Tommy Tutone – 867-5309/Jenny

Perhaps my favorite one-hit wonder from the 1980s.

Jenny only appears briefly in the video, but she’s way prettier than Stacy’s mom. I have no idea what the kid in the other video sees in Stacy’s mom. Although presumably Stacy’s mom’s phone number isn’t written on a bathroom wall with the annotation “for a good time call.”

  1. Bruce Springsteen’s “radio nowhere” is apparently a rip-off from this.

  2. Are you kidding, Lion? Stacy’s mom is model Rachel Hunter who is absolutely scorching. Thing is, Stacy may actually be even hotter.

    • Stacy was flat as a board. Still is, actually. Apparently she’s some kind of left wing artist living in Lebanon and helping “refugees” now.

  3. You are now aware that 8675309 and 8675311 are twin primes.

Great video and song. It’s remarkable how we used to expect musicians to actually sing and/or play.

    • Plenty of musicians still sing and play. Here’s the Neon Trees with their tribute to the 1980s:

Here’s The Killers playing The Way It Was live in Brazil:

Plenty more like this on YouTube.

  4. FInally Lion and I agree on a song. And it only took 2 1/2 years to happen! Other 1980’s great songs: What is love, Hold me Now, Down Under, Take on me, Eternal Flame, Chains of love, For a 1970’s one hit wonder try “Heartbeat, it’s a lovebeat.” by the DeFranco family. They were Canadian Italians. As JS might put it “For a bunch of guidos they were pretty talented.”

And now I just remembered the 80’s song “She’s got the look,” which always sounded to me like it should have been a jeans commercial.

  5. I feel sorry for the poor individual who actually had that as his phone number! But apparently that Jenny really got around! LOL.

  7. The Fueld by Ramen crowd has a lot of these post-punk guitar-bass-drum combo bands.
