    • They rarely are. But it’s been the most interesting one in 35 years.

      July 20, 2016 at 11:19 pm

  2. Ted Cruz just won the “biggest jackass of the century” award. He could directly quote Steve Sailer and Arthur Jensen in 2020 and I would still never vote for him.

    July 20, 2016 at 10:16 pm

  3. Top 3: Eric, Gingriches (pleasant surprise), Pence (also better than I expected)

Rough night otherwise, though, outside of the “headliner” talent, esp. for Cruz.

Really looking forward to Peter Thiel and Ivanka tomorrow.

  4. Pure treachery on the part of Cruz. Not as smart as he thinks he is. He is finished.

    July 21, 2016 at 12:02 am

    • No not nearly as smart. Either Trump wins and it’s a totally different Republican Party in 2020, or Trump loses and the Republican Party is irrelevant in 2020 (and all years after). Cruz had one card to play to have a political future and he threw it away.

      • Why are you so sure that if Trump loses the Republican party implodes? You can’t predict these things. If Trump loses there will still be a huge number of disenfranchised white voters who could coalesce under a better leader, and a few years of torture under Hillary. Did you read his foreign policy interview today? A friend who is very sympathetic to Trump wrote me that he can’t vote for the guy after reading it. It’s painfully stupid.

Agree w/you about Crazy Cruz, though.

        July 21, 2016 at 9:55 am

      • I’ve got a pretty good record on predictions. But on this, it’s not even much of a prediction, it’s just following the generic Republican/generic Democrat electoral college votes that each candidate starts off with. Every Presidential year, the generic Democrat starts off with more “safe” electoral votes. Hillary had 217 electoral votes the second she announced she was in the race last year. So it’s a harder and harder slog for Republicans. The reason? Demographics of course.

Imagine the new residents and voters after 4 years of a Hillary Presidency. I doubt Cruz would be able to keep his senate seat as Texas turns purple than blue, let alone have a serious shot for the Presidency.

        July 21, 2016 at 2:06 pm

      • @Mike, my point is that the white working class might one day bolt entirely from the Democratic party. They haven’t yet. They could, and then it would be a whole new ballgame. I admit that new parties don’t come along often but aren’t we due for one soon?

        July 21, 2016 at 3:15 pm

      • At this point, the white working class has mostly already bolted from the Democrats. Obama’s 2012 election strategy was explicitly to craft an electoral majority out of every group except the white working class, and it’s succeeded. Based on the Dem crossover votes during the primaries, most of of the remaining white working class has joined the Trump train. I suspect if they’re not on team GOP at this point, they’re not gettable. They are too far into Fishtown to bother voting. So I think the white working class vote that Trump has assembled is as good as it gets. Assuming Trump doesn’t improve the standard GOP take on non-whites, he already has to get 70% of the white vote, not just the working class, but the total white vote. Is it doable? I think yes it is, this year, if things work out. But in 2020 after 4 years of Hillary open borders it will be pretty much impossible.

    • As all the office holders who stayed away predicted what a dumpster fire Trump has made of this convention!

Every single night has been off message for them as they continue their stumbling parade of incompetence.

Trump approved the speech! If the idiotic NY delegation had shut their idiotic guido pie holes no one would have cared if Crux didnt technically say the ‘E’ word.

Instead they bray like idiots at the idea that people are being told to vote for candidates who will defend the Constitution and to “vote their conscience”. Cant have any of that! “Boo! Boo!” from the idiot New Yorkers.
Word is Trump’s ward heelers were out stirring up the delegation- great job you bully jobs another shot in the foot.

Cruz has correctly computed Trump is an irrelevancy after 2017.
The economy will tank in the mid terms and the tea party will bail us out against an unpopular HRC.

