Puerto Rico victory for Rubio

As predicted, Rubio won Puerto Rico, and it was a massive victory indeed. Although the vote isn’t completely counted, Rubio has more than 70% of the vote. This proves the truth of the logic that Puerto Ricans would prefer to vote for a guy who also has brown skin and literally speaks their language.

There will be two takeaways for the bigger picture.

1. Everyone will say that Puerto Rico says nothing about Rubio’s chances in any other primary, because of Puerto Rico’s very unique demographics. Rubio gains no momentum here.

2. The GOPe are [in ectasy] imagining the massive victory Rubio would have if he won the nomination, because 70% of the Hispanics on the mainland would vote for him. (I am not saying that scenario has the slightest bit of merit, I am just speculating, pretty accurately I think, as to what the GOPe is thinking about right now.)

  1. “Creamin in their pants”? Ughhh, so gross, I thought better of you Lion than to use such crude language😦

  3. You might be right about GOPe – they really are stupid – but this win is actually the final nail in Rubio’s coffin. It’s the booby prize that proves he has no appeal to average white voters.

Sanders, OTOH, has appeal to white voters. WaPo did a regression analysis of his wins. Unfortunately I lost the link. I looked for it and couldn’t find it. Perhaps the findings were too incendiary…he found a strong correlation between % of black voters and a Clinton win. The higher the %age, the bigger her win. Not surprising but the strength of the correlation was shocking.

  4. “This proves the truth of the logic that Puerto Ricans would prefer to vote for a guy who also has brown skin and literally speaks their language.”

Shite, they’d all vote for for my father, that old Brooklyn guido. At the very least, he’d run the island! We’d live there like royalty. An iron hand in a velvet glove and all that. We’d be like Sicilian nobility but better, I tell ya! We’d make those Normans look weak and Roger the II look like a softy. Puerto Rico would really be a rich port. Like Germany on an island: clean, orderly and hard working and no muzzies (may Merkel be cursed). But alas, it is not to be…A shame, a shame…(sniffle). Scusi, I hava something in my auge…

    March 6, 2016 at 6:36 pm

    • A person of Borinquen and a Guido? You must be like Ronnie Ortiz from the Joisey Shore.

      But I doubt it!

      March 7, 2016 at 5:26 pm

  5. Rubio’s skin tone is actually very white. There are other markers which identify him as “one of us” to (mostly darker skinned) Puerto Ricans. And their identity vote — political positions are near-meaningless — then gives Rubio his seventy per cent.

    March 6, 2016 at 6:51 pm

    • Judging from the pictures on the Internet, Rubio doesn’t look the least “Hispanic”. I would guess that if his genome were sequenced he would turn out to have verry little Amerindian or African ancestry.

  6. Territorial primaries always support the central party establishment candidate. If they’d been behind Kasich, he’d have won. It has nothing to do with being Cuban or speaking Spanish. It’s the same with Democrats and Republicans. Party insiders can cut off benefits and punish party leaders in territories for dissenting because they have no power to defend themselves and they therefore pay strict fealty to Washington machines.

    March 6, 2016 at 7:03 pm

  7. G.O.P. is affiliated with one of the local parties in Puerto Rico, right? That probably makes the whole dynamic a little different there, because the local party is largely independent of the national party so it can attract a different crowd, but the local Puerto Rican politicians can still encourage some of their supporters to vote in the Republican primary.

    • LOL, Kasich came in after “other.” I consider that a compliment to Kasich.

BTW, it seems that the real loser of the last debate was Rubio. He sort of made Trump look classy and sympathetic by comparison. No mean feat.

As you know it doesn’t get any classier than Trump.

  9. I think most of the elected officials in Puerto Rico are Democrats or from parties closely aligned with the Democrats. Certainly the governor is. So this is 70% of those voting in the Republican primary. It is not clear that Rubio could carry Puerto Rico in the November election, if Puerto Rico got to vote for president, which it does not.

    March 6, 2016 at 7:22 pm

  10. “The GOPe are [in ectasy] imagining the massive victory Rubio would have if he won the nomination, because 70% of the Hispanics on the mainland would vote for him.”

That’s the whole GOP plan right there. Grovel for Hispanic votes and assume the anti-abortion crowd can’t leave, and the two will make an unbeatable coalition for the new millennium!

George Will, please call your office. Time for you to retire.

  12. Lion, This is OT but I think important. Did you see in the NY Times the story about Obama hanging around Washington because (cough cough) he doesn’t want to interrupt the younger daughter’s schooling. This is important. He’s not going anywhere. Presidents are supposed to recede gracefully into eminence grise status. Obama is going to stay in DC where he will continue to cause maximum havoc, with a compliant press. Whoever is president is going to have to deal with this. It almost makes me feel sorry for Hillary (almost).

This is very important in terms of who is the next president. Who would deal better with the Obama vampire?

Apart from that, invoking his daughter’s educational needs, as if a rich kid going from one private school to another is some kind of hardship, is pure Obama. He is a much more flagrant liar than Hillary. She is sly and at least a bit diplomatic in her manner. Obama is like Bill, but without the charm. Obama truly likes to wave his middle finger in your face and dare you to call him out, at which point he dog whistles racism. Will anything ever bring this man down?

