New Monmouth University Texas poll good news for Cruz

I previously blogged or tweeted about post-South Carolina primary Texas polls which show Trump tied with Cruz.

Unfortunately for those hoping that Trump will win Texas, this new Monmouth University Texas poll, with all interviews conducted after the South Carolina primary, and some even conducted after Nevada, show Cruz beating Trump by huge margin of 38% to 23%, with Rubio a very close third at 21%.

This was a live interview poll, the type on which Trump does poorly, but still that’s a huge lead for Cruz. It’s looking likely that Texas will be the only state that Trump loses on Super Tuesday.

However, it may very well be that Texas is the only state besides Iowa that Trump will lose on his path to becoming the nominee.

  1. Texas has proportional apportioning of delegates, so it doesn’t really matter much if Trump wins 36-32 or loses 36-32. As long as Trump gets to 20%, he’ll be in the pool of candidates who split the delegates.

  2. There are 3 states that stand out to me as places where Trump simply does not play:
    Iowa: filled with stupid Christians
    Texas: filled with stupid TrueCons
    Utah: filled with stupid Mormons

It goes without saying that all three states must have their right to vote in the primaries rescinded. Trump will win the rest of the states though. It actually is too his credit that he is losing the utter morons of IA, TX and UT.

    • Texas: stupid people, period. I had the misfortune of knowing a Texas Republican some years ago who was beyond clueless about the illegal problem. All she & her stupid family cared about was how cheap they worked.

      February 25, 2016 at 2:13 pm

      • How stupid are Texas republicans? They still fall for Cruz’s schtick, some rich lawyer from Harvard whose wife works for Goldman Sachs pretends to be a folsky flannel-wearing evangelical. They buy it whenever anyone tries it.

      • Losing one’s cool in response to ignorant internet comments is probably the definition of stupid, but whatever. If it weren’t for stupid Texas “truecons” the progressives would’ve already dragged the rest of you much further into utopian socialist unicorn land. Maybe we could stop trying to save you and just go our own way. Perhaps you’d all like to compare SAT scores with this random 7th generation stupid Texas evangelical truecon. So you once knew a Texas Republican who was clueless about the illegal problem and you think that represents the feeling on the street? Really? Sure Texas, like any other state, has a problem with its GOP establishment (perhaps even more so because we are afflicted by the Bushies) there is no bigger issue among rank and file Texas conservatives than illegal immigration. The GOP is one misstep away from losing its hold on Texas conservatives. At this point there is no reason to believe that Trump will be stricter on illegal immigration than Cruz. After illegal immigration, what can we expect from Trump? Many think the courts are the next most important issue. What kind of judges will he appoint? Judges who will continue to allow federal power to grow an individual liberty to wither? Who the hell knows? What has he said on the issue? With Cruz we have at least an idea of what he believes, Trump is at best cypher. And you all claim that Texans are the stupid ones. Really?

    • Mormons aren’t stupid. They’re also white. A model minority!

      February 25, 2016 at 5:02 pm

    • Cruz would not be leading Trump in Texas if he were not a native son.

      February 25, 2016 at 6:07 pm

      • But it so happens that he is a native son.

  3. OT: This link is worth checking out:

Read the whole thing and see what the problem is.

    • Seriously, Lion, you should do an article on this.

  4. My SWPL friends on Facebook just keep repeating that “open letter” about Donald Trump from Huffington Post:

    Just standard liberal screech.

    • Liberals believe that the people who disagree with them are evil.

      • And also stupid and crazy.

But that’s OK, because I think they are stupid, crazy, and evil, too.

        February 25, 2016 at 5:03 pm

      • Evil, stupid, or crazy — or some combination of the three.

        February 25, 2016 at 6:08 pm

    • Me too.

      February 25, 2016 at 4:08 pm

    • I still think that it raises an important issue. If normal people still think that all racism is bad, even scientific racism, then I don’t see how we’re going to change the culture.

      February 25, 2016 at 5:14 pm

      • The issue is that the definition of “racism” has expanded beyond any rational limits to the term. For instance, it’s now called “racism” that Serena Williams has half the endorsement $$ of Maria Sharapova, and it’s fashionable for the MSM to harp on this but without taking blacks to task for not watching/playing tennis or buying any of the goods that Serena endorses herself.

  5. Might be good if Cruz wins in Texas – will keep ratface in the race until the end. Cruz will never win the primary, just takes votes from Rubio.

  6. Cruz and his PACs are spending a fortune on media buys. I live in Texas and every single radio commercial break has a Cruz ad. Also another thing is developing, Christian talk radio, which is huge down here, has developed the view that Trump is “of the devil” and that if American rejects a Godly Christian man like Ted Cruz we need to be punished by a Hillary presidency, God will use this godly punishment to give America a chance to elect a true Christian next time around. Well, that’s my summation of the narrative, but on Christian radio it is non-stop Trump bashing.
We’ll see how this develops in a Hillary – Trump campaign.

I follow Herman Cain on facebook and there’s a huge contingent of Cruz devotees there. They are truly terrified and hysterically throwing out similar dumb points and memes attacking Trump, and usually in a pathetic, sissified way more reminiscent of the Salon or Mother Jones crowd.. These people are truly deluded if they came into this election cycle thinking that it was Cruz’ time, he’s not nationally electable in the least. For his own part Herman has stayed out of it and allows any debate on his page, I think he’s decided to endorse whoever wins the nomination. (FWIW)

  7. Somewhat on topic. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Mike Huckabee’s daughter, has just been hired as a senior advisor to the Trump campaign. Apparently, she things Trump will appoint conservatives to SCOTUS. I hear that in 2008 she also believed that Sarah Palin raised a good Christian family.

  8. The NY Times, CBS News and other media outlets are reporting that Trump’s businesses have been relying on worker visa programs to hire foreign workers, also known as criminals and rapists. This is going to hit Trump right in the labonza.

    • Duh, of course his hotels use foreign workers, just like every other hotel.

They hypocrisy lies with conservatives who hate hate hate Warren Buffett for saying that taxes should be raise on the rich while taking advantage of the same tax breaks that every other rich person takes advantage of, but then don’t hate Trump for the same sort of “hypocrisy” (which I consistently don’t believe is hypocrisy).

    • If those workers are actually on Visas he can easily shift to clarify that he opposes only illegal immigration, along with a temporary shut down on immigrants from dangerous countries, as already identified by the TSA, Pentagon, etc. in their restricted parties and terrorism watch lists.

This will roll off his back just like everything else.

      February 25, 2016 at 6:08 pm

    • Old news. Who cares. As a business man Trump played by the rules. Now he’s getting in the game to make the rules.

  9. If the exit polls can be believed, Trump did well among evangelical voters in the recent primaries.

Here are the results from Nevada:
