Finally figured out how to read LA Times without ads

The LA Times has updated its anti-adblock popup to defeat even the Brave Browser.

However, I finally found a simple workaround. Go into your Google Chrome settings and block JavaScript from working at the LA Times. Without JavaScript, the anti-adblock JavaScript just stops working!

(Without JavaScript, the site is missing some content that is post-loaded via AJAX calls, but it’s still better than having ads, and it also makes the site run a lot faster.)

  2. The LA Times had ads? Never realized that. Of course, I installed the NoScript add-on for my browser years ago.

    • I just blocked the ads in Brave.

Go to those three little dots/menu in the right corner of the page, left click and get to shields – site shields settings – block scripts.

      It worked here:

      • I mostly use Firefox but downloaded Brave after Leon mentioned it. I’ve only used for a couple of sites that gave me trouble in Firefox. So I haven’t played with any of the settings. Thanks for the tips.

  3. News sites seem to have become much more aggressive lately about ad-blockers.

  4. Just read Richard Spencer, the white nationalist got assaulted in public in Washington DC, sucker punched once maybe twice. Progressives who usually bleat on about the importance of peace and non-violence are reacting with glee on twitter. Whatever his inner views, Spencer’s public remarks are usually tactful and all things considered inoffensive. No idea about the attacker as of yet, but hoping he’s caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent. Clips and comments on twitter are disturbing.

    • Richard Spencer is a parasite leeching off the Anti-left movement.

      He’s a neo-nazi opportunist, a newer David Duke.

There are others on the Fake Right like Milo the Homo and others who need to go away.

The left wants them as poster boys of the right because they are a bad example. So does the establishment right and the neo-cons.

Here’s a subject worthy of a post: unknown and rediscovered NYC street photographers.

      • Richard Spencer or not, what readers here want from America is essentially no longer.

  5. Thanks!

    • If you want to inject Greco-Roman antiquity into North American politics — I’m think Prime Minister Justin Turdeu/Trudope of Canada is Archidamus II of Sparta during the Peloponnesian War, who invaded Athens and brought truce between the 2 city states.

JT would be this kind of person, who tries to bring a middle ground between the ensuing tensions over language that have been raging on for decades in Canada. Recently, he decided to piss off the Anglophones in Québec, by speaking in French, while visiting a region in the province, where they are somewhat of a majority.

President Trump-Dump on the other hand, would be Emperor Commodus during the final days of the Roman Republic in late antiquity. He was a bit paranoid and appointed non-mainstream Romans into his cabinet, often with hot flashes of rooting out corruption plaguing the empire.

  7. All you need to do is block this script, all others can be blocked:

  8. Or rather, needs to be ALLOWED, all others need to be blocked.

  9. Slightly O/T: NYT just published an article on “Prole Friendly Colleges”:

Elites need to give it to the proletariat, that America has some kind of saving grace, when it comes to higher education.

America’s greatest misnomer…there is no class when it comes to behavior, only income distribution.

    • You will realize how dumb American lemmings are, by the reading their comments, when they tell everyone to major in accounting and work for a big firm as an abused serf. And why do people need 4 years of bean counting at a college, when this type of work can be learned as an “apprentice” in the workplace? Again, it’s to further enrich the elites in whatever industrial complex they are presiding.
