Mr. Robot

Thank you to commenters who recommended this TV series. It was awesomely mind-bending.

Additionally, I really appreciated how it looked to be authentically filmed in New York. I recognized the block in Chinatown where Elliot lives. Unlike the series Daredevil which supposedly takes place in Hell’s Kitchen but was actually filmed in Brooklyn, I actually recognized a Hell’s Kitchen location in this series. There was a scene that took place at a ballet class, and I could identify it as the Alvin Ailey at 55th Street and 9th Avenue. Coney Island also plays a prominent geographical role in the series. It’s authentically New York.

The series does a great job of showing the class differences in New York City. You see the contrast between Elliot’s crappy tenement apartment and rich people’s apartments like Elliot’s wealthy gay boss.

Portia Doubleday is cast perfectly as Angela Moss, Elliot’s long-time friend. She looks just like an upper-class girl from an Ivy League University. (It’s slightly unrealistic that they would be friends who grew up in the same neighborhood because Elliot seems to come from a lower-class family, but I guess that the writers can be given some poetic license.)

I picked up early on that the fictional corporation “E-Corp” is only called “Evil Corp” in scenes with Elliot. It’s something that Elliot is imagining.

After watching all ten episodes, I conclude that the name for the series, Mr. Robot, is perfect and captures the essence of the story. However, the name is very confusing for people who haven’t seen the series, because the series has nothing to do with robots and is not science fiction; it takes place in present-day New York except that the world’s biggest and post powerful corporation, E-Corp, is fictional.

Bruno Mars – The Lazy Song

If this video, showing people dressed in monkey masks being lazy, had been produced by a white musician, it would be deemed massively racist: because of stereotypes about blacks being lazy and the racist legacy of blacks being compared to monkeys. But because Bruno Mars is not white, he is able to pull this off without scandal.

Jews against immigration

The Jewish Community organisation (IKG) in Austria has called for a limit on the number of refugees entering the country, warning of the risk of growing anti-Semitism as many of the migrants are from Middle Eastern countries.

“The question is how many refugees can a country accept. We have reached the end of our capacities,” IKG president Oskar Deutsch told journalists in Vienna on Monday.

“Some of these so-called refugees will have grown up thinking anti-Semitism is normal,” he said. “It would be terrible if this were to happen in Austria.”

Austria has been a key country on the migrant trail and expects a record 95,000 applications for asylum this year and up to 130,000 in 2016, according to latest government figures.

Deutsch echoed comments made by the Central Council of Jews in Germany, which said it expected problems with integrating the mainly Muslim newcomers.

“Sooner or later we won’t have a choice but to set an upper limit,” the council’s president Josef Schuster told Die Welt daily.

“Many of the refugees are fleeing the terror of the Islamic State and want to live in peace and freedom, but at the same time they come from cultures where hatred of Jews and intolerance are an integral part.

Notice how Mr. Deutsch uses the term “so-called refugees,” thus doubting their status as legitimate refugees.

Hopefully, this puts to rest the assertion by anti-Semitic types that immigration is a secret plot by Jews to destroy the gentile whites. It’s gentile white leaders who are doing this, not the Jews.

Meghan Trainor – All About That Bass

What’s more fun than a curvaceous green-eyed blonde girl singing about how she’s proud to have a few extra pounds? Surrounded by the color pink?

Yeah my momma she told me don’t worry about your size
She said boys like a little more booty to hold at night

Strangely, this wonderfully enjoyable music video was condemned by certain anti-fun people for being anti-feminist because of those lines. They say that telling girls they should care about what boys thinkg about them, that’s anti-feminist.

I guess that means that “game” websites, which tell men how to change their behavior so women will be more attracted to them, those sites are anti-men. I suppose they are. The genuine true pro-men sites are the Men-Going-Their-Own-Way (MGTOW) websites.

* * *

It should be noted that Meghan Trainor grew up on the island of Nantucket,
previously mentioned for being the place where you are most likely to bump into the top-out-of-site when they are summering. Well worth a visit even if they only way you can afford to get there is in steerage aboard the slow ferry (which still has a much better class of passenger than the Staten Island Ferry).

* * *

In case you don’t get the lyrics, “bass” is used as a metaphor for a big booty, and “treble” is the opposite of bass.

Adele – Hello

A commenter recently asked for me to review another music video.

This one has already been viewed more than 450 million times even though it has only been on YouTube for a month. It’s nice that a song that’s more mature is popular, instead of some crappy gangsta rap. On the other hand, I really enjoy Katy Perry videos a lot more, and I confess that I also enjoyed the video by that Korean guy a lot more.

In the video, shown in artsy sepia-toned black and white, Adele reminisces about a boyfriend who she dumped in the past, but now feels guilty about it. Adele is a blue-eyed white girl and the ex-boyfriend is black. I think it would have been much better if the ex-boyfriend was Asian. Asian men could really use a boost to their self-esteem.

