The hundred thousand jihadists among us

According to the NY Times, there are “up to 10,000 F.B.I. terrorism investigations open at any given time.”

And remember that Omar was not an open investigation; although investigated twice, both times his investigation was closed.

This number reveals the scope of the problem. There are at least 100,000 sympathizers of jihadist Islam if you consider investigations that were closed and the likely fact that the majority of these people were smart enough not to publicly proclaim their support for jihad and attract the attention of the FBI in the first place.

Why have there been so few actual terrorist attacks if there are so many radical Islamists in the country? Because they are chicken. Because their lives are too comfortable to throw it away. Because the FBI has actually done a good job of preventing like-minded jihadists form getting together or from receiving instructions from outside of the country. But because of the principle of copycatism, after San Bernardino and Orlando, it’s inevitable that there will now be a lot more of these types of lone-wolf Islamist jihad incidents, and there’s a good chance there will be another one before the election in November.

Also, you can’t blame the FBI, at least not the low-level agents who actually do the real work, for failing to catch Omar before he went jihad. There are thousands and thousands of Omars out there and there isn’t a fraction of the manpower needed to have an agent assigned to follow around every one of them.

  1. They’re all extremists.

  2. There is considerable evidence that one of the main motivations for young Muslims to go to Syria or Somalia to become a jihad fighters is sex. ISIS promises fighters sex slaves and/or wives. Many of the young men that go to Syria do not have good paying jobs or any prospect for good paying jobs and feel they are unable to marry because of that. Islam frowns on sex outside of marriage. ISIS may use temporary marriages (ie marriage for a night or a few hours) to bless sex with sex slaves or prostitutes. When possible ISIS assigns wives to its fighters.

Young men who launch attacks like Orlando or San Bernardino are not doing it for the women. In fact both were married. The Orlando/San Bernardino attack requires a young man who is suicidal, which I think explains why they are rare compared to the number of young men that have gone to Syria or tried to go.

    • The Orlando shooter was married to an attractive woman.
The Fort Hood shooter was an accomplished man (psychiatrist), and in the US military.

There are going to be more people who break the mold as we go forward. Weak horse (US) and strong horse (Islam) and all that.

      • I think we’re living in age of false propaganda. You want to believe everything in the media, then go ahead. Some people can smell a big lie.

Remember Richard Martinez who lost his son from the Eliot Rodger shooting. The guy is full of it and he is a crisis actor with poor acting skills.

He looks pretty swell and upbeat in the video, despite “losing his son” from a shooting, just hours earlier.

  3. “…and there isn’t a fraction of the manpower needed to have an agent assigned to follow around every one of them.”

Maybe the FBI should abandon its hiring age maximum of 37. Solve the unemployment problem, too.

    • I saw a story about France’s situation, which said it takes 10 men to follow one jihadi suspect 24/7. The muslim ban makes sense.

      • Ban anyone who is seriously religious, whatever the religion. It’s a dangerous disorder: not only do sufferers hear voices, they are obligated to act on what their “god” tells them, no matter what the personal cost (“categoricity of religious commands”, B. Leiter, Why Tolerate Religion?, U. Chicago Press).

      • The book looks very interesting and I’ve ordered it on Amazon. It has nothing to do with what you are implying from it’s title. Here is an excerpt from what one reviews wrote:

‘The answer to the eponymous question of the book is that we ought to tolerate religion for the same reasons that we tolerate non-religion- all citizens have a right to express their claims of conscience. ‘

  4. Solution? According to the Obama administration, import MORE Omars or the ones here will get even madder at us.

    • That’s standard liberal logic that they’ve been using for decades regarding blacks. Cave in to their demands and handcuff the cops or they’ll get really mad and burn the cities to the ground.

    • This is what I call “the Pearl Harbor argument” among my friends, that liberals apply in many variations: If we react to what happened in Pearl Harbor, the Japanese will get even madder at us.

  5. The problem is that until the jihadi actually does something physical, the feds/cops can’t really do anything. What are they going to do, lock the jihadi up in jail for the rest of his life just because he made a terrorist threat? He can just say he wasn’t and they would have to let him go. Then he can be free to do what he was planning to do all along.

    June 15, 2016 at 2:31 pm

    • That should read “He can just say he was kidding and they would have to let him go. Then he can be free to do what he was planning to do all along.”

  6. Why have there been so few actual terrorist attacks if there are so many radical Islamists in the country?

I’ve always wondered this. I don’t know a thing about how to actually conduct a terrorist attack, but it just seems like it can’t be that hard for an intelligent person to carry out. I don’t understand why there aren’t more of them.

  7. Of course not. It would be ridiculous to think we could stop every potential violent crime. All we can do is keep the numbers down, keep it under control.

We still live in a less violent era than much of what came before. But some of the signs are ominous, like the reports coming out of Calais for example.

    • This is a tragedy. Poor people. What the hell is wrong with them? They should just let the Foreign Legion handle it.

  8. We’ve let in so many that we’re really in a tough spot now. It would only take 1,000 jihadists to basically shut this country down for a while, to basically make life as a POC-LGBTQ person unlivable. Yet as you say, there’s probably 100 times that. I expect this will be the summer of terror, with the only consolation being that at least it will help get Trump elected. We need to be vigilant!

  9. “Islam frowns on sex outside of marriage. ”

Another commentator called you on that, I’m just pointing out that this is not true.

Technically, there is provision for a “temporary marriage” for people who are hooking up just for a few hours. Of course, a man with sufficient reserves of wealth and sanity can get married to four wives at once and there has never been a problem with Muslim men of greater means maintaining harems.

If you are a man who is really interested in having sex with lots of women, Islam is a much, much better religion for this than Christianity. Christianity is probably the most anti-sex religion in the world. This is a major driver of the plot in Michael Michel Houellebecq’s “Submission”.
