Weiner to the rescue?

If Weiner’s phone contains copies of classified emails that HRC deleted from her own server after she received the subpoena, this could change the election! We can only hope.

  1. God Emperor TRUMP has some truly prophetic tweets from last year basically predicting exactly that this would happen. What a time to be alive!

        Of course!

Who would be foolish enough to base their vote on “insignificant” doubts such as whether Hillary Clinton might be so ill that she could drop dead at any moment, or if she has broken multiple Federal security statutes.

        1. You are subhuman scum

        2. Trump was going to win with or without this FBI stuff. At worst, Trump gets a good media cycle out of this, at best, there is really something to these allegations and it costs Crooked Hillary another 3 or 4 points. As of now Crooked Hillary is up but an insignificant 0.2% in the APA polling average, with about 12.5% undecided, and that is using voter models that may well overestimate Dem turnout.

My prediction of a 1 point Trump victory in the popular vote looks pretty good right now.

        1. I said Trump was going to win anyway. I predicted he would win the popular vote by 1 point and that is still my prediction. I do not anticipate this new/old scandal having a big impact on the race. I base my prediction on my reading of the APA polling index. If the APA index changes, I will change my prediction accordingly. I make no prediction about the electoral college.

        2. *IF* there is indeed something to this newest email stuff and it can be traced back to Hillary before the election, it will cost her an additional 3 or 4 points, so Trump will end up winning 4 or 5 points instead of 1.

        3. You are subhuman NeverTrump scum.

  3. It would be interesting to view apoplexy of the left wing.

Already Krugman is fuming like a crazy person.

The problem is that they need a person or event to amplify this. The debates are over and Trump always has his hair on fire so no one is going to pay attention. It needs someone high profile like Romney or Bush to bring this center stage but they are not going to do that while there is a legal proceeding. Likewise I cant see Ryan holding some kind of symbolic vote on this. Hillary is bluffing right now and demanding details get released- only if that happens do I think we get real traction. Esp if there is some connection to Weiner’s sexting. Thats too good for the press to ignorr.

Either way I bet the journolist email boxes are full this weekend. Time for the next Trump scandal.

Tim Kaine and the Dems are already all over the airwaves demanding details. Are they really going to be able to walk that back when there are hearings scheduled?

And gaming this out, I dont see any reason why Comey would push this if it was a marginal case. He could easily have delayed this. Weiner, know to be indiscreet, must really have laid a trail that was hot enough that Comey couldnt possibly look the other way.

Not enough to afford luxuries like two separate laptops. Especially not with a tiny baby.

        owentt

        October 29, 2016 at 6:13 am

      • The NY Times framed their front page article for Hillary blatantly, but has this nugget:

“A senior law enforcement official said that tens of thousands of emails belonging to Ms. Abedin were on Mr. Weiner’s laptop, which the F.B.I. had obtained as part of its investigation into Mr. Weiner. About a month ago, a person familiar with the investigation said, F.B.I. agents seized the laptop as well as Mr. Weiner’s iPad and cellphone.”

The emails were NOT on a shared laptop, they were on HIS laptop. That makes this much much worse. WTF were her emails doing on HIS laptop? Did Huma think they wouldn’t look on his laptop? What a dope!

Lion is right that the timeline is crucially important – how many of those emails were stored after the subpoena? But the fact that they were stored there at all is also important.

Still, it appears they’re going to get away with it just like they always do. Their lead in the polls is probably insurmountable and the media is on their side. Once they’re in power, all their troubles with Justice will evaporate under their own appointees.

That isn’t very esoteric. People understand that very well and that’s the angle that needs to be hammered on again and again. Anyone wrapped up in this many scandals besides Hillary Clinton would’ve been in jail multiple times over. The fact that she’s skirted around even being investigated is a damning indictment of the business-as-usual back scratching in Washington.

      • Also, these rules she broke aren’t minor, like going 77 in a 65. As Sec of State her job is to defend America’s security, and using a private server and letting known irresponsible shits like Weiner close to classified information dangerously compromises America’s security. Hilary talks all the time about how Russia is a menace, but who is the one person in America who did the most to make our secret info vulnerable to Russian hackers? Hilary herself! This scandal shows Hilary could not care less about the duties of her job, and the job she wants has very similar duties.

