A prediction from 2012 come true

In February 2012 I wrote:

Romney is constantly criticized for being “uncomfortable” with his wealth, but I see that as one of his redeeming quality [sic]. If Donald Trump were running for president, when asked about his wealth he would use that as an opportunity to brag about how rich he is.

Indeed Trump did brag about how rich he is, and it was huge turn-off to the elites (along with a lot of other low-class Trump behavior) but it turns out that the proles found his low-class bragging to be much more authentic than Romney’s discomfort.

  1. Huey Long the Kingfish was openly ostentatious reasoning that the voters wanted to be led by sympathetic superiors as opposed to their equals. He was also despised by the elites.

    • A very interesting and complicated historical figure, Huey Long. Let’s hope that – God forbid – President TRUMP doesn’t meet the same fate that he did.

  2. Romney couldn’t afford Trump’s lifestyle even if he wanted to. Trump is 100 times richer than Romney.

    • Yeah but Romney seemed richer, or at least seemed more like a typical old money elite. Trump dealt with his wealth in exactly the right way to either neutralize it as an issue or even use it as an advantage.

  3. Maybe the PUA’s would say it’s a matter of not being congruent with one’s self. If much of your career is spent on a track to earn large sums of money, it’s weird if you come across as someone who doesn’t even like money. Like why the hell did you spend all that time working for it in the first place???

Just like the guy with gym muscles and tattoos that turns out to be clingy, deferential, and apologetic when you actually get to know him. It makes no sense to present yourself as a ZFG dick if you’re not actually going to behave that way.

  5. I think the reason Romney doesn’t like talking about his wealth is because he’s a vulture capitalist that buys up companies to scrap them and sell off their assets, killing American jobs. Trump on the other hand is a Builder who makes stuff and employs thousands of American workers with a living wage, so he can brag without fear of much criticism. Except from the Left, but they just HATE America don’t they?

    • The Romney vulture capitalist comment is just dumb. Bain Capital invested in AMC Theatres, Burger King, Canada Goose, Domino’s Pizza, Dunkin Donuts, Brookstone, and many others. Their goal was to make troubled businesses suffering under poor leadership profitable and thus increase the value of their investment. It’s called capitalism. Trump made money in real estate mostly. Neither approach to business is bad…unless you’re a communist.
