Wisconsin primary!

Polls close at 9:00 PM EDT (8:00 PM local time). I wish Trump good luck, and I hope I’m wrong but he may only win 2 out of 8 CDs. Very bad loss for Trump if that happens. Maybe yesterday’s ARG poll showing Trump with a 10% lead over Cruz indicates that opinion changed? But probably the poll is just wrong because of a small sample size.

  1. Hmm… the early exit polls don’t look good.

“While 56 percent said the nomination should go to the candidate with the most votes, 42 percent said the delegates should be able to choose anyone they prefer at July’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland. More than eight-in-ten of those who said they supported Donald Trump (83 percent) said they preferred the nomination go to the person with the most votes, while just 42 percent of those backing another candidate said the same.” http://www.politico.com/blogs/2016-gop-primary-live-updates-and-results/2016/04/wisconsin-republican-exit-polls-221597

I set up my equation as .83x + .42(1-x) = .56, where x is the fraction that supports Trump. Solving for x I got 34%.

  2. OT question:

Is there anything special you need to do in order to vote in a primary? My state (PA) is coming up and obviously has never mattered before so I never bothered.

    • Some states you have to be registered to a party to vote in that primary, which means closed. I don’t know what Pa is.

    • You have to register with a party to vote in that party’s primary. It’s a closed primary for PA

      • Yeah, I’m registered Republican. I just didn’t know if they have a huge list of names at the polls, or if I have to request an invitation or what.

    • As long as you are registered to vote already, just show up.

    • If you’re a registered Republican then you don’t have to do anything. If you’re not then it’s too late. The deadline to register was last week.

    • In pa you have to look up in advance which candidates in your district support Trump. It doesn’t say on the ballot. It’s just a list of names.

      • That wasn’t it. Did you see the last town hall? Several Wisconsinites asked about the need for more immigration to meet labor needs. Trump went into his “LEGALLY, we’re going to do it legally” routine. Cruz stood firm. He said we had to put the Amercan people first. Trump’s getting trumped on his signature issue. He doesn’t seem to realizehow tough he can get on legal immigration and still win. He can make it an issue to win. Somebody should tell him that.

        Dave

April 5, 2016 at EST pm

      • Nobody is voting for Cruz because they think he is going to be tougher on immigration whether legal or illegal. Certainly not in any numbers. Everyone knows Trump owns the issue of immigration.

But I agree that Trump could use new talking points about legal immigration that align more with his policy paper.

        Andrew E.

April 5, 2016 at EST pm

      • I’m questioning how tough he is on legal immigration. Others must be too. It’s a packaged deal. When you are only tough on one, it makes you seem insincere and untrustworthy on the entirety of the issue. It can’t hurt him to take a strong stance on legal immigration — and to defend it. It helps disarm the arguments that he is a bigot because it doesn’t single groups out.

        Dave

April 6, 2016 at EST am

      • Trump is a buffoon. He is basically a “legal immigration = good” guy. He discovered the issue of immigration purely by accident, he isn’t passionate about it like he is about trade.

He doesn’t understand immigration and really doesn’t understand any issue. He feels like he can just delegate responsibility while he provides the alpha male leadership, and he’s probably right that he could do that if he won, but you can’t get elected when you are exposed as a total ignoramus.

Trump would get clobbered by Hillary in the general. We don’t want Trump to win the nom. Let the GOP steal the nom for Cruz and the party get massacred down ballot.

I will not miss Trump when he is gone. He’s an idiot. But he has served a very valuable purpose: he has mainstreamed anti immigration politics. The issue wouldn’t have been discussed at all if not for him and now it will be a front and center issue for always in GOP primaries.

  4. I’m not disappointed or angry cause I knew Wisc was cuck central. Now we are done with the midwest though.

I don’t think Trump can get to 1237 and even if he did, I don’t think he can win because the party is simply too divided. Things are going to need to get a lot worse before they get better. Let’s just lose by 10 points with Cruz and let Hillary destroy the Dems over the next 4 years.

    • as your final Trumpgasm hope fade look at it this way- Trump would be so monumentally unpopular among the base that he would cost the Senate and endanger the House, thus assuring that a near total amnesty would pass in the first Hillary Rodham term.

Ironically Trump is the thing would bring about what you flail against.

      • At this stage, I want amnesty. Time to destroy America.

The House isn’t going anywhere but the GOP is going to get annihilated in the Senate, which is a good thing.

Enjoy losing by 10 points with Cruz.

      • Great slug line for the Trump campaign… “Trump – Time to Destroy America”

And “Amnesty” under President Cruz is going to look a lot different than President Kasish or President Rodham, so its not all the same thing.

No kidding. Who the hell is Ryan blowing that the GOPe wants him so bad? And are they really clueless enough to think we’d support that worm?

If it’s Ryan vs Hillary then I’m voting Hillary. I hate her but sometimes you just have to beat someone’s ass to make them behave. And voting Hillary is the only way I know to beat the GOPe’s ass.

I think the key to national survival is electing a nationalist congress. Screw the presidency, it’s overrated. We need nationalists in congress. I haven’t given up yet.

Or maybe import Frauke Petry and change the constitution to allow her to be president. She’s awesome!

  8. It’s unlikely Cruz’s victory in Wisconsin will translate well to the upcoming primary states. However, the fact remains that at this point Cruz and Kasich are only helping the establishment setup a brokered convention. Both of them need to be taken down once and for all; Cruz’s infidelities should be used to bring his campaign to a halt (the Enquirer is expected to release a new edition about that story tomorrow) and Kasich should be offered a cushy, non-VP, position in a Trump government.

Right. It’s like Gulliver & the Lilliputians. I think they really do want Paul Ryan as the nom. I do not believe even they are stupid enough to think he can win against Hillary in 2016. I do think they are stupid enough to think he can win in 2020. They are totally delusional.

Ryan is absurd. Cruz, even if his affairs were all made public before the convention, would deserve the nomination over Ryan.
