Pre-vice-presidential debate

Mike Pence has more gravitas than Tim Kaine. It reminds me of the matchup in 1988 when Lloyd Bentsen had a lot more gravitas than Dan Quayle.

But the moderators will surely be out to get Pence.

  1. his convention speech was a lot better, but his LSAT was a lot worse…i assume. it’s dramatic sense vs IQ.

  2. I think this debate will be more important for Tim Kaine than Mike Pence. The vast majority of people consider Pence to be a perfectly acceptable back up for Trump, and Pence almost always comes off as a decent, respectful gentleman. Trump might be 70, but no one is worried about his health.

In contrast, Hillary’s health issues are emerging as a growing concern for more and more people. Similarly, even if she wins, she will have almost no political capital after the email scandal. More than a few Democrats wonder if she won’t resign in office for any number of reasons.

In short, no one is worried about Pence being in charge, and see it as unlikely that he will be President anyway. Conversely, people are wondering if Tim Kaine will have to take up the reins sooner or later.

    • Glass 90% full: the debate introduces Pence to the Nation. He looks good.

      Trumps drops out.

      • In general, Mike Pence is more likable the more you see and listen to him. A lot of Trump supporters were worried that he would dilute Trump’s message, but he’s stayed loyal and true to Trump, while not reneging on his gentlemanly demeanor.

Pence definitely couldn’t run the Trump campaign by himself – that’s where you and I will disagree – but if President Trump were assassinated by BLM, you could reasonably expect Pence to carry on the work, even if he stayed away from Trump’s firebrand rhetoric.

(If you can’t tell, I like Trump’s proposals but dislike his personality, so I’m fond of Pence.)

The problem with Tim Kaine is that he doesn’t do much for Hillary, other than secure Virginia (though to be fair, that is a big deal). His mannerisms are so goofy, try hard and beta that I often cringe while watching him. (He has more gravitas than Gary Johnson, at least.) Rightists don’t like him because he was a Catholic Marxist weirdo in Honduras. Leftists don’t like him because he subsequently became a Wall Street puppet once he grew up. His message amounts to little more than RACISM IS BAD.

So the problem is that most people can imagine Mike Pence taking charge if Trump dies or gets impeached, but no one is worried about that. In contrast, it’s hard to imagine Tim Kaine leading the country or having his own distinct base of support if Hillary’s declining health or ongoing scandals derail her altogether, and those concerns are becoming real.

Of course, I don’t think that VP debates make much of a difference at all, so I think that Pence’s middling intelligence and Kaine’s lack of presence mean that neither can really unseat the other anyway. It’s just that Kaine has more to gain from coming off well.

      • “The problem with Tim Kaine is that he doesn’t do much for Hillary, other than secure Virginia ”

He speaks Spanish. For Dems, that’s a big deal.

      • “He speaks Spanish. For Dems, that’s a big deal.”

White liberal (and cuckservative) pundits think that speaking Spanish will help attract Hispanic voters. In fact, Hispanics don’t really care if a non-Hispanic can speak Spanish. So to split the difference, I think that speaking Spanish will help you among power brokers, but it won’t really galvanize Hispanics.

In general, what Hispanics care about is getting free stuff. Yes, there are many Hispanics who do work hard, but they’re not going to turn down free things. Why wouldn’t they?

In contrast, blacks want free things, but they also want their leaders to give the impression that they value the black identity and understand their emotions. Trump was able to bump his support among blacks from 0% to 20% just by saying that he likes black culture, wants their suffering to go away, and asked for their votes.

  3. Drudge seems low energy lately. He’s been recycling all those Hound-dog Bill stories from the ’90s. He even disinterred the Whitewater story, not that I can blame him for feeling depressed.

  4. This debate would be saner to watch and less prole in nature. Clinton vs Trump are like 2 petulant candidates with no holds barred, that one finds in a WWF match.

Tim Kane is a condescending @ss with no street cred.

  5. Pense just needs to say this to Kaine over and over: “Listen you creepy pedo, the Guccifer leaks prove Hillary is a world class CRIMINAL.”

October 4, 2016 at EDT pm

  6. Anyone even watching this? Youd have to be a proper hardcore political junkie to stomach this gunk.

Pence must be the most boring looking human being ive ever seen. He must make himself cross eyed looking at a mirror.

Kaine is just going to keep banging on about the need for whites to prostrate themselves over barrels while the moderator minion asks absolutely no questions about hilary.

I suggest switching over to russia today. Putin was really animated the other day while we were building a train set talking about a good documentary on rerun on rt. It charts the greatness of president boris reagan as he asset stripped and dismantled the country under the direction of shameless plutocrats so that russia now has the same living standard as malaysia. Cant remember the name of it…something like “Free Enterprise works in Russia Too, Just Better”. Great stuff. 10/10.

Also putin told me he hacked the brain of hilary and will be uploading the files to napster soon. Cant wait. Apparently we finally get good hd images on humas great body. I must be honest and say i find huma abedin pretty fing hot. Shes defo my type. Apparently weiner doesnt cos hes always flashin his dong for his female twitter followers. Guess thats what you do in a sham marriage thou.

    • Of course Russia now has the same living standard as Malaysia. The children of the people who knew how to repair its machinery are patrolling the hills of Yehudah and installing HVAC (whatever that is) in Brooklyn. Russians are half-Mongol barbarians anyway. In fact, the smart part of the Russian DNA is Mongol. The country was founded by Vikings. Maybe the strongmen of Iceland will save it.

      • I wouldn’t dis Russians, they have many excellent qualities. Building a free and just society isn’t one of them.

  7. The despondency from Trump supporters is getting on my nerves. Trump did as well as anybody could have realistically hoped in his debate against Hillary. He looked Presidential, even if unpolished. Hillary won the debate which we knew would happen and she also got a bump from her win which, while we didn’t know it would happen, we probably should have expected.

Her bump is already wearing off. She is now up by only 1 point in the latest Rasmussen poll and Trump will be back ahead by debate 2. Debate 2 will be on ground where Trump is stronger, I doubt Trump will win but all he needs to do is hold her to a draw and he wins the election.

We are in very good shape.

I’m predicting that Trump wins the election by 1 point in the popular vote.

    • “Despondency”

Don’t you realize that most online Trump supporters are bipolar? If not bipolar, have BPD.

The election is unpredictable. I read that there are 47 million unregistered potential Trump voters. Think of that. It’s simply not true that all whites are registered.

  8. Frankly I wasn’t even planning to watch this one. Pence and Kaine seem more or less equivalent, but the moderators will be going after Pence; particularly since they know he’s gettable. Pence totally flubbed a This Week interview over the religious freedom (or let bakers ignore gay weddings) law that probably was the deciding factor in him not running for President.

  9. Kaine brings up Rosa Parks . God , this country is a joke..

  10. I’m sorry but Pence doesn’t have gravitas. He’s getting buggered on live tv by Tim Kaine of all people.

If anyone wants to see the difference between HLS and TTT – this is it. I’m sorry but pence got donkey f-ed.

October 4, 2016 at EDT pm

    • i only a saw a snippet and pence sounded dumb, but with the voice of a televangelist…so really dumb.

    • You’re crazy: Kaine came off as a rude clown and a liar–when your body language and smiling lips don’t match your words (attacks), there is cognitive dissonance. People conclude “liar.”

Plus, he looks stupid and sounds like your bothersome little bother, always frenzied.

Pence sounded and looked like a put-together, solid uncle, dad, older brother who’d protect you.

Women like Pence too (protective, solid and strong with an understanding voice.)
