Beta-male rage in New Mexico?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/08/28/two-dead-four-injured-in-shooting-at-new-mexico-library/

This sounds like beta-male rage. But there’s too much other news going on, and too few victims, for this to bubble up to being a major national story.

* * *

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-newmexico-shooting-idUSKCN1B82II

Shooter is a 16-year-old kid, with a white-sounding name, Christian, not a Muslim.

So just as I predicted based on the earlier news story.

  1. I don’t see much in the link that would suggest Beta rage other than that both of the deaths were women.

    • Right, an alpha-male wouldn’t go to a library and shoot women.

    • The only reason criminals go to libraries is because they don’t have computer access. These days the only people without internet access are the homeless.

  2. https://pragmaticallydistributed.wordpress.com/2017/08/28/building-a-government-shutdown-to-build-a-wall/

Some historical, political, and framing considerations for handling the looming shutdown battle in Congress over wall funding .

The first thing to remember from history is that voters will forget about any ongoing government shutdown within a few weeks (or, if there is a shutdown in September, a few days given the mesmerizing acceleration rate of recent news cycles) because essential government functions that are noticed by the public will remain up and running.

Keep in mind Republicans shutdown the government in 2013 after it was left devastated in 2012 by Romney’s loss, underperformed in that year’s Senate races, and was trembling in terror at the specter of Hillary Clinton’s “inevitable” 2016 political war machine. In 2014 the shutdown had been forgotten and the GOP soundly recaptured the US Senate with a total of 55 seats.

Furthermore, whatever short term dip in popularity the Republicans suffered in 2013 was on account of their acting as obstructionists.

This time the obstructionists will be the Democrats, and Trump would be well-advised to point out the parliamentary fact that the shutdown is the fault of the Democrats. The holdup of the budgetary legislation would not be Trump’s fault. It will be the fault of Democrats for blocking the bill from coming to a vote.

By framing the debate that this is a Democratic shutdown Trump will maximize his pressure on the Democrats to fold. Trump should especially call out by name vulnerable Democratic Senators in 2016 for their obstruction of the budget.

Trump should also use his discretion to withhold more pay from non-essential government employees than usually have their checks withheld in shutdowns to make the 4th Branch bureaucrats the Democrats represent put pressure on their own party to fold.

Trump already has more to gain than lose through a shutdown. Among the reasons he stands to gain is that a shutdown will lead to yet another hysterical media overreaction (at what point does the public become overwhelmed with one master hysteria after another until they psychologically tune out the media’s hysteria completely? We must be getting close to that point). Also, the odds favor that whatever polling hit he takes the day the government shutdowns is likely to be temporary.

By taking this suggested hardball framing measures Trump stands to gain even more.

  3. I don’t know about the beta part. He had a girlfriend, smoked weed and got in fights. Heavy.com says, “Jouett’s mother is Jessica Reynolds, maiden name Romero.” Maybe it was guido male rage?

    • Not guido – Mexicano. Apparently, he also has [at least] two mommies.*

      See photo at Heavy.com:
      http://heavy.com/news/2017/08/nathaniel-jouett-clovis-library-shooting-suspect/

“On August 24, Jouett’s girlfriend posted a meme to her page that read, “My goal in a relationship is to help my man become a better person, keep him out of trouble and show him things about himself he never realized.”

“Stevens said that it was his daughter who brought Jouett into the church. During their relationship Stevens said that Jouett, during phone conversations, would lay “with a gun at his side and a suicide note in his pocket.” Stevens added that Jouett had a “very hard life” and was “making positive strides” having joined the church in May 2017.”

“Chris Jouett [his father] remarried in 2009.
*Jouett’s mother is Jessica Reynolds, maiden name Romero. She is now married to a woman.(/B)
Stevens told KOB4 that Jouett’s childhood had been “at times even abusive, childhood.”

      3. Jouett Became Addicted to Meth at 13
A source told Heavy.com that Jouett was suspended from school for fighting at a pep rally on the Friday before the shooting. That same person, who is a verifiable friend of Jouett’s, said that in recent times the suspect had been involved in drugs, primarily weed.
The source said that she and Jouett’s girlfriend would “try to keep him out of trouble.”

      • Definitely a beta male (sub beta male really), but who happened to attract an omega female, probably because he was one of the few males at their prole-and-increasingly-underclass high school who wasn’t obese. (And he wasn’t obese because he was on meth).

