Another take on Trump’s AIPAC speech

I like the last paragraph of this Haaretz article about the AIPAC speech:

A friend [presumably a super-liberal Trump-hating kind of friend] who watched the proceedings on television said he felt the need to take a shower to get the stain off. But then I met a religious family walking back to their hotel, engaged in a deep debate over the evening’s speeches. I eavesdropped just as they reached a family decision to transfer their votes from Cruz to Trump. When I asked them why, they said because “he’ll be good for Israel.” And how did they know that, I persisted, and they looked at me as if I was an idiot. “Didn’t you hear his speech?” they asked, and rightly so. I saw and heard the whole thing, and still find it hard to believe.

It should be noted that Haaretz is a leftist propaganda rag run by self-hating Jews, and thus they hate Trump.

  1. Haaretz writers are, for the most part, not self hating Jews. Gideon Levy, Amira Hass and that is about it. Other than that they are mostly pretty standard Israeli ultra leftists, the type who vote for Meretz.

They leftist true believers, but not self haters. Shlomo Sand, Israel Shamir and Norman Finkelstein are self hating Jews and Haaretz writers are not that.

    • What would you call this article?

The stupid rag prints an article trying to undermine the Divine origins of our circumcision. It will close down in a few years, but more Jews will circumcise then ever.

The funny thing is that they market themselves as ‘a newspaper for thinking people’ ( עתון לאנשים חושבים)! Lol!

  2. Why are there so many self hating Jews? Seems suicidal to me. Granted, I could probably say the same thing about white Gentiles.

    March 24, 2016 at 12:13 pm

    • Intelligent people have a high degree of neuroticism and self-critical faculties. Happiness is for children & NAMs.

      March 24, 2016 at 5:56 pm

      • Post-Jewish is more accurate than self hating. I don’t think neuroticism is necessarily associated with self-hatred, though there is some truth to it.

        March 24, 2016 at 8:22 pm

    • I got a theory about that. It is mostly Ashkenazi holocaust survivors families, at least in Israel. The thing is, those families were not really zionist, they wanted to stay in Europe and be part of it, maybe even assimilate.

They had to come to Israel but they carry with them a huge shame for not recognising the evil in Europe and how right were the people who immigrated to Israel or America before the war started. It is not a simple shame of making a wrong decision, it is the shame of a survivor for the relatives who died.

To justify their feeling they must demonise Israel (and America), if Israel is so bad then they can justify to themselves why they liked Europe so much and why they haven’t immigrated when they had a chance. If Israel is so bad they actually let their family die for a moral cause.

      March 24, 2016 at 7:37 pm

      • False theory. Most of Israel’s population had not returned to its land as a matter of choice. The central idea of secular Zionism was a creation of a new Jewish Nation that would collectively assimilate among the nation’s of the world by jetisoning it’s outdated religious practices and traditional occupations and by living a healthy national life among the family of nations. There are many laudable aspects to this program, but a nation without a past – is a nation without a future. The new national idea has failed to create a lasting or meaningful identity, while the religious and traditional parts of the population endured, expanded and became the majority in the country. Hence the suicidal and irrational self-hatred. It’s found in the generation of the founders of the state and more often in their descendants.

        March 25, 2016 at 12:43 am

      • I am not so sure about the national identity, yes, country building and all the Zionist ideology is a thing of the past but the new Israelis have a national sense just from being born there, like in any other country. I agree that a lot of them feel like the country was “stolen” from them when the Likud party came into power.

    • Right-wing Jews hate left-wing Jews, and vice versa. So they are not, technically speaking, self-hating. When they look in the mirror, it’s unconditional love all the way.

      March 24, 2016 at 8:20 pm

      • Right wingers hate left wingers and vice-versa, the world over. Nothing new here. But left-wing hate is significantly stronger, and usually irrational.

        March 24, 2016 at 10:38 pm

      • A strange analogy. Haaretz type liberal, progressive or whatever Jews don’t want Israel to exist as a Jewish State. This is self hating. They corroborate with israeli enemies and work to undermine her international position. Nothing comparable exists on the right.

