Brutal mugging in Crown Heights
Since Crown Heights came up in the comments…
The video above is a mugging that happened October 2014 on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights. Franklin Avenue, for those not familiar with Crown Heights, is the main commercial street in the heart of supposedly gentrifying Crown Heights, where there are various shops and restaurants recently opened that cater to hipsters and SWPLs. The muggers were stupid enough to do their act right in front of a surveillance camera (set up by the owner of a bodega) so they were caught on tape and later arrested.
The 21-year-old girl who was mugged is actually Hispanic, but she seems like a white-mestizo Hispanic and not a black-mulatto Hispanic. I am sure that the three blacks who mugged her assumed she was one of those white girls gentrifying the neighborhood. And in fact, she recently moved to Crown Heights from Georgia, so she’s not a local girl from the ghetto. She told the news reporters that she moved here to become a model, and don’t know if there’s any realistic chance of that happening, but the idea of moving to New York City with the dream of a self-actualizing career is a very SWPL thing to do [although as rivelino points out, true SWPLs would dream of working in the arts, the media or philanthropy; aspiring to me a model is prole].
