Does Facebook know your politics?

This article in the New York Times made me curious. I followed the instructions, and discovered that Facebook thinks I’m “Very Liberal.” I guess their algorithm doesn’t work very well.

  1. I’m sure that Google knows my politics, and also sure that Facebook does not, which is kind of deliberate on my part. I’m also curious about how much Feedly knows, and whether individual news sites that I subscribe to via Feedly can see that I subscribe to their RSS feed. Or is that anonymous? I looked on the Feedly help/FAQ section but couldn’t find any answers.

      You:

      New York City

      Jewish

      Lawyer

Don’t belong to or attend a religious institution

No wife and kids to support

      A renter with no mortgage?

      You like photography

Hell, that profile screams GAY liberal!!! LOL.

      • So if your candidate supports touchback Amnesty in an interview with Anderson Cooper does that make you a liberal?

I still haven’t figured out if your Trumpphobia is because you are a Hillbot or a GlennBeckCruzbot?

I suspect now maybe the latter.

A President Trump’s immigration positions are whatever Sen Jeff Sessions’ positions are.

But Candidate Trump has to remove from Hillary Clinton the image that he wants to send the mommy and grand-mommy of a tearful little brown girl BACK TO MEXICO!!!!

I know it’s hard for you to believe based on some of his actions and words that Trump wants to get elected…but he really does.

And we all know what that means.

      • Yeah its real hard to believe based on his frenetic actions and blurted out gaffs that he really wants to get elected. If he does want to get elected and think his behavior is a good strategy that is more frightening.

And you are conceding that Trump is running around lying about his immigration policy?

      • And you are conceding that Trump is running around lying about his immigration policy?

No. Work on your reading comprehension.

Donald Trump is one of the most hated men in the world. I think that hatred is irrational whether from the GOPe/BeckCruz bots or from the left but its there.

Trump has to try to deflect it or minimize it somehow.

        Read what I wrote:

      • This has got to be one of the dumbest tropes out there, criticizing socially conservative views by satirically advocating them in some kind of bizarre, corn-pone, intentionally grossly misseppeled approximation of hillbilly English. I see it all the time on left-wing message boards. Interesting that Lion has readers who share that mindset.

        Hermes

August 25, 2016 at EST pm

      • I’m probably the most socially conservative commenter here, Hermes. I’m anti-abortion, anti-feminist, pro-gentleman, pro-tradition, pro-serfdom-for-natural-serfs. It was Black English, not hillbilly English, that I was attempting. And I’m pretty sure I’ve spent more time listening to hillbilly music AND old blues, now that you mention it, than any once else who comments here. My great-great-grandfather had the highest possible rank in the Confederate army, and I’m proud of him.

  4. Who says the Trump campaign doesn’t have ground game: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/216898

Immigration wonks are currently concerned about Trump’s messaging on deportation and amnesty. It’s a bit weird since they all seem to claim that The Wall is more important than deportation anyway – I guess they’re afraid Trump might do amnesty before he builds the wall.

It’s possible that Trump is withholding his big clarifying speech on immigration until after Hillary’s speech on the Alt Right today, so he can use it as a response.

  7. Apparently it (incorrectly) thinks that I am a frequent international traveler with a long-distance relationship. As far as I can tell this is because I lived in a town (in Maryland) named after a German city.

Apparently my education is “List of artistic media”. Yep, that’s where I earned my STEM degrees, from good ol’ University of List of artistic media.

It has me down as conservative, so I clicked on it to see sample ads. There were none, though that is true for most of the categories.

  11. Why is Hillary giving a speech on the alt right? I don’t get it. I don’t think it is high risk for her but it provides 0 potential benefit. She is already up by over 4 in the Otis Index.

The only thing I can think of, and it just occurred to me right now, is that Trump’s pivot has them spooked and they now feel like they need to explicitly define him as a racist because he is no longer doing the job himself.

      No risk at all.

Link Trump to nazi/kkk/hate/hate/hate/fear/bigotry/racism/islamophobia/xenophobia/dangerous etc etc

Increase turn out among the terrifies AND shame White women into not voting for him!

What’s the downside? The alt right already thinks Hillary is a pro war, Wall street shill, liar, White man hating old hag.

      Which she is.

      • In Trump’s case, it might be that he is signaling to nice whites that he really cares for the AAs and that he is not a hater. I hope he is under no illusion of getting a large black turnout.

  12. Facebook has me as moderate, so I guess, according to the NYT, I should be receiving pro-Trump ads but all I see is anti-Trump ads – one in particular, over and over, of some cocky teenage biracial kid with an afro bragging that “we’ll be the generation that defeats Trump!” It doesn’t really matter because it’s a fake Facebook profile anyway; I only use it to meet young women seeking discreet interludes. LMFAO!

  15. I got the same.

The algorithm appears to be based on things you’ve “liked.” If they’re typically liked by liberals, you get tagged as liberal too.

So stop liking Orange is the New Black, HBO, and Manhattan eateries.

August 25, 2016 at EST pm

  19. When you see this sentence on Fox News website from Clinton speaking about Trump : “A man with a long history of racial discrimination, who traffics in dark conspiracy theories drawn from the pages of supermarket tabloids and the dark, far reaches of the Internet, should never run our government or command our military,” ,

–> you think that Scott Adams is right : she has completely embrassed persuasion techniques and may be very hard to win. About it is scary !!!

–> Scott Adams suppose Robert Cialdini , aka Godzilla, is her adviser. And despite Trump regaining momentum in polls recently, Adams is all the more pessimistic about Trump’s chances to win, that only by analysing cards at hands in the game of persuasion and disregarding policies as well as character.

Plato was right : Democracy is demagogy and plutocracy, sadly.

  21. Algorithms aren’t AI. They cannot read and see in depth. Its a series of keywords and click counts. It counts certain sites and use of keywords and uses a formula built into it to put you in one of just three categories. Three for all is not very specific, but with a two-party system, I suppose guys like Nate Silver and Karl Rove will pay for that data.

  22. I keep getting a “Sorry, something went wrong..we’re working on it” message. Very frustrating.

Because I posted about attending a Bernie Sanders rally on Facebook it will probably classify me as very liberal. The thing is I only liked Sanders because I thought he was non-establishment. He was always a distant second choice for me behind Trump. I updated my Sanders FB post and said if I would have known Sanders was going to endorse Hillary there is a 0% chance I would have attended his rally.

  25. In my experience no matter how “liberal” you are on economics, environment, drugs, certain social issues and foreign policy…

You are by default “fascist” if you believe in HBD and closed borders.

This because lower IQ people think in symmetry I suppose. For example, George HW Bush could not be in the Simpsons but also a horrific paedophile. And so on.

I think the trade union guys of the 60s, who I would probably be more aligned with than any low T neoconservative, neoliberal, liberretardarian or religious goon; would amazingly be labelled far right these days due to their un pc views on borders and race differences.

How very odd that the common mans economic interest (they never mention working class women, strange…not) now means nothing to the left. But tolerating cheap coolie labour does…Haha.

This is because the cuckold, extractor and SJW communities concentric circles have reached equilibrium around immigration. And it will be immigration that is their Waterloo. Like Brexit, like Austria and soon France, and then the Euro itself.

One of the guys on Unz posted (and I kind of agree):
If you want to invade the world and invite the world, you’re a centrist.
If you want to invade the world only, you’re a conservative.
If you want to invite the world only, you’re a liberal.
