When are we getting sexbots?

In response to a commenter who calls himself “The Philosopher”:

I can certainly see computer AI becoming so powerful within the next 100 years that it can mimic a human personality. But I’m not so sure about a robot body that would look and feel perfectly human. The sex dolls I’ve seen in internet articles look creepy.

* * *

Remember that while computer AI is subject to Moore’s Law (as long as Moore’s Law continues) and will get exponentially more powerful, the manufacture of a lifelike robot body is not subject to Moore’s Law.

20 years from now, I would not be surprised if you could have a conversation with Siri or Alexa that seems no different than talking to a real human. But I don’t think there will be lifelike robot bodies, especially considering that a lifelike robot body has no commercial use except for sexbots. Robotic-looking robots, on the other hand, will be extremely useful, and will be mass manufactured as soon as the technology is available.

  1. Realistically? In 15 years. And they don’t have to be perfect. Even ones slightly creepy will be better than fat girls.

  2. It’s almost unthinkable that fornication with a sex doll is ok with even the creepiest of individuals.

      • Jerking off on to porn is cheaper and gives you the same happy ending. No need for sexbots.

  3. ‘The sex dolls I’ve seen in internet articles look creepy.’

Obviously, it’s for creeps an perverts. You keep talking about sexbots and reading model’s mail, man. You are getting creepy. Don’t go there, stay nerdy.

I don’t think they can replace a Wing Chun dummy, though. It’s got that perfect feel. It’s gonna stay.

You mean robots will be dreaming up honey do projects? This is progress?

  5. Yes yes, I think we can all agree that sexbots, at least the real doll versions that are currently available, look creepy. But they’re likely to get better. Twenty years ago, online dating was creepy too, now for young people it’s more common than not.

I think the ramifications of these are troubling, and so far, the manosphere seems to be the ones on top of the terrible long term consequences of sex bots that get over that uncanny valley and are not “creepy.”

    • What exactly is the purpose of making anatomically correct Terminators capable of having sex with their victims?

      • Better long-term infiltrators? In that series, a (male) terminator impersonated a woman’s husband for months.

Of course, one would image the T-8xx’s would need better ability to emulate human behavior for that to work (which the T-1000s seem better able to do).

      • I confess that I only paid attention to the original Terminator movie with Arnold that came out in 1984.

Hot chick Terminators are an example of prole drift.

      • Sci-Fi coming from Hollywood was always deranged. The 80s was its heyday.

We had cyborgs disguised as humans. We had a scary female alien disguised a hot chick in Species. You have ugly reptoids disguised as pretty Caucasoids. Why were the lizards in V mostly “White” in racial makeup? It remains a good question that even sci-fi geeks are not discussing, perhaps those with HBD leanings!

      • That was actually a pretty good show. It did bring up something I thought applied to much of science fiction. One scene with John, his mother and Cameron in a social workers office, and the social worker seems more worried about Cameron, who she suspects may be autistic. I thought, autism is pretty much a standard diagnosis of sci-fi AI/robots/androids for decades, including some aliens, like Spock.

  7. Sex bots are less creepy than anal sex. If homosexual anal sex can be normalized, so can many other things.

  8. Lion, I’ve earned a degree in accounting based on a blog post you published on your old blog. But, I have currently read many articles stating that the field of accounting will be automated in the coming years. Was it a mistake for me to earn an accounting degree, now that AI will be able to takeover many accounting roles?

    • I sure hope not. Sadly, that was old advice I gave before I fully realized the importance of having self-actualizing jobs.

Do you have a good job? Hopefully, you can figure out how to get into a career path leading to CFO of a big corporation.

      • You said not to be a lawyer and not to be a programmer, but what else is there if you don’t want to be a doctor?

There will always be jobs for doctors, physicists and mathematicians, no matter how shitty the economy is. Lawyers and programmers are usually okay as long as the economy is decent and things are even better for programmers now that Trump is cracking down on H1B abuse. Government jobs are great but are hard to get unless you are willing to teach in the ghetto.

Not everybody can be a doctor, physicist or mathematician though. Being a doctor sucks and being a physicist or mathematician is only an option for people with 130 math IQs min. If you don’t want to spend the time and money to go to law school, being a programmer is your best bet.

      • Speaking of programmers, there’s a hired gun at one of my favorite local establishments who I recently discovered is a programmer (in school about to graduate). My mind was completely blown; I didn’t think that young white girls with really nice asses went into programming anymore.

