are both symptomatic of decline in the once all-powerful institutions over which they preside. Both use whatever residual power that remains for the purpose of destroying those things that gave them their power in the first place.

The Pope has been one of the big cheerleaders for third world immigration to the West. Seeing as people in the West consume more resources than those in third world countries you would have thought that he would oppose immigration on the grounds that it would make climate change worse.

But of course liberals rarely bother working out the consequences of their own supposed beliefs because in truth they don’t really believe in them themselves. ~

Similarly, I’ve always thought it odd that people who claim to believe in the eternal torment of Hell seem to end up having the biggest families. If you knew there was a 50% chance your children would be born with a painful, life-ruining defect would you still have children? Yet Catholics seem to think nothing of spitting out dozens of children at least one of whom, statistically, will surely end up ‘where their worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched.’

      • Large families were encouraged by the Roman Church in order to increase their numbers and future revenue streams. Plus, Catholics are notorious proles.

  3. Apparently the love only goes so far, at least on the Obama side. From the WSJ:

On the eve of Pope Francis’s arrival in the U.S., the Vatican has taken offense at the Obama administration’s decision to invite to the pope’s welcome ceremony transgender activists, the first openly gay Episcopal bishop and an activist nun who leads a group criticized by the Vatican for its silence on abortion and euthanasia.

According to a senior Vatican official, the Holy See worries that any photos of the pope with these guests at the White House welcoming ceremony next Wednesday could be interpreted as an endorsement of their activities.

The tension exemplifies concerns among conservative Catholics, including many bishops, that the White House will use the pope’s visit to play down its differences with church leaders on such contentious issues as same-sex marriage and the contraception mandate in the health care law.

The hypocrisy is just overwhelming. Obama invites critics of the Pope to the welcoming ceremony. But no critics of the Castro boys and their Gulag state were allowed anywhere the ceremony in Havana celebrating the reopening of the US embassy there. And no Chinese dissidents could get anywhere President Xi while he visits the US. The Pope makes a big deal about “reaching out” to the marginalized members of American Society – homeless, prisoners, etc. But he made no effort to “reach out” to marginalized members of Cuban society – the dissidents and critics of the regime. When two members of the dissident community tried to attend the papal mass, they were arrested by the secret police. Pardon me while I throw up.

    • The Pope should have known better than to trust a chain smoking politician from the state of Illinois.

      September 23, 2015 at 7:49 pm

    • This is a real humiliation. Why Vatican submits to it?

  4. Both are anti-american. America was founded as a protestant country and letting pope address the Congress is another sure sign of the loss of a national identity.

    September 23, 2015 at 9:03 pm

    • There are zero protestants, six Catholics and three Jews on the Supreme Court.

      September 24, 2015 at 7:43 am

      • It’s a secular court, so theoretically it shouldn’t matter.

  5. Is it just a trick of perception, or is the media more preoccupied with the Pope since the election of Francis?

    Google Trends suggests the latter.
