It’s dangerous to be a prole

Sarah Palin’s husband suffered serious injuries in a snowmobile accident, including eight fractured ribs and injuries to his collarbone and lungs.

  1. Yeah, but snowmobiling is awesome. It can be awesome to be prole.

    March 14, 2016 at 7:04 pm

    • Right. I’m sure Todd, who will be 100% fine, is enjoying all the attention he is getting in his hospital bed. His sexy wife is no doubt hurrying home to have very gentle sympathy sex with him.

Those poor proles must be so miserable. I mean look at how prole they are!

      March 15, 2016 at 12:58 am

  2. So who had more children, Sarah Palin’s husband or the Lion?

The future kinda has a way of belonging to whomever shows up…….

    March 14, 2016 at 7:06 pm

    • It’s Sarah Palin, so who knows?

At any rate, one thing’s for sure regardless: neither Palin’s husband nor the Lion will show up in the future. Having kids or even cloning yourself doesn’t mean you live forever.

      March 14, 2016 at 7:56 pm

      • Yeah, maybe. Problem is whites becoming a minority. With a muslim majority in Europe, we know how that’s going to turn out …

Probably easier to deport mudslime and blacks than to raise the birth rate of whites.

I wouldn’t go full antinatalist on the argument, though, since ANs are anti-intellectual mostly and a psychotic bunch (think muflax, Sister Y or inmendham).

      March 14, 2016 at 9:16 pm

      • This is true. I actually used to identify with the TruCons. I wasn’t one but my views lined up fairly well with them on the things that mattered to me. But the way they’ve behaved in this election has put me off them. They tried to brow-beat and smear people into going against Trump and for Cruz. I am now very hostile to them.

  4. I have noticed that many males seem to be driven to do dangerous things. Wealthy and poor there are reckless males and prudent ones

  5. Top tier men will often go hang gliding or climb everest or do other dangerous stuff,

    March 14, 2016 at 7:40 pm

  6. Yes, icky proles. Physical activity, childbearing, drinking, enjoying life. All so risky! Better to curl up and die.

    March 14, 2016 at 8:00 pm

    • Minor point, riding a motorized vehicle isn’t technically “physical activity”.

      March 15, 2016 at 2:45 am

      • It’s not like running a marathon but go ride a snowmobile for a couple days. Your arms and back will be sore.

  7. Just as likely to be injured skiing , white water rafting, mountain climbing, or flying your own airplane.

      March 15, 2016 at 12:39 am

  9. I don’t know about this “Prole” obsession of yours. In this context prole can mean manly or outdoors oriented.

There are men regardless of class who like speed and dangerous activities.

Formula One race car driving used to attract the sons of the rich and it was very dangerous.

I think you are using prole at times to diminish manly activity. I mean you like painting and photography which is fine but some men might find that gay and boring.

Irresponsible drunk driving and idiot behavior might be prole but aggressive and dangerous activity in this case by champion racer Todd Palin is just outdoors masculinity.

Trump says Palin’s husband is a “tough cookie” but “when you’re too tough, you break ribs once in a while.”

Outside of the US, auto racing is a hobby and sometimes career for the uber-wealthy.

        March 14, 2016 at 9:54 pm

      • Auto racing is very prole in the US and always has been. Auto racing in Europe was exclusive a long time ago, but it’s not so much anymore. Soccer is the main prole sport in Europe but even Formula 1 is getting prolish now.

        March 14, 2016 at 10:10 pm

      • What about John F. Kennedy, Jr. getting himself killed by piloting an airplane? Prole?

        March 14, 2016 at 10:32 pm

      • If you own a sail boat, no matter how small, that’s at least upper middle class. A power boat, no matter how large, is prole.

Although I seem to recall that Poppy Bush had a power boat. I don’t think he’s prole, although his descendants seem to be regressing to the mean.

      • Any “sport” that involves a motorized contraption is prole.

That traditionally was not true of Formula one race car driving in Europe which used to be for the sons of the rich.

In the US non “engine” sports like horse racing and yachting were non prole although jockies are mostly prole.

What about a kayak, prole or non-prole? Sailboats aren’t popular in my part of the world.

        March 15, 2016 at 12:26 am

      • Soccer is not exactly prole, it is like football in America

        March 15, 2016 at 12:48 am

      • Formula One Grand Prix of Monaco is Prole? Heck Formula One is … prole? Yeah sure NASCAR. But not F1, nor imho Le Mans and other sportscar racing. I’d hardly call Patrick Dempsey, Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, and James Garner … prole. Glamorous movie stars maybe. But not prole.

And there is a whole host of upper class activities that are hideously risky and hardly prole (base jumping, mountain climbing, off piste skiing, etc.)

        March 15, 2016 at 1:42 am

      • Indeed, the middle-class is the safest class to be in.

And as Europe and China demonstrated, you can have nice bloodlines but end up a wealthy prole.

BTW, NOT seeing that is prole.

        March 15, 2016 at 8:34 am

      • @Rosenmops: What about a kayak, prole or non-prole?

I’d say kayaking is neither prole nor non-prole; it’s “crunchy.” Last year, I bought a used kayak off Craigs List for a $100. It’s a blast to explore the vast local waterways near me. I see bunches of dolphins, manatees, fish jumping, hawks, pelicans, osprey, and the occasional eagle!