      • She will very quickly get promoted into something where she no longer programs.

      • The best thing is to adopt a nihilist attitude towards your surroundings in America.

Yes, that accounting degree is useless as with many White collar professions that have been saturated by a glut of people who are equally as capable and talented, and soon to be replaced by AI.

America is run as a corporation in its entirety, out to make money and cut costs, and this includes eliminating human labor.

I say pursue your non-career passions at full speed, without thinking of status and how it projects to women.

      • “Government jobs are great but are hard to get unless you are willing to teach in the ghetto.”

That’s what conservative Baby Boomers don’t tell you. They lead you to believe that only lazy losers work in government, and point to the idiots at the DMV to make their point.

In truth, government jobs are awesome and are quite difficult to get.

Sure, you won’t make as much as you would in a top law firm or hedge fund. But who cares? You’re not getting those jobs anyway. And “job security” for a Millennial is like water for a Bedouin.

      • I am pretty sure you can’t be a mathematician with only a 130 IQ. These days more like 145 is the floor. My measured IQ is around 130 as it that of my spouse who got a degree in actuarial science but then went to work as an analyst and technical programmer for more money and more fun than studying for ac sci exams. I know I couldn’t be a mathematician etc.

    • Bookkeeping and rote tax return preparation can be automated and largely are already to some extent but not the kind of shit that you’d get an accounting degree for. Especially in financial auditing, you have to get face time with the client and understand what they do, identify controls, risks, etc. Speaking from experience as a financial auditor myself.

Think of it this way: writing articles stating the field of accounting will be automated in the coming years will be automated before the actual field of accounting is.

    • Accounting is the language of business – you will always have a decent white collar job. Though I understand that new accountants right out of undergrad working for the Big4 and lesser firms work 60+ hours per week for half the year, under stressful and unpleasant conditions, for $45K. And, like w/ Big Law and mid-tier law firms, most wash out after a couple of years taking jobs with one of their clients.

      • It’s boring and most accountants are not very intellectual, while taxation and IRS procedure are almost like philosophy, a topic that could be discussed on this blog, that entails HBD, NAMs, SWPLs and proles.

  9. Lion: would you convert to Scientology for CNN Tech correspondent Laurie Segall? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znaWof1jv6s

  10. I think sexbots are oversold. Prostitutes have already existed since the dawn of civilization and they actually are real human females; some of them are even quite attractive and will have interesting conversations and pretend to have girlfriendy feelings for you if you pay enough and want that sort of thing, yet they are still seen as an inferior substitute. So I don’t see how an even less accurate simulation of the real thing will have much of an effect.

I think the guys who hype sexbots tend to be on the more autistic side of things; sort of like the women who don’t understand how you would ever need anything besides a vibrator because they only see the friction of flesh and don’t pick up on the millions of subcommunications that make up the sexual experience.

    May 7, 2017 at 2:40 PM

    • I’m sorry but if your fantasy is to have a sexual relationship with Ingrid Bergman or Charlize Theron then you will never find any real world prostitute that will satisfy this. Sexbots is more than just sex. It’s about fantasy. People will pay a lot to satisfy their fantasy.

      • I’ll be honest; I don’t understand why anyone would fantasize about a 41-year old cigarette smoker when there’s millions of college age girls out there, many of whom probably have nicer personalities. But more power to you if that’s your thing.

    • Pornography is a better comparison due to its very low cost. Plenty of men watch pornography.

  11. Sexbot is boring but sexbot with virtual reality is not. And a sexbot with virtual reality doesn’t have to look like a human or move like a human. Technically it’s not really a sexbot but it will serve the same purpose.

    Neal

    May 7, 2017 at 3:29 PM

  12. I think that a convincing human imitation is in the same realm of programs that are writing programs and time traveling, it is possible theoretically but will never materialise. So women can relax, sex dolls will always be just a fancy vibrator.

  13. Sexbots are irrelevant before they even come into existence. It’s going to be VR sex, because that will manifest much sooner and be a far more immersive experience than some android will be in our lifetimes. Why settle for a bargain bin sexbot when you can have the entire Victoria’s Secret roster on your Oculus 3.0 fleshlight for a few hundred dollars? Give it 10 years max. It’s gonna get weird.

    Apothecary

    May 8, 2017 at 12:42 AM

    • That’s a good point; VR is much closer than a android, and with VR, you can do just about anything, the most beautiful girl in the world, or a fuzzie or whatever weird fantasy you have. THAT may be hard for a real woman to compete with.
