  2. Sidetracking a bit, I’ve been stories that dumpster divers who pick up recyclable cans and bottles, are able to rake in as much as a middle class salary, with some exceptional individuals, hitting the six figure mark. This of course, is all about social networking. Restaurants, eateries and bars, who are willing to dump their containers exclusively for you, so you can collect a large sum at the supermarket.

    • What would you spend your money on, if you are a dumpster diver? Rats don’t require human money.

      • A lot of dumpster divers I saw in NYC were older people. Perhaps they need to pay rent to their slumlords or supplement their social security/disability payments.

    • Yeah, that’s a nice story you got there sport, but if going through the garbage is so lucrative then why are those hobos sleeping in the park? Are they claustrophobic?
If you want to make good money dealing in garbage, I suggest you get a job as a garbage man. They work real early, make a shockingly high salary with great benefits, and then have the rest of the day to spend with strippers and other girls who don’t want to date guys who live like Oscar the Grouch.

  3. Not.long ago rooting through garbage was only for the most bedraggled skells. Now it’s trendy.

  4. I would hardly call dumpster diving a “hunter gatherer” life style. Traditional hunter gatherers lived off the land. They didn’t scrounge other peoples’ garbage.

    • Hunter gatherers lived off the environment that was presented to them, so I suppose you could argue these people are doing the same. Similar to the way foxes have adapted themselves to urban living in England. You can see them flitting about in thr early hours, ripping open bin bags and sorting through the rubbish, just like these freecyclers. Maybe the urban fox could be the emblem of this nascent movement?

  5. A few days ago on Bay Area radio the big story was that Safeway has a policy of not confronting food thieves. Then a bunch of security guards texted in that ther only responsibility is to shield employees from assault. So, at least on the west coast, there’s no need to dumpster-dive for food.

  6. Freegans are a hipster subgroup who are forward thinking enough to see the endgame here in the USA. Freegans are usually the sort who teach free classes on how to garden, cobble shoes and fix bikes and other vehicles.

Don’t knock all hipsters, some are really worthwhile.

  7. When we lived in Manhattan the wife and I would carry home furniture left on the street near the apartment buildings of wealthy people.

    • These days that’s a good way to get bed bugs.

  8. My husband once saw [billionaire] Ike Perlmutter dumpster diving in a company dumpster. A full 3/4 of his body was in the bin as he scrounged around.

There’s a good french documentary on this topic, “Les glaneurs et la glaneuse” (roughly translated Mr. and Mrs. Gleaner). Frenchpersons both rich and poor scrounge through discarded potato heaps and restaurant refuse for treasures.

  9. Off topic:

    Hey Lion,

So I know you categorize most of these spree killer types as either schizo, or nerdy and/or socially awkward beta male ragers (and I think there’s some truth to this). But a lot these guys seem to have traits from both categories. I mean, a lot them like the Elliot Rodger loser were incredibly delusional about human relationships. They weren’t getting the attention they felt entitled to, so they built up a self-image that they were superior to everyone else, a self-image that was almost entirely false. Seems almost schizo to me.

I believe a lot mental illnesses overlap and trying to categorize crazy people into one box vs. another is kinda silly.

    • You’re on the right track. The field of mental health has been in crisis for years over the topic of “comorbidity”

  10. i’ve known about freeganism for a while because a guy i used to know became one. he made the transition from an ultra self rightenous vegan to a freegan. though probably a lot of obnoxious work, it doesn’t really seem that bad in practice; freegans target the dumpsters behind supermarkets which throw out a lot of perfectly fine food.

  11. This is a white thing. They are just fooling around. The blacks and Hispanics get government assistance and don’t eat from dumpsters. These whites are degenerate erases that don’t want to work.

    October 3, 2015 at 7:33 pm

    • I get up early enough to see them in action, and 80% of dumpster divers are little East Asians. They’re not eating what they find, they’re looking for stuff they can sell or recycle.

  12. My parents used to do this when we first migrated, but mostly for furniture, clothes and computer stuff. We would drive around in the nighttime to do it, I usually sat in the car to protect it from the cops while my dad stuffed the flatbed area with goodies.

Btw. Only small timers take recyclables back to supermarkets. There are centers for it. Some middle aged NAM men I used to hang out with in my teens collected scrap metal and cans in the daytime as well.

  13. Just goes to show you, there is a market and trend for anything and everything in the US.

    • Correct, everything in Meriprolestan is slapped with a price tag. Money is a gatekeeper for men, who want to socialize with desirable women.

  14. Nobody here remembers Sanford and Son?

      • Better say that in Spanish, ese.

        October 4, 2015 at 7:34 pm

      • Lion, you forgot Fred Sanford’s famous line :”you hear that Elizabeth, honey? I’m comin up to join ya!”

  15. Well all of you wondered I suppose what life would be like if White people became a minority. Take a good look. Realize these crazy liberetards are just fine living like rats.
