Who could have predicted this jihadist attack?

The answer is Sebastian Gorka, a guy who appears sometimes as a terrorism expert on Fox News, but no other news organization will interview him because he is considered to be politically incorrect or something like that.

In November he released a comprehensive report on the ISIS threat, and he wrote:

The United States can expect difficult times ahead, with more domestic attacks or attempted attacks likely. Based on the evidence available, the number of ISIS supporters in the United States measures in the thousands, rather than hundreds. Whether ISIS will launch an attack on the scale of the Paris attack is unknown, but it is clear that the United States is a primary target for ISIS and that ISIS has the necessary supporters in place and the financial means to carry out such an attack. The challenges of screening incoming refugees may further exacerbate the problem.

Because the liberals who are running things have learned no lesson from this attack, it’s inevitable that there will be more.

  1. I just listened to a podcast interview of Gorka with Frank Gaffney (Gaffney hosts a daily one-hour radio show based out of Washington DC called Secure Freedom Radio that is available on iTunes). Gaffney is way too “gung-ho” with American military for my taste but I have to admit that his radio show is really gripping.

The interview with Gorka was very interesting and he is extremely worried about ISIS and other other Islamic terrorist organizations in the US. As much as we complain about the American government and alot of the stupid things that it does, they really have prevented hundreds, if not thousands of terrorist attacks, most of which we will never hear about.

  2. The only way to stop this is to destroy ISIS.

It is just like Afghanistan was – a breeding ground for jihadist ideology, training of terrorist and the incubator for terrorist plots against society. It is an overarching ideology, a uniting of the various ethnicities in the region under a universal banner of Allah.

Returning to the Middle East is madness but bombing does nothing. A guy can produce high quality videos and write blogs from anywhere in the world.

Only by occupying their territory can ISIS be dismantled and their ideology be stamped out.

    • Yes, if you want to stop Muslim terrorism, occupying their lands is the way to go.

    • ISIS is not a cause but a symptom of Islamic tendency to adopt radical theology ans violent tactics. Eliminating ISIS will create a vacuum for another group. ISIS itself is filling a vacuum left by al-Qaeda.

The solution is to stop interfering in the Middle East and stop letting Muslims immigrate to the US.

    • You guys have a point. I just read about the French and English bombing ISIS and I got all fired up.

I do not want the US back there. It is just a nightmare.

  3. The only mystery is what took so damn long. Jihadis have been mad for a long time and America has had open borders. There are tons of suicide attackers in Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan. Why wouldn’t they be able to get a few in the West or radicalize people over here?

This will get worse indefinitely. Our only hope is a leader who will blast through PC and make the connection between terrorism and immigration. That’s not Bush or Rubio.

  4. After 9/11 I wondered what is there to stop Islamists from simply walking into public spaces and killing random people. The explanation at that time was that terrorist groups wanted to pull of spectacular attacks to change public opinion policy; they’re not interested in low-grade violence.

However with Boston marathon, Paris and now San Bernardino it looks low-grade Islamic terrorism is going to be a part of Western life. The Left will not modify its stance. They will double down.

In India where low-grade Islamist terrorism is a daily occurrence, the government simply classifies terrorist acts as ordinary crime (murder, vandalism, etc). Expect the American Left to adopt this tactic.

  5. He is hardly the only person who predicted that ISIS would motivate young people to perform terrorist attacks in the USA. I scanned through his report and he covered most of he basics. The only big issue I did not find discussed was the role of Saudi Arabia and Wahhabism.

Abd al-Wahhab was a 18th century Islamic preacher in what is today Saudi Arabia. He studied the 14th century scholar Ibn Taymiyyah and decided that the rulers of the Ottoman Empire and self proclaimed leaders of Islam were in fact un-Islamic. This got him kicked out of Mecca and he wandered between desert tribes until he met Ibn Saud in 1741. (Ibn Saud I think is literally the head of the house of Saud, more of a title than a name. Many different heads of the tribe have used this title.) Ibn Saud was the head of one Bedouin tribes. Ibn Saud and Abd al-Wahhab created a new strain of Islam which was the perfect religion for the bandit life style of the Bedouin tribes. Abd al-Wahhab res-erected the idea of jihad against infidels, but expanded the definition of “infidel” to be anyone, including other Muslims, who did not follow the strict Wahabist teaching. He proclaimed jihad as the obligation of all true believers.

This allowed Ibn Saud to declare the residents of whatever town he want raid to be infidels. Abd al-Wahhab then taught under the banner of jihad that Ibn Saud could kill all the men in the village that would not convert to Wahhabism and join the jihad. Women and children were taken as slaves and other property could be looted. This is exactly what Ibn Saud wanted to do anyway and Abd al-Wahhab gave him a powerful religious justification.

By 1790 Ibn Saud controlled most of what is now Saud Arabia. In 1801 he raid Karbala in Iraq and massacred thousands of Shiite Muslims. In 1803 he took control of Mecca and the Wahabist destroyed all the temples and shrines except for the Grand Mosque. This was the so called first Saudi Kingdom. The Ottoman had quite enough of Ibn Saud and sent the Egyptian army to deal with him. By 1818 the Egyptian army had wiped out the first Saudi Kingdom and driven the remaining Wahhabist into the desert with the Bedouins.

The Wahhabist remained quiet until World War I. Lawrence of Arabia recruited the current head of the house of Saud, Abdulaziz, also known as Ibn Saud, to organize Bedouin resistance fighters to attack the Ottoman troops. Some of the Bedouin fighters were militias organized by the Wahhabist. At the end of WW I the British gave the Abdulaziz control of Saud Arabia. Some of the Wahhabist were not satisfied with that and started raiding into Iraq. Other Wahhabist were loyal to King Abdulaziz. Oil was discovered and King Abdulaziz recognized that he would be wealthy if he could hold control of Saud Arabia. Abdulaziz negotiated a deal with the Wahhabist that were loyal to him. The deal gave the Wahhabist control of Mecca and a share of the oil wealth so they could spread Wahhabism thought out the Islamic world. The deal required the Wahhabist to support King Abdulaziz as the legitimate ruler and very importantly to keep Mecca open to all Muslims regardless of their branch. (At the time there was fear in the Islamic world that the Wahhabist would close Mecca to all Muslims except Wahhabist, so this was a significant concession.) Using military hardware from the British, Abdulaziz wiped out the Wahhabist militias that would not support the deal.

The result of this deal has been that Wahhabism, a branch of Islam originally crafted to appeal to marauding bandits, has become one of the most influential branches of Islam.

  6. I don’t understand, if inflamed crowds are chanting ‘Death to Americs’ , if terror against America is preached in mosques, if Islamic preachers all over the world threaten America, what is there to predict? They are saying openly what they will do, you have to be stupid not to listen and take them at their word.