        March 25, 2016 at 12:24 am

    • If they are self hating in the sense that they are anti-Israel I think it’s simply a case of being leftists first, Jews second. Unfortunately, those who are Israel first/leftism second tend to be neoconservatives…the worst segment of Republicans.

  3. I was in Washington this week for work and for kicks I went to see Trump and the other candidates speak at the AIPAC conference.

The conference organizers shot themselves in the foot a little bit — before the speeches they stressed to everyone that you should feel free to applaud anything or anyone you like; but you should not boo a speaker or statement you don’t like. Which seems like a reasonable policy, but it really helps a charismatic but outspoken guy like Trump.

Anyway, I agree that there is probably some tension between AIPAC’s leadership and the rank and file. AIPAC’s leadership takes a sober view about all this. Their priority is to work with whomever is elected to help contain Iran, to continue defense cooperation between the US and Israel, etc. The last thing they need is for the Middle East — and especially Israel — to pop up on everyone’s radar screen and turn into a partisan issue. Better to have lukewarm support on a consistent basis than to alternate between hot and cold.

On the other hand, the rank and file likes the idea of an American Netanyahu for the same reason they like Israel’s Netanyahu. They hate Obama’s obvious sympathy for Israel’s adversaries and they expect President Trump would not have this kind of left-wing bias.

Personally, I came out of the day no longer a Trump supporter. I used to like him mainly because he pissed off the Leftists and SJWs so much. But listening to him, it seemed to me he was just as oily and dishonest as every other politician. He does deserve credit for coming out and stating that there is a problem in the West with Muslims. Like Lion says, even if the taxi drivers and halal cart guys are pretty much fine, their children are vulnerable to the swansong of extremists back in the Middle East.

    March 24, 2016 at 12:39 pm

    • I don’t think he’s being oily and insincere.

      (1) He’s lived his whole life in NYC and is in the real estate business. His world could hardly be more Jewish.
      (2) His daughter Ivanka and grandchildren are Jewish.
      (3) He has a strong preference for civilized people over barbarians. Hence of course he would prefer Israel over its neighbors.

He’s not like the republicucks who love Israel for mysterious religious reasons. As a New Yorker who has been among Jews his whole life, they are his kind of people, and in part they are literally his people.

  4. Lion: years ago when Rails looked like the next big thing, you were scathing in your criticism of it. History has seemed to bear you out, as nobody cares about Rails anymore.

Now that Node.js has replaced Rails as the trendy backend server, how do you feel? Is server side JavaScript the future or will people eventually get bored and go back to .Net and the Java frameworks?

  5. What’s an example of a good publication run by self-loving Jews?

    March 24, 2016 at 12:58 pm

    • This won’t work if by publication you mean *magazine*, and I don’t know if Lion would allow me to publish it here, but a great blog I read is Abu Yehuda, an American Jew who recently made aliyah and is fighting for Israel right in the center of the action. He’s the real thing:

      March 24, 2016 at 6:17 pm

    • I wish there was one.

      March 24, 2016 at 6:21 pm

      • You mean as opposed to the neocon mags like Commentary and liberal ones like Tikkun?

I don’t think enough Jews feel sympathy with nationalism outside Israel to staff a magazine–there’s just too much bad blood in the recent history. I don’t think the USA is actually as dangerous as either group says, but I have to admit some of Trump’s fans scare me. It’s too bad, because it’s fun seeing them swing at groups like feminists and SJWs in general I don’t like.

        March 24, 2016 at 9:24 pm

    • Commentary magazine, no?

      Mark Caplan

      March 24, 2016 at 11:27 pm

    • A lot of its articles are behind a paywall but I think the London Jewish Chronicle is a good publication. It’s embarrassingly well-written – meaning, it puts any American Jewish paper to shame. It manages to be both Jewish and general, and there is no conflict between the two.

      March 25, 2016 at 9:20 am

    • “What’s an example of a good publication run by self-loving Jews?”

      Here’s a few:

      Sultan Knish

Legal Insurrection (William A. Jacobson – Cornell Law School – Cornell University)

Steyn Online (Steyn is of Jewish descent)

The Truth About Guns (Robt Farago is Jewish and doesn’t hide it – His father was a guerilla fighter against the Nazis in WWII.)

