Medicaid now covers sex-change operations

Just got a letter from my Medicaid plan telling me that they now cover “gender reassignment care.” Including surgery.

I’m not opposed to free healthcare from the government, but this is ridiculous and a waste of the taxpayers money.

  1. That’s the problem with universal healthcare in a world run by liberals.

Under Obamacare, everyone now has to have coverage for rehab and drug treatment, despite all the evidence that shows rehab doesn’t work. Interest groups define more and more things as “mental illness” rather than crimes or character flaws so they can get a piece of the pie.

    • The problem is that things are run by stupid liberals and not the concept of healthcare.

    • The welfare state would be great if it wasn’t run by liberals.

      June 9, 2016 at 4:51 pm

      • The welfare state is a leftist proposition, it has to be run by leftists. The welfare state works when there is a high level of social trust, and a necessary, but not sufficient, factor for social trust is ethnic homogeneity. We in the USA will never have a successful welfare state. We had small features of success (eg. high education) from the 1930s through the 1970s, but that country is gone forever.

Is this your excuse for why you haven’t signed up for Obamacare, aside from minor side issues such as the high probability the personal information you enter on the Obama exchange website will be hacked and sold on the black market faster than than ISIS, the Chinese, North Korea, and Putin hacked into Hillary’s server?

      • Medicaid is superior, 100% free with no copays. But you have to see a primary care physician before you can see anyone else. And my Manhattan dentist doesn’t take it.

      • Do you qualify for medicaid if you have no income or very little? If a single person made 18000 but didn’t get insurance through his employer, he wouldn’t qualify for medicaid because he makes too much, correct?

You have quite a bit of savings I am sure, but that doesn’t count against you when applying for medicaid?

    • You mean “criminality” rather than “crimes”, I think. Anyway, I’d be happy with “neurological defect”. I really want to have a clear idea of what my neurological defect is, the one that’s gotten me fired from about 25 jobs. It’s not quite the high-functioning autism thing that most of the people posting on interesting blogs have. I was pretty excited and happy when I realized that I probably fall under the heading of “borderline personality disorder”. No wonder I hate everyone at SlateStarCodex! They’re all aspies, while I’m borderline! Actually, I like aspies (except for the ones at SlateStarCodex), speedies (good name for ADHDers?), clinical narcissists, and sociopaths; I just can’t stand normals — they make my skin crawl. When a normal looks at me, I feel as though I’m being inspected by an alligator.

    • The biggest problem with letting liberal control over health care expand is that it will only be for wealthy whites and vibrant people of color. Middle class and poor whites will have even worse options they do now.

      June 9, 2016 at 9:41 pm

    • ” But you have to see a primary care physician before you can see anyone else. And my Manhattan dentist doesn’t take it.”
If you sign up for United Health Care Community Plan, which admin’s Medicaid in NY State, you don’t need to see a primary before you see a specialist.

I don’t trust any of the dentists on that plan (they all have Russian names, LOL), I go to NYU School of Dentistry on E. 24th St. You have to put up with a lot of bureaucratic crap, but the care is excellent, better than private dentists in fact, some of whom are scammers. You’ll get primary care there for nothing. You don’t have to be part of UHC, they just take Medicaid.

      June 11, 2016 at 8:12 pm

  2. This is mostly why I’m opposed to free healthcare from the government. It will always turn into paying for stupid stuff like this while someone waits 8 months to get a cancer diagnosis. Politics trumps health.

    June 9, 2016 at 4:08 pm

  3. This offends me more than most things that the government does.

It offends me not because of any religious considerations but because it is pure scientific baloney. It is thoroughly impossible to change a person’s sex, and this stance exhibits pure scientific stupidity on the part of our idiotic overlords.

I can’t stand it that folks like Obama are so utterly ignorant about reality and meanwhile so smugly self righteous. The right is foolish to fight this crap on moral grounds. They should fight it on the grounds that the left is ignorant, superstitious, and stuck in a dark ages and in the thrall of primitive belief systems. They should attack the left for being intellectually inferior.

Everyone who is declined for medical treatment that actually matters has reason to be pissed off.

    • Keep this in your back pocket for when you hear someone going off about moronic rednecks rejecting evolution. At least creationism doesn’t make the rednecks turn their dongs inside out, funded by the tax payer no less.

      June 9, 2016 at 6:36 pm

      • Liberals accept the view that man evolved but tend to deny that biology plays any meaningful role in human behavior. This allows them to feel superior to the creationists without amending their blank slate philosophy.

        June 10, 2016 at 3:11 pm

    • The left would have no problem finding a supply of scientists, doctors and psychologists to back up the science of sex change. Frankly, I think you’d have a tough time now finding an “expert” who would be willing to back your position up publicly, and it’s only going to get harder in the future.

      June 9, 2016 at 8:58 pm

      • The “science of sex change” — LOL we are screwed.

I do find some partial solace in the certain knowledge that I am the actual intellectual superior of all these intellectual midgets, because while the sum total of my knowledge of medicine may not be that large, at least it is a positive number.