  14. I just wagered about $1,000 on Trump winning, via various UK/Euro betting sites. The odds of the various sites averaged about 4 to 1 (down from 5 or 6 to 1 last week), so I stand to win about $4,000 if Trump wins. I figured it’s good to put one’s money where one’s mouth is (even if that mouth only speaks on deplorable hate-blogs), plus a thousand bucks isn’t too much to lose. I encourage others to do the same. I’m pretty confident (though not stupidly so) that he will win, and that the polls are massively underestimating the shy-Trump-voter effect. I don’t think these new Hillary/Weiner revelations will tilt the balance either way, though of course it’s generally good news for Trump. I think that voters made up their minds months ago, and that anyone who’s still “undecided” is either a secret Trump supporter or just a dropout/burnout who won’t be voting anyway.

  15. This is an FBI investigation. No more information at all is going to come out before Hillary’s inauguration. It takes them months to process new evidence there.

It took years for them to immunize everyone and destroy all the evidence the first time so they could announce they weren’t going to prosecute. The Obama Justice Department isn’t going to rush this along any faster.

This one announcement is all we’re going to get. And it’s coming out on a holiday weekend. It won’t move the polls much and Trump has 5-6 points to make up in polling averages. Get your Hillary inauguration day pennants ready, because She’s ready for America.

    owentt

    October 29, 2016 at 6:17 am

    • Yeah I think the actual effect of this is minimal. We’ve probably already got all the information we’re going to get on this. My guess is this Comey’s last chance to salvage his ruined reputation (and that of the FBI’s). But I don’t think this investigation is going anywhere. If Trump wins, the Justice Department will shut down the investigation and destroy all the evidence before January, and if Hillary wins, they will probably quietly close the case and destroy all evidence months from now, when everyone has forgotten about this.

    • 1. The polling averages are rigged. The ABC tracking poll has gone from +12% Hillary to +2% Hillary just this week. That is obvious rigging. USC, PPD, IBD and Gravis have been right all along. Trump’s USC numbers are exploding like Weiner after getting a text from a 15 year old girl. The other polls will follow shortly.

      2. In every state that has in person early voting, the D lead is dropping on a daily basis. This indicates that the Hil machine got her voters out early but can’t sustain it because there is no enthusiasm for her.

      3. Barring a Hillary collapse, Crooked Hillary looks likely to carry NV and CO. Her margins in NV are declining but are very close to what Obama’s were in early voting in 2012. Things look a little better for Trump in CO absentee ballots but the CO polls look worse than the Nevada ones so I think CO is out as well.

      Otis the Sweaty

      October 29, 2016 at 10:05 am

      • NV is horrifying. I’d really love to see him doing much better than Obama there. And CO is a heart-breaker. What is his path now? He is not going to win PA. The makeup of the independent vote is the most difficult to discern (is it simply comprised mostly of Hispanics? Or whites who lean conservative?).

I can’t believe people are saying this won’t move the needle. It gives Trump an excellent closing argument. If he shuts the hell up for the next few days – and lets the press speculate – he can hammer this point in the final few days (“criminal” “probe” “FBI”).

I know early voting is already showing significant trends, but these revelations come at the perfect time to blunt Hillary’s advantage and give Trump-leaners a reason to pull the lever.

        gothamette

        October 29, 2016 at 4:45 pm

      • Microsoft Outlook creates a PST file (.pst extension) that contains all of your files locally on your machine. Even client/server emails on corporate networks maintain local PST files.

A client/server system can specify the size of the pst file and delete any emails above the limit, but people usually just create new pst files while saving the old. PST files can hold roughly 25 gb of data…maybe more depending on the version of office. A typical corporate computer can contain lots of very sensitive data.

Microsoft Outlook is basically an Access database. Databases are geared toward data recovery so it is not easy to delete emails in an unrecoverable way. Sure, there is a “compact” feature, but that is not necessarily a delete.

So, all a hacker has to do is download all of your pst files, mount them in an Access database, or something like an Oracle or SQL database, and then attach a web front. SQL statements will make the entire database fully searchable. That is what Wikileaks is doing.
