Tim Kaine

We can still hope that Hillary will make a really dumb pick for VP, like a woman or a minority or someone who brings youth to the ticket.

But Virginia senator Tim Kaine is favored as the most likely pick. Kaine is a 58-year-old white man with gray hair and a JD from Harvard, so on the surface he appears to have the gravitas necessary in a vice president (although he has a slightly goofy look which may cut into his perceived gravitas). He will also help Hillary carry the important swing state of Virginia.

There’s no doubt that Kaine has a higher IQ than Pence, so this election continues a new and unfortunate tradition of Republicans being less intelligent than the Democrats they run against.

  1. Kaine would limit some of the white vote going to Trump that would otherwise go to Trump if Hillary chooses a woman or minority VP.

That’s no doubt the calculation the Clinton campaign is working out – how many white votes does Kaine help hold onto vs. how many extra nonwhite votes does a nonwhite VP help get.

  2. What Trump doesnt get is that elections are about having people actually show up to vote for you. Which doesnt just mean a popularity contest for the 20% who do like you. But then everything in Trump’s world is about fearful insecurity of his personal popularity.

You need to motivate your leaners to actually drive somewhere and vote- which means either love or fear. HRC is a wizened old white woman. How excited is a young/hispanic/black person supposed to be about voting for her? Not very.

Tim Kaine would be a great pick for Trump because he adds nothing to the ticket. Cory Booker would be frightening because then the blacks will see Booker as the heir apparent, and why not in 4 years instead of 8??? Then they would get their fondest wish of running a bunch of “from slavery to the whitehouse” memes.

Trump is old, weird and sleazy but at least he is matched in that by Hillary. Her going young and ‘vibrant’ is a matchup that will kill him.

    • Trump is old, weird and sleazy but at least he is matched in that by Hillary.

      He’s exceeded by her, actually.

I think Trump should negate her attack against him as ‘risky’, which is code for ‘crazy’, by going after her alcoholism and bizarre behavior around Secret Service personel.

“Crazy, drunken, liar” is a strong slogan to run against her crazy, drunken, lying, ass.

Gay rumors will kill Booker’s chances. Same with Castro.

Her going young and ‘vibrant’ is a matchup that will kill him (Trump).

Why doesn’t it kill her? She’s a hideous old White witch. Young and vibrant only highlights that fact.

Hillary the Hag is in trouble. Trump doesn’t need to be “flaw free”. He just needs to be NOT Hillary.

      He can do that.

      • ‘Gay rumors will kill Booker’s chances. ‘

At this point it would be a plus factor for the Press.

But no one could even name a girl friend BHO had for 6 long years and that didnt depress the black vote so Booker will have no trouble with the issue.

The Black interest in voting is very high- several points higher than whites. Unless the GOP finds a way to depress that they are in trouble. But that would require Donald to poll, be interested in data and yield models and generally pay attention. Which he has no intention of doing.

But in 2010 and 2014 the Dems couldnt turn out their case despite impassioned pleas from Barak. Without “their guy” on the ticket a large chunk of the Dem base cant be counted on to show up.

The media is going to love the image of a kindly old white woman and the friendly bald guy who worked his way up from poverty. An old white woman and an awkward terminal square Tim Kaine? They are going to have other things to do that day.

      • All that black interest in voting is fine and dandy since that’s all it is, interest. They don’t show up when it counts they’re just loud and proud before and after.

      • “Gay rumors will kill Booker’s chances.”

Those rumors are only outside the beltway. Inside, the rumors are that he has a white girlfriend up in Adams-Morgan. If THAT gets out, it will KILL him among black women, a demographic Hillary needs a tsunami turnout of. No way Booker gets the nod.

    • I think Cory Booker is a far more likely pick than Tim Kaine. Clinton needs to motivate Blacks. The number of white votes moved by Kaine is negligible.

  3. “a new and unfortunate tradition of Republicans being less intelligent than the Democrats they run against”

The even more unfortunate tradition is that “intelligent Democrats” are a complete fucking disaster when they’re in office.

  4. Romney was smarter than Obama, and Ryan is at least as smart as Biden. This isn’t a tradition, it’s a perception.

    • Romney has a JD and MBA from Harvard. He didn’t start out at lowly Occidental College or get a free ride due to race. And Obama contributed next to nothing to that Law Review he edited. He’s no dummy, thanks in large part to an educated white mother and a white upbringing, but let’s not put him in Romney’s class.

      • Right and don’t forget he was also a partner at Bain. It doesn’t take a genious IQ to work an investment banking or a PE job, but it’s effectively a scrimmage competition against other people of 150+ IQ, especially once you get to the upper echelons (there you have to synthesize IQ and social skills to work in tandem). Much harder than most jobs including Phd physicist (to a point). To discover something new in Physics you need a 160+ IQ, but there isn’t alot of pressure while doing it (it’s mostly intense enjoyment).

If Hillary chose Mumia Abu Jamal for VP, it’s almost certain that the NY Times, Washington Post, NPR, MSNBC etc. would hail the pick as “brilliant” and “courageous,”

  6. Speaking of Really Dumb picks, The CBC says that Hillary was interviewing Charlie Crist of Florida. Other news outlets have reported that Hillary will announce her pick in Florida.

If she meets did meet him, I guarantee she will pick him. The guy is a god at retail politics, such as shaking hands and kissing babies. But he’s a transparent phony on TV, which is what counts.

    • Didn’t that dude use to be a Republican? I remember him as the textbook RINO who eventually dropped the name part as well after being beaten by Rubio in the Florida Senate race. Trump > Rubio > Crist: hard to argue with the transitive property.

  7. When Kaine was a civil rights lawyer, even before he began his career in politics, he and his wife attended an all black Catholic Church in Richmond, VA that has a life-size black Jesus crucifix hanging inside of it. In the South, where churches are still very segregated even today, no normal white goes to a black church and vise versa. It’s not even a racist thing it’s just cultural. And we are talking in the 1980s. It is true that this could have been cynical political ambition (Richmond is majority black), but still. There is something up with this guy.

  8. If he’s smarter than Pence yet wants policies which are worse for the country, he must be more evil than Pence.

The problem for conservatives is that they are not allowed to speak the truth. It’s hard to sound smart if you can’t talk about HBD, because that’s an indispensable part of the argument.
