Prince

Prince is dead at the rather young age of 57. Cause of death: the flu. Perhaps, because he was a vegan, he didn’t have enough protein to fight it off.

I never cared for his music. In fact, I dislike his music so much, I’m not even going to post a favorite music video because I don’t have one.

  2. You wouldn’t be able to post them anyway because he’s the one artist who has been able to keep his music off the internet.

  3. Prince had a load of good songs! There was “Little Red Corvette,” and “When Doves Cry.” And… and… “Little Red Corvette,” and “When Doves Cry.” And that song about the red Corvette. And that song about doves.

    • I’m not a big fan but he had plenty of other good songs (‘Kiss”, “Sign of the Times”, “When You Were Mine” to start). He also wrote his own songs and played multiple instruments (recording entire songs himself in many cases). And what good songs he did have get extra credit because they were incredibly idiosyncratic musically and lyrically.

  6. I am actually surprised by the immense meltdown the MSM is havig over his passing. I feel sorry for his family, hope he rests in peace, etc. But I always thought of him as sort of a washed up 80s figure. Sort of a Michael Jackson knock-off. Not until today did I realize he was a ONCE IN A GENERATION LEGENDARY PERFORMANCE ARTIST. His music is pretty unspectacular to me.

    Your ’80s crush Susanna Hoffs:

    • LOL Susanna Hoff was produced by him and DATED HIM. So did Aussie Pop Idol Sheena Easton. Prince might have been effeminate but he was 100% straight. 🙂

      • No one can be that effeminate and be straight. Show biz women will not only date but marry queers. The women fall for the guys because they feel that the limp wrists are so sensitive and creative.

  11. TMZ is reporting he had a drug overdose a few days ago so more than likely his death is drug related. If only he stayed a devout Jehovah’s Witness like he was several years ago he would probably still be alive today. Some people need religion to stay on the straight and narrow.

  13. There’s something I agree with you on. I’ve always found him overrated. I’m told he was a very skilled performer, but I’ve never understood the appeal of his songs. Once, to see what all the fuss was about, I looked up a few of his #1 hits and listened to them, and there were just… blah. Not bad, just not nearly as catchy or foot-tapping as I’d expect from #1 hits. I suspect he was overrated because he was black and flamboyant.

    • Back in 1984, when he released his big album, it didn’t sound like anything else on the radio. Remember that the alternatives were Van Halen, Michael Jackson, and Madonna.

  15. I have a pleasant memory making out with a girl in San Francisco with Prince greatest hits playing on her CD player. This was early 2000’s.

My favourite tracks, would be ‘Rasperry Beret’, ‘When the Doves Cry, ‘1999’, & ‘Diamonds & Pearls’.

This. His ’80s music sounded tinny, trebly and his falsetto was horrible. If I had to pick one song, I would say the semi-psychedelic “Pop Life” which makes fun of someone using cocaine (“Whatcha puttin in your nose? Is that where all your money goes?”)

  17. Bill O’Reilly had Dana Perino on tonight and they were talking potential VP candidates. Bill thinks that Trump should choose Gov. Susana Martinez of NM. He says that if Trump wants to win, then she’s really the only choice. Does Bill O’Reilly read LotB?

  20. Prince was great at marketing. Like Trump.

Good name. Imagine the same guy but a less flashy dresser named Roger Nelson. Same music.

His music meant nothing to me. The music he wrote for others was just terrible.

  21. Good riddance!

Many fans boycotted him anyway since the day his lawyers shut down every fan site a few years ago, as a prelude to then also sue 22 fans for $1 million each because of linking to live bootlegs, which were not even available to buy.

And please specify which prince next time, i thought prince Bandar Bush at first glance.

  22. If you think Prince’s major pop hits represent the music he cared about then you don’t know him very well. He’d rather play acoustic guitar and jam the blues, which is what he’d been doing at his shows for the last 12 years.

Also, Prince opposed the ad-driven digitization of pop music from the beginning and he was right – pop music lost any of its remaining artistry, white/rock/alternative music is dead, R&B has lost its soul and everything has deteriorated into an ugly amalgamation of pseudo-rap sung by producer-driven, talentless youngsters who won a performance contest at the local mall.

  23. My Facebook feed hasn’t blown up over this quite as much as it did over Bowie, but lord I’m so sick of everyone having to spout out their FEELS every time some hack musician from their youth kicks the bucket. There’s going to be a wave of this ahead as so many of the old farts are on death’s door. Enough with the emoting already. I blame Princess Diana for starting this trend of massive public blubbering, and social media added a gigantic amplification effect.

Stiff upper lip people! Cry over real tragedies.

You’d think 9/11 would have taught Americans the difference between real tragedies and faux tragedies, but no. It’s all FEELS all the time. Sickening. Look how much I feel! The death of Prince gives me the sads! Ugh.

Though when Springsteen dies it will be amusing to watch all of white New Jersey have a collective nervous breakdown. (The brothers in Newark will be all like, “who Springsteen?”)

  24. I googled ‘prince aids’ and got this, a blind gossip site which 3 days ago had this:

“We just received word that a VERY popular African American celebrity – who has recently been in the news – now has what is being described as AIDS.”

LOL. No it isn’t. The song is terrible, Sinead can’t sing, the video is ugly and pointless.

This is Prince’s “White side”. White people love depressing, emotionally self centered music that nobody can dance to or get hyped up by.

      It’ just …….blahhhhhhhhhh.

  26. I always felt prince was overrated. In fact most 80s music is overrated.

The “I just want your extra time and your kiss” song is kind of cute though.

Also, Prince has (well had) an intensely creepy vibe. Am I the only one to notice this?
