[David] Axelrod [the chief strategist for Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns and a CNN contributor] said of Trump. “He’s the voice for alienated, non-college-educated voters who feel they have been fundamentally screwed.”

Doesn’t Axelrod know that “screwed” is sexual-based slang which means the person just received sexual intercourse in a bad way?

Why is it OK for Axelrod to say “screwed” but not OK for Trump to say “schlonged?”

  1. OT: He plagiarized, fabricated a quote and covered a game he didn’t see. All while working at one of America’s 25 biggest newspapers.

But NO known job consequences or disciplinary action – another example of the corrupting influence of diversity.

  2. I guess because he saw this little gem from 2000 (with Norm MacDonald, Sherman Hemsley, Elaine Stritch, and Danny DeVito):

  3. That he’s the voice of the non-college educated who believe they’ve been screwed is correct. Doesn’t mean his popularity is limited to those folks. A distinction that matters.

Funny, I am a ivy-league-educated federal bureaucrat. Go Trump!

    December 28, 2015 at 11:06 am

    • LOL, “a” ivy-league-educated… unintentional trolling…

  5. Oh, Dear. Lord.

It’s not even a big deal. But just admit that he misspoke, or it will become a big deal.

  6. Lion, I’m servicing a cooling tower and am dying of boredom. Post something interesting before I do something really bad.

  7. The left is so fucking condescending. Plenty of college grads are voting for Trump. And those grads are just as alienated and feel just as screwed.

    December 28, 2015 at 11:57 am

  8. You may know this already, but the now completely innocuous, and in fact decidedly old fashioned expression “snafu” comes a common saying among soldiers in WW II: “Situation Normal, All F*#ked Up.” So yes, these things do change over time.

    • The thing with “snafu” and “fubar”, though, is that they were made somewhat innocent for post-WWII kids be changing the FU parts to “fouled up”. That’s how they were explained to me and it wasn’t until my teenage years that I realized what the real phrases must have been.

  9. The Left always tries to stereotype the supporters of nationalist candidates as being knuckle dragging rubes. They did it to Pat Buchanan and now they do it to Trump. They do the same thing in Europe to candidates like LePen. Stereotyping all of Trump’s supporters as poor, non-college graduates is ridiculous. I know many middle class people that are voting for Trump and I know a fair amount of rich people that are voting for Trump.

    December 28, 2015 at 1:44 pm

    • The SWPLs of Europe (at least around here) are already deriding Trump for being so stupid. It’s like there’s a switch to flip somewhere in a control room, or some flyer of talking points I never got. The new Trump = fascist media angle hasn’t really caught on yet, but the propaganda machine is somewhat impressive even so.

  10. At some point we should acknowledge that Trump is being intentionally provocative and offensive. There is no question in my mind that “schlonged” trumps “screwed” in terms of offensiveness. In my personal experience the former word is only ever used when referring to the male reproductive organ, and the latter is used so often that the sexual connotation is often lost entirely.

Rather than complaining that the mainstream media is treating Trump unfairly, Trump supporters should probably thank the MSM for behaving exactly as Trump wants them to. Trump probably handpicked the word because it was offensive, and he probably enjoys the rekindled debate over whether he went to far this time.

    • “There is no question in my mind that “schlonged” trumps “screwed” in terms of offensiveness.”

Considering that “schlonged” is a word that 98% of Americans have never even heard of, and everyone knows what “screwed” means, I don’t see how you can possibly think that.

      • Maybe I am just among the enlightened few, but I would assume that more than 2% of America has seen Beavis and Butthead. I know your statistics are exaggerated, but Mike Judge threw “schlong” around throughout the 90’s. When Trump said that, I know I didn’t scratch my head and search google for a definition.

      • Trump was too busy making money to spend time watching cartoons.

  11. “Why is it OK for Axelrod to say “screwed” but not OK for Trump to say “schlonged?”

You’re toying with us, Lion. Axelrod is a leading lib-Dem, so the MSM lets him get away with saying whatever he wants. Of course, Republicans are held to a different standard. I think the strategy here, as usual, is to reassure liberals that they are morally and intellectually superior to the ignorant jerks who support candidates of whom they don’t approve.

      • Thank you. If you like your MSM bias straight and not watered down (“screwed vs. schlonged”), try this piece by the LA Times’s ultraliberal writer David Horsey, which calls Trump a fascist, accompanied by a cartoon portraying his supporters as storm troopers, complete with armbands and banners. We can expect lots more of this as the political season progresses. Really, you can’t make this stuff up.

  12. Maybe he means it in the sense of getting the screws put to them.

    December 28, 2015 at 2:45 pm

  13. Considering his position of H-1B visas Trump should also be the candidate of college educated voters who have been screwed!

Well, really it should be Bernie Sanders, but it’s too late for that.

  14. Trump is gonna have a new friend from Rahm. Just you wait. Barry is gonna try and throw him to the wolves. YMMV, FWIW, SOSF…

    December 28, 2015 at 7:32 pm

  15. It’s already been said: Axelrod’s on the same side as the media, so of course he gets away with stuff.

Seriously, I bet nobody’s even heard ‘schlonged’ until now, outside of the Northeast.

I am really surprised Trump’s been allowed to get as far as he has. Unless you count the conspiracy theories that he’s running on the Clintons’ behalf to destroy the GOP…

    December 28, 2015 at 9:55 pm

    • “I am really surprised Trump’s been allowed to get as far as he has. ”

Democracy really is real. The candidate that the elites what is not the candidate who will always be elected.

The internet enables Trump. He can use Twitter to talk directly to his followers, and Drudge and Breitbart are also in his corner.

  16. “Why is it OK for Axelrod to say “screwed” but not OK for Trump to say “schlonged?””

Because Axelrod was speaking of a large group of people being screwed by impersonal historical forces so the sexual connotation is lost. If he had said in reference to something or other that Obama had screwed Clinton and no one had noticed (which seems unlikely to me but who knows) you would have a better case.
