Trump’s taxes: boring subject

They can only be interesting in a way that’s bad for Trump: if he lied, cheated, did something illegal, etc.

Otherwise, it doesn’t matter what his tax rate was. No one is obligated to pay more taxes than they are legally required to pay, and no one does, not Democrats, not Republicans.

  1. Honestly, I think everyone’s taxes are a boring subject. It’s something everyone has to do, like pooping, but why have a whole conversation about it. Whenever I’m with friends and they start talking about how big a refund they got or the great rate they got refinancing their mortgage my eyes glaze over and I start wishing I had friends who talk about pussy or something.

    • Hookahs get a W-2 too. They should file even if they are like Yakov. The IRS went after Al Capone for not filing his taxes.

  2. Short term it does nothing but make people hyping it look bad.

Long term it could be an issue. There could be a lot of parsing of what we do know ( how rich is he if he netted 100M a year in the last 11 years) and perhaps the schedules are to come.
And of course they have now established that anyone leaking the tax return faces a minor penalty of $5K and a theoretical prison term. You would also be a massive celebrity, probably collect a million plus in bounties and get a slap on the wrist from a left wing judge.

It is interesting that David Cay Johnson is allowed to speculate that Trump leaked the returns while the news media doesnt append the supposedly obligatory “while offering no proof”. Will the public editors address that?

  3. Trump could make it interesting by challenging Warren Buffett and other billionaires to pay at least 25% of their income to the IRS each year.

    • Trumps tax rate was 77% of his agi. Basic accounting is you have income and deductions. Just counting your income is what shady people who like to pretend they make more money than they do do. So, Trumps paid 38 million of taxes on 49 million of agi. This is how ‘fair share’ is really structured. 77% isn’t enough.

  4. I heard someone speculating today that Trump himself is the source of the leaked tax return; that he set up the Liberal Media for some disappointment.

But as usual, the real question is what the talk is about this on NeoGap.

    • They are not happy. They feel like Maddow got rolled and that possibly this was set up by Bannon to make the Left look bad.

    • Wait, I haven’t seen anybody here comment on what NeoGaf is saying about this yet. And that is alarming to me since this blog is my only source of knowing what is going on at NeoGaf. I think Trump is definitely the source. He probably had Eric send the actual return so that Spicer can honestly say that Trump didn’t leak it when the question comes at the press briefing.

  5. More exciting subject…Trump forcefully celebrated the life and presidency of one Andrew Jackson today. A man who owned slaves, slaughtered injuns and told the courts to go f**k themselves. What a 20 months it’s been for the Overton Window!

  6. It’s only interesting if his tax forms prove one thing. Trump is all about burlesque. “I’m only a billionaire by the word of mouth, and the world is only a show”.

  7. Everyone relax. All we gotta do is make sure Trump print mo’ money. Problem solved, unnastan’?

  8. “HONOLULU (AP) — For the second time, a federal court on Wednesday blocked President Donald Trump’s efforts to freeze immigration by refugees and citizens of some predominantly Muslim nations, putting the president’s revised travel ban on hold just hours before it was to take effect.”

  9. The lefty spin is that Trump only paid that $38 million under the Alternative Minimum Tax. Without the AMT, he would’ve paid about $4-5 million.

Then the leftis allude to how Trump wants to get rid of the AMT.

  10. Lion, since you know something about law, please do a post about the latest court’s blocking of Trump’s revised executive order. News articles are reporting that judges accepted “civil liberties” and immigrant groups’ arguments that it violates the 1st amendment by discriminating against Muslims, using Trump’s prior public statements as evidence.