  5. Although I didn’t have the same visceral reaction of disgust at Cruz’s speech that many did, I have to confess that I don’t understand what his goal was. At some point you just have to (please excuse the prole vulgarity here) sh__ or get off the pot. Why give what was otherwise a fine speech and then not just actually endorse the party’s nominee? I assumed that because he was allowed to speak at the convention, Cruz WOULD endorse Trump formally. He got sarcastic with the New York delegation for booing him, but of course he could have turned the booing into instant cheers by saying “And let there be no misunderstanding of my position. Yes, we had a brutal primary season. But I’m a loyal Republican and I stand here to endorse our party’s nominee, Donald J. Trump.” I think I’m starting to understand why so many people hate Ted Cruz.

    July 21, 2016 at 12:06 am

    • Cruz could have given himself a 5 minute standing ovation by the entire arena and an important seat at the table under President Trump with an endorsement and he couldn’t get passed his own ego. Incredible really. And so completely blind to the moment in history.

      July 21, 2016 at 12:25 am

      • His speech was schizophrenic…

        1. He says building a wall is a good idea. He can kiss away any and all anti-Trump Democrats he might have courted. He also cannot court Independents who are wary of Trump.

        2. The GOPe, led by Paul Ryan, has all but endorsed the view that while Trump is lousy, he’s better than Trump. Boehner thinks Cruz is Lucifer in the flesh, and everyone who has worked with Cruz agrees, so he could never court the GOPe anyway.

        3. So that leaves Republican voters. They will never support him, after insulting their choice. He can forget ever courting them.

If Cruz had endorsed Trump, he would have built ties with 2. and 3. If he had stayed home, he could still have nurtured ties with 1. and 2. But he managed to anger all but a handful of TruCons. I guess he win Utah in 2020/24!

        July 21, 2016 at 1:45 am

      • That was self-sabotage on the level of scorpions being carried across rivers.

        July 21, 2016 at 3:47 am

    • Ted and I probably have a lot of similar positions, but I still think he’s a scumbag, a traitor, and a waste of human potential. Ted combines the petulance of a child, the smarminess of a teenager, and all the masculine virtue of a eunuch.

      July 21, 2016 at 12:37 am

    • Cruz would have a better shot at the Oval if HRC was in power than having to primary Trump in 2020. It makes perfect sense from his point of view.

      July 21, 2016 at 1:23 am

      • No, it was stupid. Ted is 45. He would easily have a shot in 2024 (age 53) after two Trump or Hillary terms. Heck, he is still viable in 16 (age 61) years after two two-term Presidents (Trump then some other Dem). Except he shot himself in the foot up front and showed he was a petulant little rat.

        July 21, 2016 at 2:12 pm

    • Cruz talks about the constitution and his “principles”. But, the truth is, he would rather Trump lose so that he gets another shot in 2020. If Trump wins then he can’t run until 2024. That’s the only thing he really cares about.

      July 21, 2016 at 3:59 am

      • He’s setting himself up for a Clinton administration.

  6. Cruz is surrounded by die hard #NeverTrumpers who would turn on him were he to endorse Trump. Their presence around him has warped his judgement.

We’re better off. Cruz is a loser whose appeal is limited to Stupid Christians and TruCon vermin. If Trump doesn’t win, Cruz will be an afterthought in 2020.

  7. So I pieced together what happened. First, one of the CNN commentators observed that the boos were coming from the Trump floor whips, not the NY delegation. He referred to them as the guys in the yellow hats. The speech was approved by Trump days in advance and they knew he wasn’t going to endorse, so they staged the boos and the arrival of Trump to retaliate against Cruz for not endorsing him by making it seem like the crowd turned against him.

So why the fuck would he do this now?! Why piss off people like me who had resigned ourselves to supporting Trump? Shouldn’t he have all of his guns focused on Hillary right now instead of settling Republican party scores? Okay, there is the crooked Hillary tag, but where’s the imaginative flourish, the energy he used for attacking Republicans? It’s almost as if he’s still living in the primaries.

