Erin Moran’s sad end

with 44 comments

Erin Moran, aka Richie Cunningham’s little sister Joannie, died from a heroin overdose, at age 56, while living in a trailer park in Indiana.

What a sad end. From famous teen actress to heroin-addict trailer-park trash.

* * *

Latest update from CNN: she died from cancer, and no illegal narcotics were found at her trailer.

  1. Did I detect a hint of schadenfreude? I never much cared for her. But that’s cold, bro.
    **
Halfway down the DM article, it goes into a discussion of opiate addiction saying “the US is now the worst country in the world for the abuse of heroin and opiates.” Where did this come from all of a sudden? It wasn’t a problem a few years ago. Then it says, “It found that Americans are being prescribed opioids much more frequently than citizens in any other country.” So there we have it. Doctors are handing out painkillers like candy and then people are getting hooked on them. I’d imagine that some of them then turn to heroin since it’s basically the same drug as the painkillers. Then, of course, this increases the market for heroin which makes it more readily available to everyone else as well. Looks like this heroin epidemic has the medical industry’s fingerprints all over it.

I also wonder if there’s an indirect connection between this and the push to legalize pot? Not saying there is. But it does come at about the same time.

    • No, there’s no schadenfreude here. Rather, fear that someone could sink so low from fame.

      • No need to shit on people who live in trailer parks. That’s just classism. Tiny houses are trendy now, and they’re not much different. I

As for falling out of fame, I don’t think it’s that uncommon. For example:

      • Jennifer Lien’s appearance has changed almost entirely. Folks age, but they don’t usually morph into different people.

Must have been a transporter accident.

      • The thing about actresses falling out of fame is that you don’t hear about them unless the die relatively young or get arrested, so their absence isn’t so obvious. But a couple of other examples come to mind. One is Amy Locane, who was on Melrose Place.

She ended up in a big house in NJ, rather than a trailer home in Indiana (and she aged very well), but she killed someone with her car in a DUI incident: http://perezhilton.com/2010-06-28-melrose-place-actress-arrested-for-death-in-drunk-driving-accident#.WP1JG1PyvNA

Another example, with a younger actress. On Sunday nights, WPIX plays movies at midnight, and a few weeks ago, they played one starring Amanda Bynes, who was a pretty big deal as a teen star (she’s 31 now). So I looked her up on Wiki. Pretty sad: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanda_Bynes#Personal_life

      • Young sitcom and movie fame seems to often deprive people of a more stable path, rather than act as an assurance of continued success. Though, we tend to only remember the continued successes.

Although later in life, Moran’s death brings to mind Dana Plato, of Different Strokes fame, whose opiate induced death is widely believed to have been suicide after a similar financial fall. Plato had been working at a laundromat in Vegas, for sometime before her death, if memory serves.

The move for all of the not-Ron Howard’s of the world seems to be to go hard on a prole success path, like Chunk from Goonies who slimmed down and became an attorney. After all, many child stars are proles who lucked into roles that merely give them a false sense of their ability to stay non-homeless. Add in the Hollywood party scene, and it seems to be a consistent recipe for disaster.

  2. I forgot who said that US actors often come from poorer/prole/weirdo backgrounds because the path to success is so precarious and a normal living is hard to make for those stuck at mediocrity. In contrast, the British have subsidized systems for Shakespeare/high theater/etc. This means that many upper class Brits from elite backgrounds can take a risk on acting and have more of a fallback if they fail. That also makes Brits more desirable for supporting roles as educated, classy, nerdy, intellectual characters, further reducing the roles that educated Americans can play.

  3. Nothing to be sad about. Pretty good life for the actress Most of them are bipolar or bisexual or both. Entertainment industry is basically showing mentally ill people to normal people, so that could laugh at them.

I worry about the memorization involved in chess, because I’d like my son to play it. Word games in general deal with annoying amounts of memorization, but I suppose they’re helpful for kids to learn spelling.

      • I enjoy chess and scrabble (words with friends) and play some of both most days. My wife loves scrabble and sudoku and plays both daily as well. I believe they’re a great mental exercise and worth playing. But we play them because we enjoy them. We’ve never set out to master them and don’t think there’s any point in it. If you enjoy it and get good at it then great. But unless someone has a passion for it, I think studying chess in order to master it is a waste of time. In fact, having a passion for it could be an even bigger waste of time. It’s just a game.

  9. Why didn’t her mega rich co-stars do anything to help her? Or maybe they did, and we don’t know about it. Still tragic. This whole opioid epidemic is a huge health hazard, but because it’s not affecting a recognized victim group it doesn’t get the attention it deserved.

  10. Le Pen made it to the run off and is expected to get no less than 35% of the vote in the 2nd round, or about double of what her old man got 15 years ago.