Bloodletting has only recently faded from prominence, having been the first, best medical option for thousands of years. We are supposed to be moving forward here.

” I think you’d have a tough time now finding an “expert” who would be willing to back your position up publicly”

I am an actual thinker and having no problem going alone, and I would rather not have the company of these benighted leftist theologians who call themselves experts anyhow. But I am not really going alone. Virtually everyone agrees with my position based on their actions: the fraction of people actually willing to chop off their dongs is extremely small. Its just that most people are too cowardly to actually say what most people know is true.

  6. Oh and my individual health insurance premiums rise 20% next year. Since Obamacare they will have more than doubled to over 350 a month. My deductible doubled too… several thousand a year out of pocket before the insurer pays a nickel. So I don’t go to the doctor and deal with my chronic conditions without treatment. Oh but thank goodness the sluts get their $300 a month birth control pill because the $10 a month ones aren’t good enough. Thanks Obamacare!

I’m almost going to welcome being conquered by the Chinese or the Muslims. They may end a lot of our freedoms, but they’ll put an end to the nonsense.

    Thin-Skinned Masta-Beta

    June 9, 2016 at 4:58 pm

    • You hold a common misconception about the Chinese. A current Chinese TV show (not sure whether it is already on the air or just approved by the government and in production), is about a “transgender teen.” Another is about five young unmarried women who are pursuing careers. The Chinese government yaks about “don’t corrupt our culture,” but they are either unaware of or don’t care about what is actually corrupting. So if China were to “conquer“ us, we would get all the tyranny, the idiocy, the contempt for reality, the erasure of culture and history, the 500 million fake social media messages posted by government operatives per year, and so on, which currently exist in China, but we would also ultimately find ourselves in the same mess we are dealing with now. They may be just starting down the path, but make no mistake, they are on it.

      June 9, 2016 at 10:31 pm

      • Another common misconception about the Chinese is that most of them are actually conscious beings. I suppose that there’s an argument to be made for being ruled by “friendly” (in a purely behavioral sense), competent unconscious AIs, but in this case we’d be ruled by unfriendly incompetent androids — except for that unfortunate conscious 10% of them (almost all female) who realize their predicament and escape the Hive by finding Western mates.

    • It’s not prole, but neither is it TOOS.

      • Bernie Sanders seems to be a prototype or trendsetter, for an upcoming Libertarian party.

        June 9, 2016 at 11:25 pm

    • Yes. I’ve said several times on this blog that Libertarianism draws it’s strength from the same groups that the New Left did – the educated upper middle classes and those under 30. Both groups are shielded from the consequences of their actions – the well to do by their wealth, and the young by their inexperience and their reliance on their parents’ money/responsibility. One rarely hears of a 45 year old plumber with two children in parochial school being attracted to Libertarianism. In one of his books. E.J. Dionne recalls an oddball attempt in the 1960s to join Libertarianism with the New Left – they called it “The Radical Libertarian Alliance.” It went nowhere, of course. I’ve always detested libertarianism, partly because it attracts a type of person who likes to poke at conventionality in a stereotypically adolescent sort of way and imagine that this makes his a deep thinker. It’s another trait libertarians share with those who were in the New Left.

      June 9, 2016 at 10:34 pm

      • Your assessment of the stereotypical upper middle class libertarian is true enough for the Reason Magazine and Cato Institute crowd. However, there is also a strong right wing element within the movement. The Ludwig Von Mises Institute and many of there adherents like Lew Rockwell and Jeffrey Tucker are traditionalist Catholics and they overlap a lot with Paleocons. Hardcore libertarians like Hans Herman Hoppe even advocate monarchy over democracy which veers into neo-reaction territory. They are a very diverse lot, but one thing is for sure. They are definitely right wingers because their fundamental philosophy denies egalitarianism and sees human inequality as natural and acceptable.

        June 10, 2016 at 7:01 am

      • “They are definitely right wingers because their fundamental philosophy denies egalitarianism and sees human inequality as natural and acceptable.”

      June 10, 2016 at 8:13 am

    • I’ve been told Libertarianism recently has been infiltrated and subverted by the progs. Anyone know if this is so? I definitely did hear about “liberaltarians” a few years ago, so the rot had clearly taken root then.

      June 10, 2016 at 3:19 pm

  12. I believe “this is ridiculous and a waste of the taxpayers money” is what the late Lawrence Auster called an unprincipled exception. Do you subscribe to any principles by which you could oppose this?

Aren’t commenters like Dan and Glengarry aware that liberals have produced brain MRI studies purporting to show that there are certain areas of the brain whose structure differs between male and female brains, and that male-to-female transsexuals have female brains, and female-to-male transsexuals have male brains? And that liberals have also produced statistical studies purporting to show that the incidence of suicide is lower in “transitioned” transsexuals than in non-transitioned, and therefore letting people transition is a public health measure? is right. “Science” the societal institution (as opposed to what you might think science should be in an ideal world) is firmly on the side of government-funded sex-change operations.