How jihadists get their courage

I’ve observed that Arabs make very cowardly soldiers. This explains why Israel, from its very inception as a state in 1948, has always been able to defeat numerically superior Arab armies.

When the United States invaded Iraq, instead of the “Mother of all Battles,” Saddam’s soldiers barely put up a fight.

When numerically smaller ISIS armies invaded Iraqi cities, the Iraqi troops abandoned their posts and ran away.

But what gives the jihadists the courage that Arab soldiers have traditionally lacked? I naively assumed it was their conviction that they were fighting for Allah and would be rewarded in Paradise for their Holy Jihad. But it turns out the that real answer sounds like something out of science-fiction. As explained in recent news stories, the jihadis are taking a drug in the amphetamine family, known in the Middle East as Captagon, which makes them fearless.

Two ISIS fighters caught in Turkey told the local newspaper Rudaw, “When we went into battle, we took the pills that made us euphoric.” Ali Daud, 23, told the newspaper: “It makes us feel big, strong, as if looking at the battle from above. You think the tanks are little birds that you can destroy with your sword. We took the drug only when we went into battle, for maximum effect.”

How to watch the original Star Wars

Fans have created an unauthorized edition of Star Wars that’s the original version seen in theaters in 1977. Search Google for the “despecialized” Star Wars. Technically, it violates copyright to download and watch it. But it’s the only way to see Han Solo shoot first, or see all of the action without the CGI crap added in the current commercially available versions.

In the vidcap above, Han Solo grips his blaster underneath the table, preparing to shoot first.

It’s also possible to see the original Song of the South movie that Disney has banned because it’s now considered racist (although at the time it was considered very progressive because it had black characters when Hollywood was all-white).

It’s considered racist because the black characters are shown as being happy, instead of angry and bitter at white people.

It’s actually a pretty boring movie.

The wealthy are getting older

Robert Frank the reporter (not to be confused with Robert Frank the economist from Cornell) explains that the wealthy are getting older:

A study by Edward Wolff, a wealth expert and economics professor at New York University, found that the median age of the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans increased to 63 in 2013 (the latest year available) from 58 in 1992.

People 65 to 74 accounted for almost a third of the wealthiest 1 percent in 2013 — up from 19 percent in 2001.

Reasons: young people are saddled with student debt, while older workers make more money than ever before. The highest incomes “are going mainly to executives, business owners, bankers, lawyers and other professionals who are more senior. … The median age of the top 1 percent of income earners has jumped to 53 in 2013 from 45 in 1992.”

The Force Awakens

View all trailers here.

This is Star Wars for the politically correct times we live in. In the original, fighting was for men. White men. Women were just cheeky princesses in need of rescue, or maternal figures like Luke Skywalker’s kindly aunt (who was mercilessly killed by Stormtroopers, demonstrating how evil they were). In this new movie, the two main characters who fight against the Empire are a hot babe (played by 23-year-old British actress Daisy Jazz Isobel Ridley) and a black guy.

The Stormtroopers have been humanized. In the original movie, you never saw who they were underneath their armor. The black guy is, apparently, a reformed Stormtrooper. This change is actually a good change; it gives the movie more nuance instead of being just a simplistic good guys/bad guys setup where you feel no remorse for the tens of thousands of Imperial military personnel killed when Luke Skywalker blew up the Death Star. (Of course the Death Star did blow up the planet Alderon, and someone deserved to die for that [unless you are a leftist-liberal type who doesn’t believe in capital punishment], but the vast majority of personnel aboard the Death Star were just conscripted shmucks with no say in that decision.)

I have a theory that the black guy is actually Luke Skwyalker’s son. But wait, how does a white guy have a black son? Well, this will just each us about how race is not a biological reality, just a social construct. Does that mean that the hot babe could be Chewbacca’s daughter? OK, let’s not get crazy here.

* * *

Some commenters are saying they will refuse to see it because it’s too politically correct. I disagree with that philosophy because it would mean denying yourself ALL modern entertainment media. You’d have to restrict yourself to old movies and reading old books. And even the 1939 original Buck Rogers mini-movie had a female pilot (although with the conservative message that the future became dystopian because the people of the 20th century were too soft on “lawlessness,” allowing the criminals to take over).

NBC/SurveyMonkey poll!

Released yesterday. Like other polls, shows that Trump has pulled ahead of Carson, 28% to 18%. Unlike other polls, shows that Cruz has moved up to 18% to tie with Carson for second place.

I think it’s significant that Trump’s support with women increased from 22 to 27% since the previous NBC/SurveyMonkey poll. In a match between Trump and Cruz, women prefer Trump.

Party elites are still counting on Rubio to beat back Trump. Will they turn to Cruz if he stays ahead of Rubio? They prefer Rubio to Cruz, but prefer anyone to Trump.
