Planned parenthood shooter was anti-abortion

It’s now clear that the shooter targeted Planned Parenthood because he was opposed to the organization. (Of course, this seemed obvious from the get-go, but some commenters kept insisting that it was just a coincidence that Planned Parenthood was involved.)

Although the shooter has some serious mental health issues and is not known to be part of an organized Christian group, there is no doubt that the constant accusation of Christians that Planned Parenthood is “murdering babies” created the justification in this guy’s head that it’s OK to go there and shoot the place up.

  1. Not so fast. No PP employees or patients were killed. If he thought that they were baby murderers, why didn’t he shoot any of them?

It seems possible that his gripes with PP were the items in the news: selling fetal body parts and taking federal money.

    • The shooter was mentally unstable and not a trained terrorist. PP apparently has safe rooms and bullet proof vests in their facilities for this kind of situation. This particular facility was on high alert because of the protests at the facility following the release of the videos. The PP employees and patients apparently either escaped the building or locked themselves in the safe rooms. PP does not want to give details of how they were able to do this, because they don’t want to reveal what security procedures PP uses. The news stories are vague, but it is possible the shooter never got past the waiting room.

      • Still, if somebody came in and just started shooting, it seems unlikely everyone would get away unscathed. If nobody got hurt at PP, but at least six other non-law enforcement victims were shot, I think some skepticism is appropriate. I can believe the guy didn’t like abortion or otherwise had issues with PP, but based on the facts currently out there I’m not convinced PP was the primary target.

      • You remember that the last anti abortion shooter went and shot George Tiller at church. He seems more like the zealot type. I will bet he wasn’t a schizo. He was just eat up with wanting to stop a creepy abortionist. George Tiller was just one step down from Kermit Gosnell and had far more political contacts.

    • The guy was crazy and probably was going to find some target at some point. Is there a way to eliminate every contentious issue from the media? It is always something. But the main thing is that the guy is a crazy. Plenty of people devote their whole lives to either promoting abortion or protesting abortion, but they do not grab a gun and shoot random folks in proximity to the place they disagree with. Cecil Richards has not gone on a shooting rampage, nor has the president of Right to Life.

The man’s main impetus is his insanity, not whatever issue he chose to latch onto.

  2. Let’s not remain ignornat and misinformed as to what the Bible really says about the worth of a child or fetus, so here is a cheat sheet for those who claim to follow the Bible and also are against abortion:

Passages supporting child abuse and abortion:
    1 Kings 16:34, 1 Samuel 15:3,11-18, 2 Kings 2:23-24, 15:16, 2 Samuel 12:14, Deuteronomy 21:18-21, Exodus 12:29, 20:9-10, 21:22-23, Genesis 38:24, Hosea 9:11-16, 13:16, Isaiah 13:15-18, Jeremiah 11:22-23, 19:7-9, Judges 11:30-40, 19:24-29, Kings 6:28-29, Lamentations 2:20-22, Leviticus 20:9, 26:30, 27:6, Mark 7:9, Numbers 5:11-21,5:21-21,27-28, 31:15-17, Psalms 135:8 & 136:10, 137:8-9

Passages opposing child abuse and abortion in the Bible: NONE! Note: a fetus is not defined as child or even an individual but as a servable part of the mother (water like in the Torah), and God commands the killing of innocent babies, and children- but where does he forbid it?

    • You don’t need all the Bible shit to be in support of abortion. Take a walk through Baltimore.

      November 29, 2015 at 11:53 am

    • Uh, the Bible pronounces the guilt of every person at conception. So, there is no such thing as an innocent child in the eyes of God. I get that you don’t agree with that position, but that is the position.

  3. The lies of the Church (and it’s followers) are wearing so thin that even the Pope denounced Christian ideology, here’s what he said:

“The faith becomes an ideology and ideology frightens.
    Ideology chases away the people.
It creates distances between people and it distances the Church from the people.
But it is a serious illness, this Christian ideology.” – Pope Francis

Pope: When faith becomes an ideology, it can make Christians hostile and arrogant

    • Those blog posts appear to be completely wrong. There’s no evidence in the news that this was anything but a crazy guy going into Planned Parenthood.

      • I think that’s his point, that you cannot trust the mainstream news.
I’m not agreeing with him, just pointing out.

      • I don’t trust the MSM to tell all of the facts if those facts are too inconvenient for the meta-narrative, but in this case I don’t see that. It’s pretty clear-cut case of a nut going into a Planned Parenthood office. This is a case of CONSERVATIVES doing what they accuse of MSM of, of making up fake facts in order to change the narrative to something they like better.

  4. What is the overlap between anti-abortion and Christianity?

Surely, there are antis who aren’t Christians?

    November 29, 2015 at 11:22 am

    • It’s pretty much only Christians who get really worked up about abortion. Orthodox Jews don’t agree with abortion, but they don’t make opposing it a focal point of their religion.

      • They are smart enough to see that if people not in their own group choose to kill off their own kids, then that group is dysfunctional. I would bet at least some would vote against legal abortion on moral grounds, however.

  5. “but some commenters kept insisting that it was just a coincidence that Planned Parenthood was involved.”

I haven’t been following this story, but I do know that the MSM is extremely hungry for stories which confirm their worldview that the most evil people on the planet are conservative white men. So if such a story comes out, it’s reasonable to be skeptical until there is solid evidence.

    November 29, 2015 at 11:26 am

    • The cops, who are in a conservative town and are probably anti-abortion themselves, would have no motivation to falsify the facts of what happened in order to make a bank robbery appear to be a politically motivated crime against Planned Parenthood.

  6. I would like to go where the facts take us, but it’s so very difficult to determine what those are when it’s going through the filter of a news media that has such a blatant agenda.
