Ophelia update

Ophelia is predicted to strengthen into a Category 2 hurricane, and the storm track has jogged east, making an Ireland landfall more likely. Technically, Ophelia will be a “post-tropical cylone” and not “hurricane” when it makes landfall, but will still pack strong Category 1 winds, so what’s the difference?

This is a pretty rare meteorological event. But not unheard of. People will whine about “global warming” and “climate change”, and ignore the fact that a hurricane hit Spain in 1842 before there had been any significant burning of fossil fuels.

The worst storm ever to hit Ireland was a winter storm in 1839 known as the Night of the Big Wind: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Big_Wind
