What’s really going on in Hollywood?

While many people have subversively said that female actresses get ahead by sleeping their way to the top, I think we now see evidence this is true, and that big (male) players in Hollywood felt so entitled to sexual tributes that they got into the habit of just assuming consent.

  2. Interesting that the WaPo reports Obama sent this drippy letter to a girlfriend:

“I am not so naive as to believe that a distinct line exists between romantic love and the more quotidian, but perhaps finer bonds of friendship… but I can feel the progression from one to the other (in my mind).”

    • That’s a very WHITE thing to write in a letter. Conspiracy mongers on the web will probably insist that Obama had a secret ghost writer.

  3. Why would an aspiring actress ever agree to meet alone in a hotel room with a movie producer? The only reasonable explanation is that these girls knew perfectly well what they were getting into, that they were going to trade sexual services for movie roles.

      • That one is pretty cut-and-dry — she lied.

Young people can be pretty naive though. I’ve known some young women who might not understand the implications in an invitation to be alone with a man.

Some of them are “men’s women” who maybe had a lot of male friends growing up and continue to seek out such male friendships as they get older, only to find out things have changed.

It reminds me of women in the military who seem to think getting trashed at a drinking party where she’s the only female surrounded by monster-sized military guys isn’t going to end badly.

Some of these women were not aspiring actresses. They were already established in their careers, if not superstars. Eg. Mira Sorvino, Ashley Judd, Angelina Jolie.

  4. This is realy very simple. Say, Polanski invites a 13 year old for a photo shoot and promises to put her on the cover of the French edition of Vogue. To anyone normal it’s clear what the intend is. I mean what on earth is so special about her for Polanski to give her all this attention? He obviously wants some tail. So what happened to put him away for 50 years? Nothing. The girl had sex before and she is gonna have sex again. Polanski took care of the situation by paying off the girl and the mother, which is what they wanted to begin with. Why not let this thing just go away already?

Before you all start ranting and raving and flying off the handle let’s put thing in perspective. Just yesterday people were all in love with Japan and Lion wasn’t even sure if he would like to be Japanese. I mean, he didnt rct the suggestion out of hand, right? People finally found a culture that was so much better then USA and blah-blah-blah. I said, and I stand firmly by my word, that USA is a million times better then the creepy Japanese culture. Incidently, what’s the age of consent in Japan? 13! Yes, thirteen! So before you tout low crime statistics analysis that! Polanski would have been a total non issue there. So you mates are very rediculous: you sing praizes of a sexualy perverted culture, but you ostracized an individual, who acted within that cultural norm. Why? I tell why – it’s because the Japs hate Muslims and foreigners and keep their country to themselves. So the Japs hate you and that’s why you love them. Magna, where are you when we need you to expose this lunacy?

    • There are many talented actresses and they need to get an extra edge by offering themselves for sex. This is very simple. An actress has always been a synonym for a slut. The reason that they are all coming out of the woodwork now is that they are afraid that their whoring ways will get exposed, so they rush to claim the victim status while they still can.

        >>In America the age of consent ought to be 16. By then girls are capable of making consensual sexual decisions<<

Not it shouldn't, and no girls are not capable of making decisions on consensual sex at that age. John Derbyshire related a report of a research psychologist (I can't recall the name.) Who determined that many teenage girls have no internal conversation going on in their heads. The teenage girl's mind really is terra incognita, as much to the teenage girls themselves as it is to their parents and outsiders. A civilized people protects teenage girls from both predators and their own cluelessness.

      • Yakov,

See, you’re simply not understanding what is going on here.

It doesn’t matter what these women thought or didn’t think, or what they consented to or did not consent to, or whether they are adults or not, or for how long this has been going on.

What matters is…that these are not the rules of the game anymore.

The rules of the game are that the federal government drops hard on you at the behest of a woman for any smearing of her honor…whether or not it is actually there.

What is happening to Weinstein is simply the beginning of bringing Hollywood into line with the rest of corporate America. It is hoisting Hollywood on the petard that it gave to the rest of us but from which they thought they were exempted.

        Welcome to the crab bowl.

      • It is in some states.

        I meant nationwide.

Not it shouldn’t, and no girls are not capable of making decisions on consensual sex at that age.

Sure they are. Girls at 16 are more mentally mature than 18 year old boys.

The teenage girl’s mind really is terra incognita, as much to the teenage girls themselves as it is to their parents and outsiders. A civilized people protects teenage girls from both predators and their own cluelessness.

16 year olds can and do manipulate older boys into having sex with them.

I agree that sex can be psychologically harmful to girls in their early teens. But by 16 they should be mature enough that if they have a consensual relationship with an older boy or man they won’t come away psychologically scarred like a 13 year old would.

It is an appropriate age, however fornication is nonetheless bad. If she is that young (and presumably innocent), you should marry her, not pump and dump her.

