After the debate

The mainstream media is mad at Trump for not prostrating himself before them. If he actually did that, they would have stomped on him.

Instead Trump came out gunning for Hillary on Bill’s mistreatment of women, on her emails, on the Wikileaks revelations about her speeches. Trump ably defended himself on his taxes.

Trump also didn’t let the moderators stomp all over him. He let them know several times when he felt they were being partisan. I think that’s something Trump needed to do.

In case some Trump supporters were worried that he’d let Pence run his show, we see that Trump is the man in charge. I approve of Trump restating what he said during the primary debates, that he supports a non-interventionist policy in the Middle East and supports letting our enemies fight each other.

Hillary didn’t have an apparent health problems this debate, but she is unable to control that huge grinning smirk which makes people hate her and will motivate people to come out to vote against her by voting for Trump.

The downside is that Trump really doesn’t have any policy on taxes that makes any sense, and “repeal and replace” Obamacare is meaningless when the only thing he’s offered as a replacement is a few right-wing talking points (which probably came from some staffer and not Trump himself who, during the primary campaign, occasionally said a few things that were in disagreement with conservative-Republican orthodoxy). However, undecided voters are for the most part not very bright and they didn’t understand any of that stuff.

Much better debate for Trump than the previous debate, and perhaps the most entertaining presidential debate in history.

  1. It was entertaining for sure, but I laughed more during Palin debate. That one was a riot. Trump slaughtered her. He is gonna win.

  3. Good point on “competition” not being a solution for pre-existing condition coverage. I thought the exact same thing when I heard the response.

    • The free market can, in fact, solve for pre-existing conditions. Ohio used to have something like this before Obamacare.

    • Bah. Libertarians have pointed out that insurance companies were prepared to cover pre-existing conditions en masse but were forbidden to do so by anti-trust.

Another phony issue the Left created with its own idiot legislation and view of free enterprise for simplistic minds…

  4. Initial reaction looks like he not only negated the pussy tape, but even gained ground vs. pre-tape.

I think he got into her head when he talked about putting her in prison when he wins.

  5. Trump fought hard. Hope it’s enough.

Kinda wish he’d mentioned borders, but oh well. He was a lot more coherent. Maybe Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon barred the door, paid Melania to go shopping, and forced him to undergo debate prep?

  6. Trump clearly won this debate, he lost the last one.

But what really got to me was how blatant CNN was in targeting Trump. It was so over the top I don’t even know what to say.

Hopefully the proles that vote will all pick up on this.

    did he do it?

did he know he should have done it?

Here I stand, I can do no other God help me. Amen.

  8. it’s The Red Lady vs

    The Orange Man.

as one famous orange man said…

    • sorry ignorati.

“the red lady” occurs in Revelations and is code for the roman church during the reformation.

      also sometimes translated “scarlet lady”.

    • God knows i have to explain my UN-obscurantism to “Liu” and other obscure immigrants…

and e asians are the MOST obscure…

      by far.

“orange man” means a northern ireland protestant, but in general it means a booster for the revolution whereby william of orange became king…The Glorious Revolution

so did the dutch finally win?

but hey are the tallest people on earth.

      let’s do it!

  9. I’ve been a 100% Trump supporter since he declared his candidacy – but that was painful for me to watch.

He seemed like he hadn’t slept much in a few nights and hadn’t prepared beyond resolving to come out swinging. It was fun to see him burn down the house in a Bullworth-stye way. But his fidgeting, pacing, grimacing, and lack of speaking in full sentences was off putting – would have liked to have seen him be more calm, alpha, clear, and in control.

    * There are great answers to each question they put to him. For example, that first question about being a role model for kids, he didn’t give lip service to answering the question, and it felt off putting. A great answer would have been, “Yes, America’s kids need role models, and I hope that I have the privilege of being the great role model that our kids deserve, showing presidential strength, caring, and leadership as we make America great again. But, more fundamental for our kids’ future, what comes first, is their *safety*. And with inner cities burning down, police officers being shot in the line of duty, and Islamic terrorist here and in Europe engaging in new attacks weekly, the Obama/Clinton regime has been putting our kids in mortal danger. When elected, I will …”

    * When she lied that the press had “fact-checked” him on being against the Iraq war, would have been great instead of just being testy and saying, “No they didn’t”, if he had calmly and factually said, “Yes, there was a recording of me having luke-warm feelings about it months before the war. But once the war started, I am on record repeatedly as saying it was a huge mistake. This is another example of the biased mainstream media speaking in half truths and outright lies.”

    * A rule of alpha – don’t complain, don’t whine like a victim – “Oh so it’s three against one”, “Oh so you let her be answer, but you won’t let me”. Of course they’re all against him. What he did in the primary debates and what he does at his rallies, though, was present like a winner – just stand up straight, smile, and forcefully speak from within his frame.

    * It was great that he recognized that the mods were enemies, and said as much. I would like liked him to have done so when Cooper said whatever he said about “That was assault, do you realize that Sir”. The whole way the questions was framed was illegitimate, and, yet again, shows that Media Matters, Think Progress, and the MSM are basically the same entity.

    * They miked and EQed him funny again so that he sniffled and exhaled loudly, which made him sounds rediclous. It was disappointing that, after they pulled that shit the last time, that his campaign would have had that checked out before the debate started.

No matter how the election goes, the white middle class anger that has been fueling Trumps’ campaign is not going anywhere, and may obviously get worse, with the sense that we have not been listened to and that the media has had a huge thumb on the scale for this election. And Hillary in this debate yet again shows no understanding or desire to reconcile with the anger, just more platitudes and shrill condemnation. Will be an interesting next month, and interesting next four years …

    • Wrong.