If this guy had been an incel like most dweeby* teenagers instead of having a clingy, savior-complex girlfriend constantly nagging him about church and getting clean (and pushing his methhead rage over the edge), and, instead of being an incel, Elliot Rodger had this guy’s girlfriend giving him some nookie-nookie in between long talks about Jesus, neither of them would be mass shooters.

*A dweeb is like a nerd (socially awkward, unathletic, probably unattractive, non-mainstream interests), but doesn’t have an above-average IQ. They’re the WWE and heavy metal demographic. They’re almost certainly a (large) majority of the whites (or, more broadly, people with non-underclass parents) who end up in prison, rehab and mental institutions.

Comic-Con attendees and Dungeons & Dragons players are roughly 2/3 dweebs and 1/3 nerds. (Nerds and dweebs are childhood friends unless their school is large enough for them to be separate cliques). Software developers are nerds and “IT guys” are dweebs (except at tech companies, where they’re also nerds).

      • Addendum: Although it’s true as I said that Comic-Con attendees and Dungeons & Dragons players are roughly 2/3 dweebs and 1/3 nerds, the overall dweeb-to-nerd ratio is more like 55-45; genre fandom is just more dweebish (near-mandatory for dweebdom) than it is nerdish (widespread but not ubiquitous among the nerdy).

      • I was never into comics, not at all.

        Lion of the Blogosphere

      • Addendum addendum: The relative overrepresentation of dweebs to nerds in genre fandom isn’t because of personality differences (they share the same archetype) but rather the IQ difference between the two groups: A typical dweeb might be interested in video games, horror movies, sci-fi, weed, anime and Libertarianism, while a typical nerd might be interested in video games, programming, sci-fi, Roman history, veganism and chess.

Since, by definition, nerds have strong interests in highly g-loaded topics, and dweebs generally don’t (the exceptions become crank physicists, “IT guys” and high school math teachers), nerds simply have less time to devote to other topics like genre fandom that appeal to nerds and dweebs equally.

There are of course topics that are genuinely more dweebish than nerdish: professional wrestling, kids’ cartoons, heavy metal, modified cars

hard drugs, punk rock, skateboarding, conspiracy theorizing and so forth.

      • Snorlaxwp, your distinction between two classes of people to which you give the labels “nerd” and “dweeb” respectively is very useful and plausible. I’m just not sure that the label “dweeb” is ordinarily used to specify the class to which you apply it. The google-dictionary definition: “a boring, studious, or socially inept person” — much broader. Are you recommending that the word be used in this specific way or do you think that people actually use the word in this specific way (to label not-so-bright heavy-metal heads, superhero-fans, pro-wrestling-fans, etc.) already?

    • Romero also could be Spanish, especially in New Mexico.

      • Romero is also a Spanish surname.

Pepe Romero, the well known flamenco guitarist, was from Andalusia, Spain.

    • I think Lion should not have made a post about this shooter from NM. No one cares about NM, just the word Mexico alone signifies a nemesis of the United States.

This being said, I would rather live in New Mexico than a bottom of the barrel state like Florida.

    • He looks like a typical upper-middle-class Latin American (~80% white), which describes plenty of New Mexico Hispanics although not most Mexican illegals, who are mainly from the ~55% Indian lower rungs. My guess is his parents are both Hispanic, legally immigrated (or their parents did) and are working or middle-class rather than itinerant laborers or non-working underclass.

  5. Peter Hitchens repeatedly points out that in nearly all these cases, these killers (Islamic and non-Islamic) had done drugs such as weed or had been taking prescribed medication for mental illness. He is not claiming that there is a causal connection, only that a possible link should be investigated.

    What do people here think.

    • Weed makes weird people feel VERY weird, like aliens from the flip-side of the space-time fabric.

The idea that it necessarily makes you “mellow” is completely false. It simply puts you completely into the groove that you’re basically (but not so completely) in already. Groups of thugs are MORE likely to behave in an extremely violent and destructive way while stoned.

The only reason that there’s a lingering association of marijuana with a tranquilly insightful state of mind is that marijuana-use was at first widely promoted by certain upper-middle-class people who already thought that such a state of mind is worth aiming for.

Very few lower-class young adults today associate marijuana-use with a tranquilly insightful state of mind.

  6. Did you see this Lion? Interesting situation where two groups the alt-right are critical of [lib media, ghetto(ish) blacks] have a harsh interaction. Who do you side with? Kellyanne Conway, almost surely disingenuously, was critical of the lib media, because even pols with some connection to the alt-right can’t openly come out and say ‘WTF, why do blacks far too often act so crazy hostile?’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqkcajYOTfc
