Trump, going into the last weekend of February

My last several posts were about movies and books. Some readers really really want to talk about President Trump and don’t care about that cultural stuff. Please leave your Trump comments here.

  1. Trumpdates:
    1. Trump’s approval continues to be remarkably steady. He appears to have lost 2 approval points since Inauguration Day. It feels like after an intense 2 years of melee, both sides are finally digging in for the long fight. I expect things to move slower from here on out. What his actual approval rate is, we don’t know. Gallup has him at 43 amongst adults and Ras has him at 53 amongst likely voters. If 53 sounds high to you, remember that midterm voters are older and whiter than general election voters. My guess is that Trump’s support amongst likely 2020 general election voters is about 50/50.

    2. Trump is making good progress on the destruction of immigrant community. The bids for the wall have started, the ban is scheduled to be reinstated next week, there are bills in Congress to reduce legal immigration and curtail the H1b program, plans have been drawn up to hire another 10,000 DHS agents, Secure Communities is back and there are reports all over the country of mass deportations.

    3. Lots of despair on NeoGaf and amongst the Left generally. For most of the past month they had been deluding themselves that they were winning but there is increasing acceptance that Trump is in for the long haul and that his voters are sticking with him. The Left doesn’t think that they *can’t* win, and indeed they still expect to, but they no longer expect a lightning victory and are resigned to a long, drawn out war.

    4. On NeoGaf they were super pissed about Trump banning CNN, the NYT and other from Spicer’s latest press conference. A huge number of them were saying that such a move was unConstitutional.

    5. The strain from the deportations are really starting to show at NeoGaf. A large number of them are either illegals, or have illegal family and friends. Many are reporting being afraid to show up to work and one poster there said he no longer wonders if they will come for his family, but when.

    • What, exactly, is NeoGaf? Is it a video game forum with a politics discussion board?

Sometimes I think Trump should tone down his war with the media. I keep wavering on this, though. They were always going to treat him with contempt, so why not engage in total war? Most people who spend their mornings nodding sagely at the NY Times website (or listening to NPR) hate Trump anyway. His base has largely tuned them out.

Interestingly, today the NY Times had an article on the difficulties of immigration in Sweden. This is another way in which Trump is successfully framing issues:

      • “What, exactly, is NeoGaf? Is it a video game forum with a politics discussion board?”

Yes, but the politics and gaming boards might as well be totally separate websites. The “Off Topic” NeoGaf board is the number 1 English language site of the “woke” left. In fact, I believe that during the election, NeoGaf Off Topic had the most links to HillaryClinton.com of any website.

NeoGaf is different than DailyKos. DKos is 95%+ Americans, 95%+ white, disproportionately Jewish, well mixed between men and women, and the average age of the poster there is probably in their 50s. NeoGaf Off Topic is dramatically different: probably only about 50% white with a huge amount of liberal Muslims, latinos and (especially) blacks. Not many Jews. At least 20% non American and probably more than that. There are female posters on NeoGaf, but there is a clear male majority. The average age of an Off-Topic NeoGaffer is probably late 20s.

NeoGaffer’s politics are basically the stereotype of what we on the Right have of Lefties: openly anti white, BLM is awesome and the police are waging a racist war of extermination against blacks, the WWC are scum (several have openly admitted that they outright hate the WWC), extremely globalist while being unapologetically for open borders to the point that several of them stated during the election that their dream was the dissolution of the nation state and a single world government. They are also fairly right wing economically, they are fanatical about free trade and were devastated when TPP was shelved. They like Wall Street and Corporate America and love big media. They think that corporate power is good because corporations are good as spreading the left wing agenda. They LOVE Evan McMullin. Some have even suggested making him the Democratic party nominee in 2020.

NeoGaffers make heavy use of black/urban/hipster slang. They won’t say that somebody is a good guy, they will instead say that he is “good people”. They won’t say “black people”, they say “black folk”. When somebody has made a comment about somebody else that they think is devastating, they will say that the person on the receiving end has been “ethered”. They also like phrase “throwing shade”, which means disrespecting. If they don’t think somebody can or will do something, instead of saying that they will say, “he ain’t bout that life”.

They also don’t have a very strong grasp on reality: an increasingly large number of them are advocating civil war to take down Trump. They think they will win such a war because they think that the army will take the side of “the people”; they honestly believe that the Trump voting white boys that make up the majority of the military’s rank and file will side with liberals and minorities over their own family members because “they have taken an oath to protect the Constitution”. Their level of delusion is getting worse with time and just yesterday they were saying that the Courts would step in to force Trump to allow news orgs like CNN and the NYT back into WH press conferences.

Instead of seeing Mexican busboys, fry cooks, and deliver boys in cities like New York and San Francisco, we’ll be seeing a prole from Indiana wiping the buttocks of their wealthier counterparts, besides the usual dirty work.

  2. Good analysis, Sweaty.

RE: Trump’s approval numbers. They’ve bashed Trump for two years. The thing about a long smear campaign is that it’s effectiveness eventually wars off as people become immune to it. Everyone who was going to oppose Trump already opposed him before the election. If anything, his approval should increase as the Republicans stopped trying to undermine him and those who doubted his sincerity realized he was the real deal.