Jews For The Preservation of Firearms Ownership

By the way, one explanation for self-hating Jews is this observation by Robert Frost:
“A liberal is a man too broadminded to take his own side in a quarrel.” – Robert Frost

      Nedd Ludd

      March 25, 2016 at 9:38 am

    • You can try Jerusalem Post. Do know if it fits your definition of “self loving jews”, but it is not as left wing as Haaretz.

      March 28, 2016 at 3:30 am

  6. Hey Lion, glad you made the point that it’s not all, but only the high end Jews who are super liberal. They (the Soros and the Zuckerbergs) do have the best platform and the loudest voices within the greater American Jewish community and therefore do a great disservice by:
    1) supporting the most left-wing of causes
    2) keeping alive some of the worst stereotype about Jews and unwittingly fanning the flames of anti-semitism (and having said that I do understand that some anti-Semites will find a reason to hate no matter what)

    March 24, 2016 at 3:18 pm

    • Hey Lion, glad you made the point that it’s not all, but only the high end Jews who are super liberal. They (the Soros and the Zuckerbergs)

      That’s not really being disputed.

The problem is when people (not you) try to use Jewish elites as a way to excuse that of gentile elites who are more guilty than Jewish elites because the gentiles end up pushing the same policies even when Jews are a negligible portion of a country’s elite.

Brussels and the EU establishment hasn’t been pro-Israel (except for a brief moment during the Suez crisis) in part because Jews are a much smaller fraction of that establishment. And little good that’s done the native people’s of Western Europe: Anti-semitic leftists like Jeremy Corbyn and Juncker are still for open borders.

  7. @LotB:

Did you see this interview between Slate and Newt Gingrich? I was never a big fan of Newt’s, but the way he backslaps this reporter is beautiful to read. You really see how liberal media can twist words or a position of Trump’s from nuanced to evil. Newt, to his defense, appears to at least not be terrified of Trump. His statements sound like common sense and get my agreement.

    March 24, 2016 at 3:30 pm

    • Wow. Thanks for that link. Really good stuff. Time and again, I see and hear things that reassure me Trump is the guy. That interview also makes me think I may have not given Gingrich enough credit in the past. The great thing about interviews like that is you get a sense from people who actually ~know~ what’s going on, how the game is played and the people involved. Rather than merely trying to make sense of the dog and pony show as seen through the media’s lens.

But you actually have to buy the paper to see who they are, so fuhgeddaboutit.

    March 24, 2016 at 5:14 pm

    • I saw that. It doesn’t matter who they are. This is the National Enquirer, the most reliable news source in the world when it comes to extra-marital affairs. (Serious here, no sarcasm.)

You women are all the same with your meaningless gossip about celebrity affairs, and all other aspects.

Hmmm, wonder if @amandacarpenter (far right of tabloid picture) would care to comment on being in this article?

She was moved off the Cruz campaign for unexplained reasons. Presumably Mrs. Cruz was the one who gave her the shove.

        The Undiscovered Jew

        March 24, 2016 at 8:43 pm

      • John Lennon, RIP, used to read the National Enquirer regularly. He claimed that it was the only publication that got it right with what was going on with his life, so, he figured that if they were getting it right about him they were probably getting it right about other notables and celebrities.

        March 24, 2016 at 10:41 pm

    • The Enquirer is nearly respectable as tabloids go, but I can’t believe someone as ambitious and focused as Cruz would behave like this!

      • High status guys have a lot of temptations.

It’s also possible they have an open marriage–quite a few women will share the high-status guy as long as they get to be the wife and raise the kids. It makes a lot of sense from the evolutionary point of view.

        March 24, 2016 at 9:25 pm

      • @SFG
‘High status guys have a lot of temptations.’

They have high energy levels which means high sexual drive. It’s just comes with their personalities. It’s about time we stop outing them. It’s the private lives, you know.

        March 25, 2016 at 8:39 am

    • I’m skeptical. It’s got to move beyond the Enquirer before it gets credence.

      March 24, 2016 at 7:21 pm

      • Gothamette is right about the National Enquirer, they have become a reliable source. No sarcasm. Their fellow supermarket-checkout tabloids still write about space aliens and four-headed babies, but not Nat. Enq.

