Romney the traitor

I believe that Romney is much more of the political leader of the Mormons than people realize. Trump doing poorly, for a Republican, in Utah and also in neighboring states with a large Mormon minority (Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Idaho) is not about Trump so much as it’s about Romney saying not to vote for him.

Without the Romney factor, I think that Mormons would have behaved like prole white Christians and supported Trump to a much greater extent.

  7. Your speaking out of your ass on this one. Trump was never going to get a lot of support among Mormons because he’s vulgar and crass. This rubs a lot of people the wrong way.
Now, I don’t view Evan McMullin as a reasonable option, but I know a lot of people who do, and they always describe their reasons for choosing him because he strikes them as an honorable and honest man.
In any event, if Romney is behind all of this, then it’s indirectly. He hasn’t formally endorsed anyone. In fact, I don’t see anything past July for “Mitt Romney Endorsement 2016” on Google.

  9. I think Leon is half right about Trump’s support in mormon states. Romney definitely holds sway and is suppressing support for Trump. But they’re kind of prudish anyway. So, even without Romney, they’d be put off by his behavior. Regardless, the #mormonmafia is definitely pushing a NeverTrump agenda. However, one shouldn’t confuse their prudish religosity for conservatism. Outside of sexual morality many have bought into the same pc crap as the mainstream has. The racist, bigot, homophobe, islamo-phobe epithets stick in the craw of the politically correct LDS leaders more than other religions. November 2, 2016 at 6:13 pm

      • Mormonism is slowly dying off because of the internet. They can’t hold on to their younger folks because they no longer operate in a world where the church can control information received. When you had to go to the library to find a book explaining that Jos Smith was a pedophile con man (and that book if purchased had been stolen) few discovered the truth about the founders of their religion. Now it is all over the internet. They’ve been faking their membership numbers for years to give off ‘success’ PR but they count as a member anyone who ever steps foot into one of their facilities, even if only once.

The Mormon Church now operates simply as a mechanism to bond together people with a common history. Those that believe the nonsense tales (a 19th century historical fantasy originally written by a fellow named Spaulding interpolated with some Campbelite religious doctrine by a fellow named Sidney Rigdon) are dwindling just as the Scientologists are dwindling. There is no greater proof that the Republican Party as an organization is a failed operation than the fact that they allowed the nomination of a cult flake like Romney, the only good side being it indirectly allowed the arrival of the Goldon Don.

        November 3, 2016 at 9:10 am

      • The Mormons were doing fine before they were made to conform their doctrine to PC standards, several times during their existence.

They would look a lot different today if Protestant cucks hadn’t long ridden them in regard to their religious deviation from “Christianity”.

If they had been left to develop and practice their doctrine as they please, they’d be the most cohesive group of red pilled shit-lords in the USA today. As of now, they still retain such a core that isn’t advertised.

Current Mormon posturing is 90% due to being traumatized for 150-ish years, from the harassment and resultant need to pretend that they are just like every other Christian group. The Mormons put the most right-wing Church attending southerners to shame when left unmolested: and they do it with doctrine and thus don’t need to shout and spit about it. It’s ironic that it’s these very same border-wall protestants that have harassed Mormons into having to long pretend that they are something that they are not: namely universalist Christians who tend toward the Universalism that is enabling globalism.

At first they conformed for purposes of survival, and now they often behave much like an abused group.

In the future, an ironic tolerance window in the multiculturalist stew may allow for a somewhat truer Mormon identity to recover. As of now, the mainstream face will continue to praise Jesus and give as much lip service as they need to give to the globalist project in order to ensure their survival. Even in doing this, they are frequent targets. imagine what it would be like for them if they didn’t conform to a major doctrine other than what they can not get around: for example gay marriage.

Most converts won’t make it due to the core doctrinal necessity of leading a virtuous life. Tack on tithing, participation pressure, missions, no drinking or drugs, etc. and it means that, thankfully for the Mormons, only people with better habits will stick around. They have a built-in prole and degenerate filters, which makes their socialist practices feasible. Their largest issue is their members with liberal ideas who either resent the religion, for some reason, or who do not understand it. The Church purges these people when possible.

The Church’s problem isn’t numbers and more than the Jews have a numbers problem. The issue is retaining quality of membership, which they are currently doing relatively well with within the USA for the most part. But, as I implied, don’t look at who converts but who stays. How congregations in other parts of the world operate without White Mormon supervision is largely out of their control.

