The real GLOW

The original pilot from 1985. (I do not really recommend watching the entire thing.)

What the Netflix series got right: The original GLOW was just as awful and low-rent as what was presented on the Netflix series. Hard to believe, but true.

What the Netflix series got wrong: 80s hair.

      • With 21st century prole drifting and NAM uplifting in America, Fussell’s book is outdated (and the NYT also agrees that Fussy’s class system is outdated) — it should be redefine as the elite class vs everybody else.

In a post scarcity world, where the ghetto underclass has access to the same amenities also afforded to the rich, the elites need and want to redefine their status markers.

      • “and the NYT also agrees that Fussy’s class system is outdated”

And of course we always agree with the New York Times.

      • It seems like the NYT has failed to dissect the several kinds of elites who each have a different set of ethos — money grubbing elites like Trump are prole, when you compare them to the college professors who are not as wealthy.

  3. Here’s a ‘shoot’* interview with Lisa Moretti (Tina Ferrari in GLOW) who went on to a successful mainstream wrestling career. She’s unsually articulate for a professional wrestler.

*in pro-wrestling ‘to shoot’ means ‘fight for real’ and a ‘shoot interview’ is one where the wrestler is open about the scripted nature of matches and talks about behind the scenes stuff.

  5. This woman resembles “Mama June”, the mother of that reality TV show child star Honey Boo-Boo.

  7. When I think of 70s-80s TV awfulness I think of Dance Fever.
