Kasich in second as predicted by The Lion!

Kasich has now been declared the winner for second place. Who could have predicted that?

Before the debate on Saturday, I wrote:

I think there’s a strong possibility that he could be totally destroyed in tonight’s debate. Rubio just isn’t that smart, and he relies on memorized sound bites and anecdotes to get him through debates and interviews. If he gets thrown into a position where he can’t fall back on his sound bites, we may see a complete collapse.

And who will benefit if that happens? We may be surprised to see John Kasich win second place in New Hampshire. Well some people will be surprised, but I won’t because I’m predicting the possibility.

Why do I think Kasich and not Bush or Christie will benefit from Rubio’s collapse? Because everyone who is not a Republican insider doesn’t want another president Bush, and because Jeb’s humiliating collapse in the polls from the front-runner to a guy who got 3% in Iowa makes him look like a loser. No one wants to vote for a loser.

Not Christie because Christie appeals to proles, and Trump has won the hearts and minds of the proles.

Kasich, on the other hand, has been positioning himself as the only adult in a room full of children. Whereas Bush’s low showing in the polls brands him a loser, Kasich’s equivalent showing makes him a winner because a few months ago he was this nobody that no one even considered as having a realistic chance of winning a single primary anywhere.

Why doesn’t some campaign hire me, given my superior predicting skills compared to the mainstream?

  1. Indeed Lion, that was very prescient. And unlike me, you didn’t freak out and predict he would win. You kept it together. Bravo!

Kasich came in a strong 2nd, but I don’t know if this is repeatable. I saw something on the news tonight about him. He has apparently nearly lived in NH for a year and spent a lot of resources on it.

Meanwhile, what about Bernie annihilating Hillary? That’s pretty noteworthy. I was feeling somewhat positively towards him until I heard that he will be meeting with Al Sharpton, and then I came back to reality. He is a Democrat, and must cut deals with monsters like Sharpton.

    • He is a Democrat, and must cut deals with monsters like Sharpton.

That’s because in South Carolina Democrat = black.

Even Jesse Jackson won the South Carolina once (in 1988). Whoever gets the huge endorsement from Alvin Greene will probably win.

    • There are only 4 states where white people are a majority of Democrat voters.

Three of the 4 are Iowa, New Hampshire, and Bernie’s Vermont. It is going to get really depressing really fast for Bernie, who appeals to the white hipster faction of Democrats.

    • Bill Clinton – who looks really, really sick – has got the black preachers bribed good. It’s all downhill for Sanders after tonight.

      • Maybe. Bernie’s shtick (like Trump’s) is that he can attract new voters. There’s lots of white millennials who might be attracted to a Bernie ticket.

  2. Why work that hard when you can use your skills to make $ in the prediction markets?

    February 9, 2016 at 10:07 pm

  3. I listened to NPR for about 45 seconds before I turned it off. They are trying to discount Trump’s win. Three out of four NH Republicans didn’t vote for him.

    • It’s true though. The electoral system is bizarre. People “win” despite the overwhelming majority not wanting them.

  5. Lol. Loads of recent polls had him coming in second, it’s just that the mainstream didn’t feel like commenting on it because why bother. Anyone really paying attention to the polls could’ve called Kaisich in second.

If you had called rubio outperforming iowa, now THAT would’ve been impressive.

  6. As I said in the other thread, Kasich is at least sincere about what he says. He was willing to state details of his amnesty plan, with no apologies or excuses, on the stage Saturday night.

And if he can deliver Ohio, he is “electable.”

    February 9, 2016 at 10:29 pm

    • None of that helped Romney much.

      February 9, 2016 at 11:58 pm

    • Kasich isn’t the only one who is sincere on amnesty. All of the establishment candidates are pretty clear that they are going to legalize millions of illegals and open up the country to even more legal immigrants. Only Rubio is trying to be cagey on that and he’s failing spectacularly at that slight of hand.

But I’m not sure Kasich is an automatic draw to win Ohio. Neither Jeb! or Rubio is polling very high in Florida and it’s unlikely they could help win Florida for the Republicans.

  8. Speaking of Lion’s clairvoyance, isn’t that robotics stock up quite a bit today compared to when he advised us all to buy it?

    February 9, 2016 at 11:42 pm

    • Unfortunately, I’m better at predicting politics than predicting stocks.

      • If you really trust your predictions you can bet on them exactly like on stocks, and it is easier than being a campaign advisor.

  9. Women 18-29 80/20 sanders/clinton !! Although once sanders is gone presumably they will back her.
Kasich is the guy democrats would choose as Republican candidate but they would never vote for him. The Republican Party is fucked, after the election loss immigration restriction will be even more toxic than it is now.

  10. Good call.

    February 10, 2016 at 7:44 am

  11. On the strength of your statement the other day regarding Mr Kasich and Mr Rubio I backed Mr Kasich at 120 to 1. He is now down to 34 to 1 after his success last night. Well done and thankyou..