    • I would agree. After throwing the book at him for years, most of the damage is done. So I doubt he’ll ever have high approval numbers (at least on polls reported on in the news) but that doesn’t preclude winning another term.

  3. Looks like the Democrats are doubling down on crazy and going with either Tom Perez or Keith Ellison as party chair. What a clown show!

      • The Jews in the dem party don’t seem to like Ellison very much. It’s possible many Israel friendly democrats will default to Trump or at least not support democrats when that election happens. That makes the democrats finished as a national force, since their only financial backer becomes Giorgy Schwartz and a handful of other kooks. Chaim Saban leaving the Democratic Party would be quite a statement.

James O’Keefe at project Veritas got 2 hours of inside undercover footage at CNN. Apparently Israeli Intel edits some of their stories (hearsay on another forum based on listening to the tapes – might be fake news).

I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the major news networks (probably CNN) was dealt a death blow in the next eight years. They have become too much anti factual.

    • American capitalists love non-white immigrants — they are more obliging, and certain groups are likely to draw welfare, perhaps in turn, this translates into more corporate welfare for CEO big wigs.

Readers here shouldn’t be shocked that even the average small business owner in America would hire illegals if it’s cheap and effective. The only ones who are complaining about them are those who don’t have any money.

      February 25, 2017 at 11:36 am

    • An astute observation. I think the danger to Trump of an impeachment effort led by GOP party regulars – and naturally joined by 100% of Democrats – in order to install President Pence is not insignificant. That is what the Russia thing is all about.

      Two in the Bush

      February 25, 2017 at 11:53 am

      • That’s what the Left has been hoping-for/expecting but it isn’t going to happen. It would cause a civil war. It isn’t going to happen unless Trump’s supporters abandon him. Right now Trump have over 90% approval amongst Republican voters and that makes him invulnerable to impeachment.

        Otis the Sweaty

        February 25, 2017 at 2:24 pm

      • I agree that impeachment is very very unlikely. I do think Pence is trying to stage a “soft coup”. Trump will stay in office but Pence, Priebus and Ryan are going to try to strip away everything that makes Trump interesting. Flynn’s departure is Pence’s doing, not the left’s, and if they can figure out a way to get Bannon out without harming Trump too much publicly, they will do it.

    • I think lots of GOP voters reluctantly voted for Trump out of hatred (justifiable hatred, in my opinion) for Clinton and the Democrats. If Trump and the GOP fail to deliver on tax cuts and some kind of replacement of Obamacare I think many of these anti-Clinton voters will sit out future elections, especially if Trump really does go through with tariffs and other measures that could hurt businesses.

      • Doubtful. Any failures on Trump’s part will be attributed to obstructionist republicans and various other establishment scum. Similar to how democrats blame republicans for obstructing Obama (rightfully so). It’s woefully apparent that it’s the people versus the establishment i.e. A self annointed parasitic aristocracy. This is probably how aristocracies formed throughout history, but this time it’s being cut off at the knees simply because the aristocracy isn’t perceived as legitimate (scum that rose to the top) and doesn’t have anything of value to give to its constituents.

I feel sorry for these narcissistic fools as they probably will rot in prison for the rest of their lives.

Anybody still calling Trump a “clown” at this point is not legitimate.

What is he clown or Hitler? A clown or dangerous and unhinged?

Look at his actions so far – not very clown like. Seems like he’s loading up his administration slowly with capable, proven winners for the most part. He’s keeping promises.

Trump will continue to move in a business like manner including making new hirings, new firings, modify, renegotiate, make adjustments based on results.

      He’s just getting started.

He just needs to keep in mind that the biggest enemies are WITHIN the Republican party.

They want open borders, bad trade deals, more wars, more out of date foreign policy commitments.

      They aren’t going away.

  6. 1. Trump has hired H-1B expansionist Kevin Hassett to be head of the Council of Economic Advisors.

    2. Trump has issued 4,000 new DACA amnesties over his own signature. It’s his program now and Trump intends to keep amnesty going forever.

    3. Deportations and raids continue at slightly lower than the rate under Obama.

    4. Trump pre-emptively abandoned the Muslim ban before he even took office and tried to cover it up with visa limits on seven countries that never obtained many visas to being with. The perpetrators of 9-11 in Saudi Arabia and Egypt are scott-free as are Osama’s defenders in Pakistan.

    5. Trump gave his enemies a scalp in Gen. Flynn and now they smell blood in the water. Neocons in the Republican party are salivating at the prospect of an impeachment and war with Russia.

    6. Republicans in Congress are gearing up to take away health care from America’s working families and give giant tax cuts to plutocrats. In spite of his campaign promises there’s no indication that Trump will refuse to sign it.

    7. AG Sessions wants to crack down on states with legal marijuana. In spite of his campaign promises there’s no indication Trump will refuse to sign on.

      • Yes, that’s true, but gaming proles tend to be a younger demographic – geeks with low brow interests that overlap in other areas that are prole like tech gadgets, alternative universe/sci-fi, and “comic book characters”. White proles who have these type of interests are likely to associate with non-white proles, because these areas of interest aren’t exclusively “White” that are taken up by SWPLs.

Furthermore, I’m not even sure if guidos are a significant demographic with interests in gaming, sci-fi and comic book heroes. Guidos are just a boring people, who only find fun with partying, drugs and sex.