Many Mormons will vote for a Mormon who runs, like Romney, mostly regardless of his other attributes. But, to be fair, the competition in 2012 left them with no other choice. McMullin, or whatever his name is, will get less Utah votes than is being hyped. Mormons are tribal, not politically retarded. Most of the time they lead one of the consistently reddest states in the Union.

Lion, on the previous thread in response to my grumbling that the election of Trump would be insignificant because he’s not going to initiate genuinely anti-Progressive stuff (although gratifying because it would annoy loathsome people) you pointed out that Trump will restrict immigration. That is true; I acknowledge this. But … how many people who post here have sons who have not yet grown up? And how many can honestly tell their sons, “When you grow up you’ll have a job and a wife and children of your own”? That life-plan has been destroyed. Our sons have nothing to look forward to. I don’t even if give a fug if my son (who of course is not in my “primary physical custody”) graduates from high school, because what does it fuggin matter whether he does or not? He has no future, nothing to look forward to. And Trump’s restriction of immigration won’t change that, because the Witches, and the Warlocks behind the Witches, will still rule America, and the Goblins will rule the streets, and the Hobbits will cower in their holes, solitary, hopeless, and ashamed.

  14. NeoGaf update: They have really turned on Nate Silver, although they insist it is not (mainly) because of his increasing bullishness on Trump but rather because of him being too much of a pundit. I agree with them that Nate is an arrogant hack fraud and a lot of stuff he says is probably motivated by a desire for clicks, but the increasingly murderous anger they are showing towards him is, in my opinion, because he is bringing the bad news. Also, while I think that Nate basically sucks I think his model is basically okay, even though I certainly don’t go by it. I also think it is the most realistic polling model available given the massive variability/uncertainty in this election’s polling.

Obama’s aggressive NC push along with the media downgrading Hil’s NC odds are starting to dent their confidence. They aren’t worried about the declining black vote, however, because they are insisting that the black vote is actually *increasing* in comparison to 2012. You read that right, they are seriously claiming that Hillary is bringing out more black voters than did Obama. This despite the evidence that the black vote is down massively in NC and FL.

If Trump doesn’t win, then this country is full of idiots at this point, especially among white people.

80 plus percent of whites should vote for Trump. I’ll bet Trump gets 75% of the white male vote.

We can blame white women if Trump loses. He might only get 50% of them.

  16. Okay, I’ve figured out the math that they are using on NeoGaf to say that black turnout is up: black percentage of early votes is way down in both NC and FL but the absolute numbers of black voters are up. Well, in NC at least, I think they are maybe even down in absolute numbers in FL.

The numbers are up though because more people are doing early voting this year, the fact that they are way down as a percentage is still a terrible sign for the Dems.

    • but the absolute numbers of black voters are up. Well, in NC at least, I think they are maybe even down in absolute numbers in FL.

They’re very wrong: Proportion matters, not absolute votes. In 2012 the black percentage of the electorate was unusually high (13% instead of their normal 10-11%) and they voted 95-97% for Obama. If they were 11% of all voters in 2012 Romney’s popular vote loss might have been narrow enough that he could have eked out an electoral vote win.

  18. Having met a lot of Mormons over my lifetime and driven through the state, I’ve come to admire the Mormons in general. Utah is one of the few Red states that buck the trends of lower economic development and human development throughout the US compared to the Blue States.

Mitt Romney is also very typical of a lot of Mormons, educated, good natured, trustworthy. His ethos is more indicative of Mormons in general. Their history is marked my religious persecution and so with that memory, and better education, they tend to value religious freedom and tolerance. They, unlike Evangelicals, tend to do what they preach. If I was poor, I would want to live among the Mormons. So yeah, your premise is wrong, Mitt Romney is prominent, but without him, another leader would have spoken out against the Clan endorsed Trump. Mormon’s still sway Repub though, and it doesn’t seem HRC will carry Utah.

Mormons actually remind me of 1950s America. While the nation as a whole has become less religious and working class whites have followed the same downwardly mobile trajectory as African Americans, the Mormons have not followed suit.. I don’t have too much data specific to Mormons, but the state of Utah is an anomaly relative to what’s typical of GOP governance (Ala Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama)

      • Especially the Haredim — The Ashkenazim evolved out of the backwaters of Europe and never had a golden age like the Sephardim in Spain who were in fewer in numbers by comparison, hence the reason why much of Judaism sucks.