Now, fishing from a kayak…hhhmmm…I guess that’s “crunchy” as well.

  11. High proles and aristocrats alike have always shared a love of danger be it on snowmobile or on horseback. Much like Trump, our warrior King, and his peasant army they love the sting of battle.

    March 14, 2016 at 9:34 pm

    • Does Trump have any hobbies? What does he do for recreation? I guess he golfs. They say he watches a lot of TV, the news, cable news, etc. He doesn’t seem to be into fitness or very outdoorsy. And he seems smart but not very intellectual. Most wealthy businessmen and well off people these days are into fitness, the outdoors, unusual hobbies, are foodies, etc. Trump seems to be a throwback to rich guys in the past who didn’t really do anything except golf maybe. I wonder if he eats trendy or exotic cuisine or if he just mostly eats steak when he goes out.

  13. SWPLs need to engage in leisure activities that are healthy and cultural… eg cross country skiing and traveling to non-touristy areas of non-touristy countries. Actually that’s getting into class X territory. But anyway, using motorized vehicles for leisure isn’t allowed, so snowmobiling and motorcycles are right out. And they can only go to McDonald’s ironically, in a foreign country where other SWPLs won’t see them.

    March 14, 2016 at 10:31 pm

    • I was at my local McDonald’s the other day with my grand kids and also at the local pool. Prole maybe, but both places were whiteopias. I work at the local university which is not a whiteopia, so it made a nice change.

      March 15, 2016 at 12:23 am

    • I’ve heard that if you die while running a marathon, you go to SWPL heaven.

      March 15, 2016 at 8:08 am

  14. Equestrian sports are pretty dangerous, too, and aren’t for so-called “proles.” Didn’t “superman” break his neck in competition?

    March 14, 2016 at 10:33 pm

  15. I was aghast to find out that there’s actually something like a snowmobile, but for normal weather. And they do this instead of hiking. A lot of those people are overweight too.

    March 14, 2016 at 10:36 pm

    • I presume you mean riding an “ATV”? Those contraptions are peak prole: loud, obnoxious, tear apart forest trails, and are simply dumb.

I’m sure the injured Palin has a fleet of them.

      March 15, 2016 at 2:12 am

      March 15, 2016 at 10:31 am

  18. This is a fantastic piece on Trump’s personal psychology and whether he has ever actually thought about anything.

“I have now been through dozens of interviews with Trump with a variety of interviewers, and I have never once—not once—heard him discuss anything, any subject of any kind, with any evidence of knowledge, never mind thought. None. Zero. He’s like a skipping stone over a pond. He doesn’t even come close to the level of dilettante.”

    March 15, 2016 at 12:56 am

    • The classic haughty liberal error is to confuse intellectual with intelligent. Trump is not an intellectual — which is another reason to vote for him, in my book, since intellectuals should never be in charge of anything — but that does NOT mean he is not intelligent.

      March 15, 2016 at 9:56 am

      • Most persons with life experience, a bit of common sense, and a decent education (rare today) would NEVER conflate intellectuals with “intelligent”. Effete snobs have always disdained those who openly worked for and earned their money. Eewww- dirty hands!! Even worse, Trump used the rules created by the “in group” to make more money than most of them… how boorish!! Worst of all, his hair !! What a laugh- everything he does suckers the marks, and they are just SO superior, just knowing how dumb he is….

        March 15, 2016 at 10:44 am

You DO understand that Leftists lie as easily as they breath, don’t you? And they know full well that their lies will be amplified and repeated by the media, so they don’t hesitate for a moment to make something up out of whole cloth. I can assure you, that “reader” (who is probably fictional anyway) hasn’t sat through “dozens” of interviews. It’s just made up.

Naturally, James Fallows didn’t allow comments on his stupid compilation of stupid quotes. Of course he doesn’t, because he’d be torn apart inside of five minutes.

This article speaks to why SWPL families are so pro-choice. He broke an arm snowmobiling a while ago and finished a race. Bill Clinton had the smarts to bring that up to Letterman and make admiring noises about it.

All real men get injured in risky activities at least once in their lives. It’s just a part of the game.

“One particularly jarring moment: after the long scene in which Sarah struggles to get up the rock face, complaining the whole way, Todd takes his turn, and he moves up the mountain with a fluid, expert motion. The man is evidently a superb athlete. But the camera almost immediately breaks away from him, right in the middle of his climb, as though not to highlight him too much. Everything has to be about Sarah, even though one of the supposed themes of the show is her family’s togetherness.”

  28. What a remarkably silly post. Why, just yesterday I was playing golf on one of the most exclusive golf clubs in the country, and suffered several injuries. First, the skin under the nail on my middle finger is splitting, I think because I’m using the wrong grips. Next, I have a zit under my eye because sun block makes me break out like I’m still fifteen. I have a rash on my ankle from some poison oak-type plant I unwittingly brushed up against. My other ankle is twisted from stepping on an I visible pine co e while searching for a lost ball. Finally, my favorite shirt got ripped when I didn’t duck far enough under the barbed wire as security was chasing me out. I wish I’d gone snowmobiling