    June 10, 2016 at 12:27 am

    • “And that liberals have also produced statistical studies purporting to show that the incidence of suicide is lower in “transitioned” transsexuals than in non-transitioned, and therefore letting people transition is a public health measure?”

But who cares? Male trannies commit crime at the exact same rate as other men. (And a large part of how you can tell is that, if they didn’t, their enablers would be screaming it from the rooftops.) At some point, you have to decide that the safety of other people trumps the “right” of some dude to engage in his fetish.

Also, people who have conditions like bipolar disorder have very similar rates of suicide to trannies, but no one is saying that that means they should be indulged. Are we going to prescribe amphetamines to people in manic phases? Should we encourage anorectics to fast? Maybe let the paranoid schizophrenics believe that that the audience in that cinema is really out to get them and they should attack first?

      June 10, 2016 at 4:44 am

      • “Also, people who have conditions like bipolar disorder have very similar rates of suicide to trannies, but no one is saying that that means they should be indulged. Maybe let the paranoid schizophrenics believe that that the audience in that cinema is really out to get them and they should attack first?”

I hate to play devil’s advocate so much, but I don’t think you’re getting it. First of all, the liberal would say that scientifically, transsexuals aren’t delusional the way a schizophrenic person is, and thus it’s not a matter of “indulging” them–their belief that their gender identity is the opposite of their biological sex is real; they really are a person with a male brain trapped in a female body or vice-versa. Second, the conclusion of epidemiological studies has been that treating people with bipolar mania or schizophrenia (therapeutically, with effective medicine, not amphetamines) reduces the risk of suicide and violence, while indulging their delusions does not. So the liberal would say it’s not about indulging vs. not indulging someone’s delusions; it’s about what “works” to reduce harm–and that in the case of transsexuals, it’s proven that that means sex change operations (“gender reassignment surgery”) and hormones. They would say that by the same epidemiological data, therapeutic principles, and standards of evidence by which we medicate bipolar patients with mood stabilizers and schizophrenic patients with antipsychotics, and hospitalize them against their will when they’re a danger to themselves or others, we do sex change operations on transsexuals.

        June 10, 2016 at 10:39 am

      • Hermes, the next time you see a proud mother with her trans kid, or read an article with the words “female penises” in it, or while taking a leisurely whiz in the women’s bathroom, meditate on whether that is a motte-and-bailey argument.

(I don’t buy the details of the argument either.)

        June 10, 2016 at 4:22 pm

      • >>they really are a person with a male brain trapped in a female body or vice-versa.

That’s bullshit. It is hard for normal people to comprehend, but the men who cut off their genitals and parade around in a dress do so because they get a sexual thrill out if; one that doesn’t manifest itself in the genitals but in the brain. They are truly sick individuals.

        June 10, 2016 at 5:40 pm

    • If so, then these are men with feminine brains or women with masculine brains, that’s all. (But their brains are probably only feminine or masculine in certain respects and areas, though — I’ll bet feminine men are more likely to spend ten straight hours trying to figure out a conceptual problem than women are, and masculine women are more likely to spend lots of time looking at catalogues than men are). Well, I’m a human being with an Entish brain, and lots of you are human beings with Alien Intelligent Hive-buggish brains. Lots of the men in my neighborhoods have Pitbullish brains. Lots of the women have Viperish brains. There could be a lot of government-funded surgeries getting underway.

      June 10, 2016 at 8:10 am

    • I oppose this from the principle that health insurance should only pay for things you MUST have, as a medical necessity, not things you WANT to have. Sex change is basically a form of cosmetic surgery, and if you want that, fuck you, pay for it yourself.

      June 10, 2016 at 8:15 am

    • fMRI is the last refuge of the scoundrel and “Science the institution” has no principles except more funding.

What are the actual suicide rates before and after “transitioning”? What about those who “transition” multiple times?

By the way, do physicians require a brain scan or X-ray to detect and diagnose such developmental defects before recommending plastic surgery?

  14. I would either have a single payer system. It’s not perfect but ours is so complicated. The German system doesn’t look too bad either.

Just have a health tax that would go into the health fund that would be separate from all govt money. The tax would be a payroll tax and there could also be a a small health sales tax that would go into the fund.

    June 10, 2016 at 1:13 am

“Without commenting on the election itself, I think it’s disturbing the casual disdain that coastal elites (including many of my friends) have for Middle America. With 92 million Americans over the age of 16 out of work, declining median wages, rampant drug use, and hugely widening disparities in wealth between the 1% and the 99%, it’s not hard to see why policies favoring economic protectionism and restricted immigration are popular. Combine these with the doubling of the national debt in the past 8 years, which everyone on both sides is now casually ignoring, and America has enormous structural problems that cannot easily be tossed away with sneering allegations of racism. Regardless of who wins the election, without addressing these issues on a fundamental level, they will only grow in importance in the future.”