    March 7, 2016 at 8:56 am

    • You are jumping to a lot of conclusions. Obama probably just wants his kid to stay in the same school because SWPLs believe in high-investment parenting, and as I’ve previously pointed out, the Obamas are the whitest presidential couple ever.

And whites like big liberal cities. There are really only four cities that whites like: New York, DC, San Francisco and Portland Oregon.

        March 7, 2016 at 5:27 pm

      • Btw, Lion – You and some of your readers might interested in applying to the affordable units currently offered by Stuyvesant Town.

$1K rent for a 1br is a steal. No need to relocate to the Greater Merry Prola Stan.

        March 7, 2016 at 5:41 pm

      • It is a steal, but I am screwed as far as qualifying because I either have too much income (last year’s income) or too little income (no job at all).

        Maybe Yakov can qualify.

Although expect 50,000 to 100,000 to apply, and there are only going to be 300 apartments per year available. So it’s a 1 in a 100 longshot.

        Lion of the Blogosphere

        March 7, 2016 at 6:20 pm

      • What irony, given the fact that Stuyvesant Town was originally “affordable housing” for the White Middle Class, which also kept out blacks!!!!!

      • There’s also swarms of obnoxious H1Bs from India in our financial sector.

        March 7, 2016 at 5:49 pm

      • Lion,

Please. I don’t want to sound rude but please. Do not take anything that happens with someone like Obama for granted.
        1. SWPLs believe in high investment parenting. Do you think there are not equivalent schools to Sidwell Friends in Chicago?
        2. The Obamas are NOT the whitest Presidential couple ever, stop it, you are hurting my high regard for you. Obama is a white guy with black genes. Michelle is as black as they come: physically and culturally.
        3. I don’t want to get into an argument about what constitutes high investment parenting, but as President Obama probably spent little time with his kids. That is a side point however. The real point is that he is making up a flimsy excuse to stay in DC and establish an alternative power base.

        March 7, 2016 at 5:57 pm

      • “Do you think there are not equivalent schools to Sidwell Friends in Chicago?

Sidwell Friends is one of the nation’s most prestigious private schools. No, there is no school in Chicago that good.

        March 7, 2016 at 6:21 pm

      • Yakov is paying $500, so he isn’t relocating to pay $1,000. Also, Yakov wants to live among his own people.

        March 7, 2016 at 6:31 pm

      • Wrong. Latin School of Chicago is just as prestigious.

Nancy Reagan went there by the way.

Give up, you just don’t want to admit that Obama ain’t going away. You can’t stand the thought of it. He’s never going away. He’s going to be shadow President for life.

        March 7, 2016 at 6:35 pm

      • Maybe he’ll move back to Kenya if Trump becomes President.

      • Tech oriented Austin is for those who cannot hack it in SF. Chicago would be the equivalent when it comes to NYC, in the fields of media and finance.

        March 8, 2016 at 3:17 pm

    • Quite interestingly, no SWProle city south of Canada ranks high in quality of life measures, when compared to Canadian and Western, non-Anglo-Prole Sphere poleis.

      March 7, 2016 at 5:31 pm

  13. Dem presidents NEVER go away gracefully like Repub “gentleman” losers do; they’re like vampires who stay in the melee. Bill’s still here; Obama will definitely be around, and Carter is STILL here.

    March 7, 2016 at 9:39 am

  14. Why do you say “GOPe” instead of “GOPE”? Why the lower-case? Is it because “GOPe” looks like “go pee”?

This election sure has been full of juvenile garbage.

    March 7, 2016 at 9:55 am

    • To separate GOP from “e” I guess.

      • That doesn’t make sense. The whole point of an acronym is that every letter stands for a single word. You don’t need to “separate” the word establishment from GOP any more than you’d have to write USa to separate “America” from “United States of.”

This strikes me as one of those obscene 4chan type things like “cuckservative” that have gone mainstream.

        March 7, 2016 at 11:09 pm

    • Grand Old Party is a title while “establishment” is a descriptor. Maybe that has something to do with it.

      March 7, 2016 at 10:10 am

      • I never thought of it but Ghoul has a good point, and I’m hereon in referring to the GOP Establishment as GOP-E, and not GOPe.

        @Ghoul, thank you!

@Richard – the whole phrase is a descriptor, GOP in this instance being a part of the whole.

However, optics count, and to make it easier on the eye, I will write it GOP-E and not GOPE, which looks like the initials of an evil trade lobbying org. It’s true that is what the GOP has become, but still.

“Cuck” on the other hand is an effective insult, and captures the essence of spinelessness and sliminess very well, so I use it. But it’s become overused. Some commenters on Sailer call Sanders a cuck. He isn’t. He’s a leftist.

        March 8, 2016 at 8:32 am

  15. I get how he won in Puerto Rico, but why do you keep insisting that Rubio is brown? Despite being “Hispanic”, his phenotype is quite European. I’ve met Greeks and southern Italians with darker skin tones than his.
