Remember that I predicted that something like this could happen before the debate. I wrote:

I think there’s a strong possibility that he could be totally destroyed in tonight’s debate. Rubio just isn’t that smart, and he relies on memorized sound bites and anecdotes to get him through debates and interviews. If he gets thrown into a position where he can’t fall back on his sound bites, we may see a complete collapse.

So now, does someone else (such as BushChristieKasich) take over the GOPe mantle, or does a diminished Rubio just continue on, but too weakened to ever have a chance of beating Trump?

  1. You’ve been wrong on some predictions lately, but you hit that one out of the park.

  2. Lol. I can just picture the billionaire who spent years backing him and spending money on him going too bed last night saying “It’s ok. It wasn’t that bad. We can recover.”

And then waking up this morning and saying “Fuck!”.

    • With a horse head in the bed…

      February 7, 2016 at 10:23 am

      • And then they enter the horse head in the race instead and it gives a better performance than Rubio in the next debate.

  3. We’re one primary in. I wouldn’t be too surprised if Cruz does better in the Southern states with all the evangelicals, or if the establishment finds someone else to nominate as their Trump alternative.

  4. worst debate performance ever? I think so.

But that Rubio is an idiot is nothing new. He is still the best establishment candidate and the only establishment candidate who will be viable after NH. Even if Kasich were to win NH outright, and I’m confident he won’t even come in 2nd, he would never be able to compete in the other states.

If you want to stop Trump, Rubio is the only option. That was true before the debate and it remains true today.

For that reason, I don’t think the debate will hurt him. Rubio 35, Trump 27.

    • The guys at Conservative Treehouse disagree with you. Note: they are complete Trump fanatics, and haters of GOPe. I believe they were the ones who popularized the latter term.

They think that Christie’s destruction of Rubio was actually the Establishment going after a threat. Rubio is not GOPe, in their estimation. He is a whippersnapper who bolted out of the gate to the detriment of their real choice: Jeb. I was a little surprised by that, but I think it’s true. Just because he has billionaire backers doesn’t mean he’s the choice of GOPe. Adelson is *not* GOPe. I think they despise him, in fact.

Why Rubio, why now? He did well in Iowa, and he’s a dumbass, so he had to go. Christie is a complete tool of GOPe, and he’s a former prosecutor. He’s been their hatchet man before.

GOPe would like Kasich, since Jeb is toast. GOPe will go after Trump when all the jokers have been cleared from the field.

I’m not sure I buy their theory but it’s interesting.

  5. Adelson keeps saying that he’s divided between Rubio and Cruz:

I think these clueless GOPers will just keep trying to throw these mangey mutts into the fighting pen, hoping for Trump to slip up and make an exploitable gaffe. And if Trump doesn’t, only make a decision of who to (desperately) back at the last second.

    • Conservative Treehouse has been writing about this for months. GOPe had a calculated plan, well before Trump. Their boy was Jeb. They knew he was unpalatable to most Repubs, so throw a bunch of single state single issue guys (and one Hillary clone) into the mix, split the vote, and have Jeb take the winner take alls. Then do what Republicans do: fall in line and stand by their man. It’s worked before, why not now.

They just didn’t count on Trump. Cruz is also a wild card, and to them, Rubio is a puppy who had to be put down. The latter two were also not part of the plan.

  8. Your prediction was brilliant, but what is the alternative? Donald Trump who has the vocabulary of a kid in an elementary school?

  9. It reeks of confirmation bias to cite a bunch of left wing news sources the moment they agree with you, Lion. Those are the exact same outlets that would’ve been full of “Trump can’t win, Trump on the brink of collapse” headlines just a few weeks ago. The left-wing press has a narrative to destroy any Republican with perceived momentum.

    February 7, 2016 at 11:31 am

    • Even conservatives from Fox have been piling on. Rubio isn’t teflon like Trump, he will be destroyed.

  11. LOL You “wrotes”?

BTW, the link to your prediction is faulty.