However, if you want to rely on this rag for news, you’d better have excellent reading-comprehension skills and parse the article carefully. Their standard is “we’ll be able to mount a successful defense to a libel lawsuit.” For example, the text will often read something like, “A source close to Mr. X told us that his office was buzzing with accounts of his weekend frolic with the former beauty queen.” The “news” here would be the content of the office gossip, which could be substantiated in court by the reporter’s testimony and notes. The nature of the “weekend frolic” being left as an exercise for the reader.

        March 25, 2016 at 10:40 am

    • As Cruz mentioned In his autobiography, A TIME FOR TRUTH, for two years Cruz worked at a nice government job in Texas while Mrs. Cruz worked at a nice government job in Washington, DC. When Mrs. Cruz finally moved to Texas to join Ted, she fell into a debilitating depression, so even then their carnal relations presumably remained less than ideal.

  10. Steve Sailer says that rich Jewish people with too much free time and too much money invest in politics for fun that same way that Rich Southern men invest in college football. Donald Trump seems to agree. He says, “I know these people…. They’re gambling.”

At this point, what stands between Trump and the nomination isn’t candidates or votes… What stands between him and the nomination is big pots of money opposing him.

Some of that money is Jewish, which is why it was really important for him to blow off Fox and Megyn and another debate to talk at that conference.

    March 24, 2016 at 5:36 pm

    • Lion may neg me for this, but yes, I agree. He’s got to win over the Jewish corner of the big money…or at least reassure them he’s not going to pull an Adolf. The neocons are really, really scared.

      I think he did that.

I’m a little more worried about his successor. I don’t think Trump is going to win…he may well win the nomination but… “I’m talking to myself” on foreign policy? I don’t have a huge amount of faith in this guy in the general. Trump is about as philosemitic as you can get without actually being Jewish, but if some Pat Buchanan type pops up next…?

Keep in mind I actually would like to see immigration restricted and trade decline, so I’m pretty conflicted about this.

      March 24, 2016 at 9:29 pm

      • Jewish leftists gin up fear of anti-semitism among Jews to neutralize Jewish rightists. The fact that Jewish rightists spurn their natural allies (people like Trump and Buchanan) is (in my opinion) one of the major causes of the tiny bit of genuine anti-semitism that actually exists.

        March 25, 2016 at 2:06 am

      • The thing is, I can’t imagine that anyone who supports immigration restriction not being dealt the racist/Nazi card by the media. Open borders support is one of those positions that signals how non racist you are, so if you oppose it, the natural default position by the media is nativist, xenophobe, racist, and of course, literally Hitler. Trump has some immunity to this of course because of his family, but he’s still called a fascist or Hitler, so really, anyone taking that position is going to be regarded as anti semitic.

  11. Buchanan, who I regard as an American hero, is hardly a natural ally of the Jews. He hates Jews.

For some reason, people with extreme political positions tend to be very hostile to Jews. Whether they be extreme left or extreme right. I’m not really sure why that is. Jews also tend to earn the wrath of weird, fringe groups like extreme feminists, LGBT extremists and environmentalist wackos. Buchanan isn’t like any of them but “Otis’s Law” says that the further you get from the political center, the more anti semites you will find. I doubt there are any anti-semitic Kasich fans, for instance.

Ted Cruz must be a lot more alpha than we give him credit for. He manages to sleep with some really attractive, educated and accomplished women.

    Otis the Sweaty

    March 25, 2016 at 9:22 am

    • Trump has taken up three of Buchanan’s long-time issues and made them more palatable for large numbers of voters:

      1. No to open borders
      2. No to free trade
      3. No to wars that do not clearly serve US interests

Trump differs from Buchanan by not engaging in anti-Israel rhetoric. Not playing up the standard social issues. And perhaps willing to employ a realist foreign policy rather than isolationism.

      Lewis Medlock

      March 25, 2016 at 3:18 pm

    • Jews are about the only group you can find being the target of either group on ‘Stormfront or SJW’.

Probably because there are so many in mainstream positions of power, I think.

As for Ted Cruz: power is the ultimate aphrodisiac. You’re a politician, you can get an awful lot of tail.