      • @ JS – The Ashkenazi golden age was the era of Jewish toleration and subsequent emancipation in Germany and Austria-Hungary beginning in the early 1800’s and lasting until WWI. Judaism’s less palatable features have nothing to do with Ashkenazim at all, much less whether the Ashkenazim ever had a golden age. They have much more to do with the legalistic nature of Judaism embodied in the Talmud, which is adhered to by Sephardim and Mizrahim as well as Ashkenazim. Social stigma related to being (formerly) subjugated and still a small minority religion also plays a role.

    • I’ve always wondered why there are Jews who would be in the same coalition as the Klan, Neonazis and Anti-Semites galore.

Galore? It’s only “galore” in the minds of people who hate the Trump agenda and it’s supporters.

Like the kind of people who actually believe Trump supporters burned a black church and then wrote Vote Trump on the side of it.

      • Black suspect = Clinton conspiracy
Right wing logic = just blame Hillary (facts be damn)
A modern day Salem witch trial. While behind the scene, the con man enriches himself.

How am I wrong when I say Anti semites, Neo-nazis, White Nationalist are ‘bigly’ supporters of the Orange one? Don the Con is the reason David Duke is running for congress. I can get his word directly from the horses mouth. No conspiracy required. KKK endorsement is on their official paper (Did Hillary manipulate the clan too? going by your logic?)

I am on the right side of history. Trumpers and Trump is the 21st Century National Socialism. So take off that American flag and put on the Swastika, lets be honest with yourself. You people don’t want democracy, you don’t want justice, or any freedoms this country stand for. You want a white male brotherhood. You want a despot that will jail journalist, deport mexicans, keep women in their place (the kitchen), a fairy tale in other words; that will never happen. All you’ll do is weaken America. Make America Weak Again should be your motto.

I don’t know anything about the Church incident, law enforcement will have to do their job on that.

  20. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/09/28/books/hitler-ascent-volker-ullrich.html?utm_source=pocket&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=pockethits&_r=0&referer=https://getpocket.com/

Hitler was known, among colleagues, for a “bottomless mendacity” that would later be magnified by a slick propaganda machine that used the latest technology (radio, gramophone records, film) to spread his message. A former finance minister wrote that Hitler “was so thoroughly untruthful that he could no longer recognize the difference between lies and truth” and editors of one edition of “Mein Kampf” described it as a “swamp of lies, distortions, innuendoes, half-truths and real facts.”

Hitler was an effective orator and actor, Mr. Ullrich reminds readers, adept at assuming various masks and feeding off the energy of his audiences. Although he concealed his anti-Semitism beneath a “mask of moderation” when trying to win the support of the socially liberal middle classes, he specialized in big, theatrical rallies staged with spectacular elements borrowed from the circus. Here, “Hitler adapted the content of his speeches to suit the tastes of his lower-middle-class, nationalist-conservative, ethnic-chauvinist and anti-Semitic listeners,” Mr. Ullrich writes. He peppered his speeches with coarse phrases and put-downs of hecklers. Even as he fomented chaos by playing to crowds’ fears and resentments, he offered himself as the visionary leader who could restore law and order.

    See any parallels?

Yes Lion. Don the con is not Hitler. But he sells the same snake oil for the times gone past. Trumpers think there is somehow an upside to voting for evil. You underestimate how far down the we have yet to go.

And Rifle, I’m a Hillary supporter. I tend to argue towards logic and rationality. But Trumpers have no use for facts that doesn’t fit into the right wing conspiracy theories. You’ve drank the Rightwing kool-aid of Fox, Right wing hate radio, Breithart.

Tell a lie long enough and often enough, it becomes the truth.

    • Trump is not evil, Trump is not Hitler. Trump is a populist. All Hitlers are populists but not all populists are Hitler.

    • Luke,

Stating that you “tend to argue toward” logic and rationality after you state that “Trumpers think that there is an upside voting for evil” serves to imply that getting rid of our eugenics programs was one of the worst decisions that the West ever made.

You being concerned with Hitler’s antisemitism, as you peruse this website and claim to be a Hillary supporter probably adds up to you being a scared ethnonationlist Jewish person or a Christian Zionist. Take a page from Lion, grab whatever balls that you have left, and learn to be politically consistent. Unless you have something significantly bad to say about Israel. If that’s the case, take it up with Lion. If not, then you rightly deserve to choke on your hypocrisy.

  22. If Trump chooses Romni, many of us will feel as though we are being betrayed and insulted. We really did choose Trump because he was our voice.. That would be as bad as when the republicans won the mid elections in the land slide and then they betrayed us by not keeping their promises. I knew the democrat leaders were our enemies, but realized the republicans were only pretending to be for the people. I pray Trump does not become one of those traitors because he thinks he knows better as well.
