  1. I’m pretty sure that is only true in NY. I don’t think SWPLers care in other cities. A friend of mine ran the NYC marathon once in an incredibly fast time and decided that it was possibly the stupidest thing he had ever done. It’s strange that people don’t realize that marathons are not good for you. Maybe do it once to say you could do it, but that’s about it. Any more is stupid.

    • Its awful, my dad has run 7 or 8 in his life and he can barely walk these days with a hernia and bad back. I genuinely think bodybuilders like Arnold come out much better in old age as long as they don’t juice – Ahnold is probably on TRT and I would put money on coronary heart disease being his cause of death when he dies.

  3. Interesting observation Lion. I’d go further and say SWPLs like sports with no physical competition.

Hiking, rowing, skiiing, frisbee, cycling, swimming and so on.

Going back to my office drone days I always hated those charity marathon runner cases humble-bragging about it and setting up donation pages and email announcements to virtue signal their affection for African magical babies. Marathon running/training is the no. 1 way for a man to drop 1 or 2 points in Sexual Market Value. The lean, low muscle look is actually worse than overweight stocky look from what girls tell me.

I know people get addicted to the endorphin rush sometimes. The treadmill can be a real pick me up, I admit.

Apropos of that, runners tend to be disproportionately single. At least that’s why I’ve heard.

      • “runners tend to be disproportionately single”

Because married men are too busy to have time to train for a marathon.

    • As an overweight, stocky guy, i can tell you that’s absolutely not true lol. Maybe it’s a generational thing but women in their 20s almost unanimously prefer skinny guys.

They still find soccer too boring to make it their #1 sporting event?

    • Soccer is a sport the SWPLs want to like because it’s European.

      • So true. SWPLs hate America. But SWPLs in Europe hate their countries too.

JS wants to be a SWPL so bad. So he badmouths America too. But everyone knows he’s a poser.🙂

It’s not only European, it’s loved in many parts of the third world.

There’s nothing more exciting than watching a European team fight their opponent to a nil-nil game.

SWProLes badmouth America and they live there, what hypocrites!

And, ironically, soccer is prole as hell over there. In Europe playing rugby is a higher status signal.

  7. Not only does long distance running wreck your joints it damages your heart. The human body evolved for long distance walking and short sprints not long distance running. Jogging is just plain ignorant just like obsessive weightlifting is ignorant. And I say that as someone who used to do both. Now I walk 30 minutes a day and lift 30 minutes every other day. I consider that optimal exercise.

  8. That ship has sailed for me. I lost interest in marathons in college, when my then-girlfriend’s father explained he had to put tape over his nipples to prevent bleeding. “This is not for me,” I said to myself.

  9. “Will anyone die running it today?”

I hope they all die. I’d bet that, if surveyed, the runners would be voting for Clinton about 95 to 5. Marathon running is simply status signalling gone haywire.

There was some hilarious video made about a woman who ran a marathon and DIDN’T TELL ANYONE! I’m too lazy to look it up.

  10. I took the 5 AM ferry today to Staten Island to get to my teaching job on time; only a few runners on board; lots of tired Black 20ish kids coming back from parties. Cops had to stand between two girls screaming at each other. Last year I took the 7AM ferry and the whole Manhattan side terminal was packed. It’s interesting how out-of-shape most of the runners looked. Marathon-running doesn’t develop muscle mass. It’s a Pride Parade — same feel as a religious procession, probably. The collective affirmation of individual achievement. it’s sort of nice, actually, that the SWPL Pride Parade involves painful goal-ward persistence. They should wear armbands with “SWPL” printed them in lightning-zigzag-letters.

  11. Seems like the date moves around some. The time I ran NYC (2009) it was on Nov 1st if I recall correctly.

I resisted putting 26.2 stickers on the cars for a long time, but the girls wanted to “pimp-out” the vehicle they drive to HS so I let them put one on the bumper. Yes, it is a Subaru–seemed like a safe, easy to drive car for our little new drivers.

  12. I wonder if the Ironman triathletes scoff at the marathoners.

I like hiking for the scenery. I wish I lived out west so I could do it more.

I have no desire to run. It’s too much pounding on the knees.

  13. I run one sub 7-minute mile every third day followed by six all out 100-yard wind sprints, then a brief stretch. I’m done in twenty minutes and feel like I had a killer workout. Much better and more effective them plodding along at a slow pace for endless miles. On the other days, I do 45 minutes of weight training and calisthenics, and 30 minutes on the spinner bike.

    • Yes, there is something appealing about an event that has its origins in ancient Greece. In my younger days, I used to dream of running one. Thirty years on, one of my hometown friends who kept the faith is up for his first (single) hip replacement. No more jogging for that boy!

And people do die in these things, just as the original marathon runner did. This lesson seems to have been lost on everyone, but word is starting to get out. Witness the comments here.

  17. I was on the x-country team sophomore year in high school. The coach had the team volunteer that year at the Boston Marathon. Two teammates and I got caught drinking beer at the party tents for the finishers rather than manning out water stations. The next day at practice the coach made us run killer windsprints.