I’m with you. I like a cold, controlled steamroller.

But some commenters think that his edginess caught the angry mood of the times.

I agree with Lion, a man with Romney’s demeanor & Trump’s ideas would be ideal. But you can’t have it all.

  10. Great comment by Clinton that bullying in schools has gone up since Trump’s election campaign. Precious.

October 9, 2016 at EDT pm

  11. People keep talking about wanting a reserved, calm alpha, for the most part those are what’s known as betas. Ike is held up as the quintessential calm alpha but in reality he struggled with red faced rage for years. Trump is a showman and What A Show! This guy is a Lion. Obviously, he clearly grabbed the P* like a dog on a bone. Hillary froze twice by my count, called Abraham Lincoln a liar even, I mean, I hate Lincoln but that’s an admittedly extreme minority view. Even the audience seemed stunned by the Trumpening.

Trump didn’t lapse into his stream of conscious gibberish, he even spoke many times in as complete a sentence as he’s going to do! Yeah, he hasn’t thought much on health care along with nuclear weapons.

My favorite moments were Hillary’s face, and I’ve seen it often, over the hill, overweight career women not given deferential treatment for once in their fat lives with no recourse or HR department to run to. What happens happens but nobody can take the Beauty of this night away.

I wonder if Hillary will fantasize about Donald taking her 50 Shades of Grey style. I wonder if Paul Ryan will.

    • “Ike is held up as the quintessential calm alpha but in reality he struggled with red faced rage for years. ”

Robert E. Lee too, Sherman was crazy, and Grant was a shit-faced drunk, but in public, they had mastered what John Keegan called “The Mask of Command.” The calm face is a pose. Patton had a rehearsed war face, which George C. Scott literally put on for his great portrayal of the man – Patton’s family said it was spot on. That’s what we’re talking about.

“My favorite moments were Hillary’s face, and I’ve seen it often, over the hill, overweight career women not given deferential treatment for once in their fat lives with no recourse or HR department to run to”

      LOL, me too.

Lion – Trump had a presser with four of Clinton’s victims. What do you think of that? Hill, Bill & Chelsea had to ignore them all night. Chelsea was dressed in black. For a funeral?

  13. It’s never gonna be a fair fight. The moderators and media are never going to shoot the fair one with our Trumpster. He has to do about 130% of work for every 100% that Crooked Hillary has to do just to stay in the game and to keep fighting. Get used to it and start gauging everything with the skewed perspective of HBD awareness and healthy race aware cynicism (when I was a kid it was called street-smarts and looked at positively) and conduct your life accordingly. Bottom line…we were all raised that sticks and stones will break your bones and all that. I agree with it btw, but today’s youth including my own (had I not intervened) are raised in safe spaces where it never gets to sticks and stones because “names” bring lawsuits all by themselves. A nation of *ussies!

    Loving it.

  15. Trump is showing that R politicians need not be mealy mouthed pussy whipped pretty boy fag emulators like Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney. He’s bringing back the Patton male archetype.

October 10, 2016 at EDT am

    • He’s bringing back the Patton male archetype.

Patton read and wrote poetry. I can imagine him grabbing a pouilly-fuisse and reparteeing with John Kerry in French.

  17. Lincoln never deceived people according to Trump’s almost charming third-grade understanding of history.

October 10, 2016 at EDT am

    • According to Trump intuitive understanding of history a nation needs it’s heroes regardless of their true character. Only a tiny % of advanced thinkers understands the true nature of great people. Was an excellent move by Trump . What matters is to win the debate and to savge Clinton.

Replacing Columbus Day with Indigenous People Day is destroying the national history and character. Trump understand this in a natural manner. Trump is the best.

October 11, 2016 at EDT am

  18. I was disappointed. Trump still seems blustery and unfocused. Why bring up appointing a special prosecutor to investigate Clinton? What is he trying to do, shore up the anti-Hillary vote? At this point he needs to be winning over the undecideds, and that’s not likely to do it.

October 10, 2016 at EDT am

  19. At first I thought his disposition was odd. He seemed weirdly calm and quiet, like someone who was a little traumatized. But it grew on me as time went on, and eventually registered as self-discipline.

She also seemed more together. She didn’t trip over her own lines, even when they were obviously scripted, and there were no painful attempts at cuteness or humor.

The body language was striking. They are obviously quite physically different. I don’t think she looked weak or he looked strong, but I think she did look feminine and he looked masculine. I feel like both candidates have really doubled-down on their gender base and have a hard time even pretending to care about the other side.

She did a number of little politician tricks to connect with the question-askers that made her seem more human. Trump was a bit awkward about this, as when he lectured the Muslim woman about ISIS or when he went off about “the African Americans” to that black guy who hadn’t asked about them (did you notice the guy had a foreign accent? Hillary did, and made a point about immigrants from Ethiopia, which I thought was masterful).

I agree with Lion that Trump’s policies were generally fairly incoherent. But I think this debate, more than any other, was one that was going to be judged primarily on style, and from that perspective I think it was a solid tie.

In many ways, I think both candidates were saved by the unusual debate format, which I think had the net effect of keeping things more chill and organized than they probably would have otherwise been.

  20. Mr. Sniffles (aka the Grumpy Trump) went full assault on Chairwoman Mao last night and butchered her.

Why do they always invite the most passionless attendees for these townhall debates? There was hardly anyone with an ounce of enthusiasm. And it’s worse, when you have a crowd from St Louis, Midwest. The citizens of Middle America are atrocious. I would have expect more NAMs among the audience.

  21. Trump decimated Hillary. He nuked her. Only a total idiot or a Soros shill could say anything else.