Two unsettling possibilities I can see are that 1) he really doesn’t know what he’s doing or 2) he isn’t really interested in winning because he has a deal with the Clintons.

    • Trump is an idiot and its typical of his kind of small ball personal feuding that a tiny minded local property developer would indulge in. Probably still carried a list of building inspectors that “like him” and “dont like him” in his back pocket”.

When not making a both of this whole convention by stealing 8 year old speeches, trotting out underware models as ‘star power’, and spending more time on stage than Hamlet’s ghost Trump has found time to ruminate that it wouldnt be so bad for Russia to take over in Turkey, a NATO ally. Trump is horrible.

You also have to like that Trump takes to twitter to complain about a speech that his guys approved. Yeesh. The book of this election is going to be called “No One Left to Brag To”

      • It would be awesome if Russia took over in Turkey! Turkey’s twice as evil as Russia. No, ten times as evil. Turks throw Balkan babies into the air and catch them on their bayonets. I read it in Dostoevsky! They fight with scimitars, like Orcs.

      • The personas of Trump’s children are a complete 360 opposite of his prole demeanor, which makes you wonder if his presidential campaign is a farce.

Trump Jr talked about how a guido made him value hard labor. Yeah, but that’s only half of his story. SWPLs don’t give a damn how hard proles work, as long as their privileges are bestowed upon them.

True Republican proles beget prole children.

Mike Pence daughter looks like a typical proless out of Middle America, and so does his wife, also seen here with his prolish son:

Trump’s daughter and his inlaw – Jared Kushner, your typical ManhattanJewish Elite, seen here with Pence and Trump’s WASPY heirs.

And Trump is the antithesis of prole. He once talked about how his children could turn into trashy “proles”, with all the wealth they’ve inherited.

        July 21, 2016 at 2:16 pm

      • I would love for Russia to take over Turkey. They would be a big improvement over ISIS enabler Erdogan. The fact that Trump is focused on fighting radical Islam instead of Russia (like the Neocons) is a huge plus to me.

      • Trump’s family from Manhattan vs Mike Pence family from Middle America

        An unlikely alliance is correct!

        July 21, 2016 at 3:02 pm

      • The Trump family literally towers over the Pences.

      • Anyone who is an optimist, perhaps also a delusional person, might think Trump is trying to align SWPLs with Proles.

        July 21, 2016 at 6:53 pm

    • “Late Wednesday night, a source within the Cruz team informed Daily Wire exclusively…”

You could have stopped reading right there, because it’s obvious that all that follows is a lie. Anonymous source. An “exclusive.” Uh huh. It’s pure spin, made up lies from a professional liar.

    • Your are delusional, especially with the still peddling of this ‘deal with Clinton’s’ garbage. Get on twitter. That’s where the real time news comes from now. The boos were organic and spread throughout the arena. I recall one twitter report from Jason Miller who was reporting from amongst the Alabama delegation the boos were real.

    • If you had been reading his Princeton roommate’s twitter feed, you wouldn’t be asking these questions. Cruz is a uniquely repellent combination of sociopath and psychopath. Allowing him to speak was probably the smartest thing Trump could do. If Cruz were running against Michelle Obama, I would vote for Michelle Obama. If he were running against Bill Ayers, I’d emigrate.

      July 21, 2016 at 9:58 am

      • If Cruz was running against Gilbert Gottfried, MaryK would have a hard time, choosing between the 2 clowns!

  8. Trump’s numbers took a big hit in the latest Rass poll, but this seems to be an artifact of an inexplicable upsurge in Obama’s popularity. Last week, when Trump was up by 7, Rass had Obama’s approval at 46. This week O’s approval is all the way up to 51.

There is no chance Trump can win with Obama’s approval at 51%. On Nov 4, to win Trump needs Obama’s approval at 48% or lower or else Hil will get the win.

  9. There is no way that the Democrats have a convention this fun & full of drama.