The Left will try to spin this but this is yet another victory for the forces of Reaction against the forces of Globalism. The only meaningful electoral victory the Left has had recently is the defeat of Hofer in the 2nd round in Austria. But even then Hofer probably had over performed in the first election thanks to the recency of the migrant crisis at the time.

    • With France being so much smaller than the U.S and the muslim presence therefore so much more palpable and more separate attacks having already taken place than here, could you explain why Le Pen’s share is as low as 35%? Honestly asking, I’m jumst a fender bender lawyer.

      • 1. When a country isn’t a 2 party system, it is extremely hard for anti establishment candidates to get through. Trump was able to get 46% of the vote only because the country is so polarized among left/right lines, because our large black population has racialized whites in a way that even Muslims cannot duplicate and because Trump was able to co-opt enough of the Republican establishment. Those factors simply aren’t their for Marine.

        2. Anglos are simply less cucked than continental Europeans are. French culture is more cucked out than US/British culture and German culture is more cucked out than even French culture.

        3. The chances of dying in a terror attack are pretty low, not enough that they would cause any libtards in the cities to change their stances on the FN which is culturally anathema to them.

        4. The latest polls seem to indicate that Le Pen will likely exceed 40% of the vote, not sure I buy that, but even in the high 30’s would be huge. When Macron inevitably fails, this will set Le Pen up to get in the mid 40s in 2024 and for her niece to take over and win in 2031.

      • It sounds like there hasn’t been much of an alternative media developed yet in France. By the time Trump ran for president, we had the HBD blogosphere, Breitbart, Drudge, and nascent alt-right Twitter pages, YouTube accounts, Reddit, and 4chan’s /pol. There was an independent, alternative media infrastructure ready for someone to activate.

It sounds like it’s harder to start alternative media forums in the Francophone world too. Peter Frost is bilingual in French, and his blog was an absolute diamond. He stopped blogging because hate speech laws in Quebec were becoming increasingly authoritarian. I genuinely miss his blog and someone like him could’ve spread the word in French, but that wasn’t to be.

It sounds ridiculous that an alternative media is so necessary. If someone blew himself up after screaming Allahu Akbar, shouldn’t you be able to see through the lies?

Maybe, but it’s astonishing what the mind can stuff down the memory hole. Yang Jisheng in the introduction to “Tombstone” says that his father died during the Great Leap Forward while he was off at college. It shocked him profoundly, but he figured his father’s death was just an isolated incident while Communism was working out. It wasn’t until the Cultural Revolution, when the Party’s quarrels were brought out into the open, that Yang realized the Party wasn’t always necessarily right. If it were, why would the Cultural Revolution be necessary, and target and ruin Party members who were said to be exemplary heroes just a few years prior.

      • “Anglos are simply less cucked than continental Europeans are. French culture is more cucked out than US/British culture and German culture is more cucked out than even French culture.”

I’d say that’s true of Western Europe. Post-Communist Central Europe (like the Visegrad states) tend to be pretty “based.” The Czech Republic has promised to take in no more than 12 refugees, Hungary is notorious for Viktor Orban flipping the bird, and Poland is asking Germany, “We’re housing Ukrainian refugees. What makes you so special?”

But I do agree that Western European countries are far, far more cucked than Anglo-Atlantic ones. I think the problem is that France and the Benelux countries were occupied by the Nazis. Germany and Italy had fascist regimes and suffered dearly for it, but were spared the horrors of Communism (East Germans, not withstanding Merkel, are usually much less cucked than the West Germans). Spain and Portugal also had social conservative regimes linked to fascists. As such, they associate all social wrongs with the right-wing.

In contrast, American and Britain won the war and were never occupied, so their right-wing political movements never collaborated with the Nazis and were hence untainted. Furthermore, they had enough gas left in the tank to get riled up and angry about their Communist rivals. As such, while they still hated the memory of the Nazis, they couldn’t go overboard with leftism all at once while Communism was their major geopolitical foe.

    • Also Hofer was running for a role that is mostly ceremonial, and he also won all of Austria except for Vienna and a sliver on the Swiss border. It was hardly an impressive victory for the left.

  11. OT: Ann Althouse is reading the recent book about the Hilary campaign and it sounds hilarious; people here should check it out.

    http://althouse.blogspot.com/2017/04/i-decided-after-all-to-read-shattered.html

    Example:

The Hildebeast was scared to talk to any reporter who wasn’t already in love with her, so she told Huma Abedin, her right hand man, to set up an interview with Yahoo! News’ Bianna Golodryga, wife of former Clinton admin apparatchik Peter Orszag. Huma misheard and setup a TV interview with Brianna Keilar at CNN, and by the time these dolts figured out the mistake it was too late to squirm out of it, and Hilary’s own minions considered the interview on CNN with Keilar to be a disaster.

The vast majority of actors never reach her level of success. And of those who do, the vast majority of those have a few years in the sun and then they go into the shadows. She should have known that.