18 and 19 year old virgins can be as naive as a 16 year old.

So who is the one inflicting emotional damage here? And that’s for the 25-50% of teenage males that manage to get any regular action at all.

  7. I have an interesting newsflash.

I was talking with a coupe of uber-Manhattan libs. it’s a dirty rotten job but somebody has to do it. One an actor.

I asked why now? Why did the NY Times come after Weinstein now? Why the NYer? They looked at me as if I were crazy and both immediately said, “Trump.” I didn’t understand & they looked at me as if I were dumb and said that Weinstein was just the sacrificial lamb and that Trump is the real target.

I said I didn’t think that that would happen, and that if that were true Hollywood shot itself in the foot. They realized I was a fink and froze me out.

Anyway, passing this along. This is conventional wisdom in Manhattan blue circles, as I surmised. The real target in this is Trump. But things didn’t work out as they planned.

Trump, even though there has been a massive #MeToo campaign. Looks like Trump was right the first time: his was just locker room talk.

        October 20, 2017 at 8:28 pm

      • I’ll try to make it clear. Everyone knew for years. In 2004 someone was gonna write an article – it was shitcanned. The Times has known for years. Why did these revelations come out now?

Because the real target was Trump. The liberal establishment thought that the outrage would crescendo and would inevitably take in, and take down, Trump.

That was what they sincerely thought. But things didn’t work out how they’d planned. Is that clear? It’s as clear as I can make it.

I thought I was alone in thinking this, but these two libtard guys were thinking the same thing. They still think it’s gonna happen. They were quite sincere in thinking it WILL happen.

Isn’t that kind of like saying, “how did Weinstein get away with it for so long?” I’m not being snarky.

My answer is: they had no competition, and they have a stranglehold on the means of communication, i.e., the discourse. The brilliance of the whole operation is that the pseudo-leftists get to whine about how “marginalized” they are, when in fact, they are just dummies and dupes for the most powerful corporation the world has ever seen: Big Capitalism.

No details, but I was in the HQ of a major European multinational financial services corp. and on one of the walls in one of the endless hallways was a huge mural/presentation celebrating LGBT rights. Oh, the poor persecuted gays! All they want is to be left alone! I think you get my point.

The libs I spoke with aren’t clueless about Reagan conservatism – that’s what they think they are fighting. But they are clueless about the alt-lite. They don’t understand that there’s been an earthquake.

In a convoluted way, this does make sense. Liberals really do think that by creating a firestorm of sexual abuse allegations it will somehow blow back on Trump, though he has nothing to do with them. Weird.

Also, the liberals are trying to make hay out the death of the four soldiers in Niger. They are hoping that they can turn this into Trump's Benghazi. They are already harping on the failure of intelligence, but it doesn't occur to them that they have recently invoked the CIA as an ally in trying to bring down Trump. Trump won't fall for it. If the death and ill preparation of the soldiers was due to a failure of intelligence, specifically CIA intelligence, Trump will use this to discredit the intelligence apparatus that have it in for him. Trump wins again.

@Daniel, thank you – you put it better than I did.

The word “convoluted” is operative here, because anything and everything that has to do with modern liberals is convoluted. Perhaps a better word is twisted. The modern liberal is a person whose brain is so twisted that when it points in the right direction, all the wiring is so off that the signals get mashed up. Which leads to:

“Also, the liberals are trying to make hay out the death of the four soldiers in Niger.”

Twisted/convoluted describes this perfectly. While Trump is 100% clear about who and what he is. They can’t get it. This causes massive organ failure on the left.

      • The only Overton Window shifting that’s happening as a result of Weinstein, et al is that of the moral authority of Hollywood. This is having absolutely no direct effect on Trump at all.

        Andrew E.

        October 21, 2017 at 10:47 am

      • Two points:

        1) allowing Harvey to rot puts into motion the process of discovery by the FBI. Discovery is possibly the worst thing that can happen to any organization that flouts regulation, but never truly comes close to breaking the law. Once they break the law, they are beyond fucked because now the cops have an excuse to come and dig for as many minor/major infractions as they can dig up. Look to see Weinstein’s entire board doing a perp walk in the near future. Now that’s a movie.

        2) if the CIA really did JFK as many conspiracy theorists allege or if there was even a hint of a cover up, then Trump doesn’t have his finger on just one red button anymore. Of course, we know that Trump probably holds many ways of completely destroying various political careers because he is clean enough, but his enemies are dirty as sin.

  8. Many women, whose charms afford them the opportunity to trade their companionship for career advancement, will always try to take advantage of their blessings. On the other hand the burgeoning witch-hunt in Hollywood (and everywhere else in the mediasphere – Hiya #fakenews&punditry!) will make men more cautious and we will see more choosing to exercise Pence style rules “no one-on-one closed-door meetings with women” that many of the professoriate have long instituted. The irony is that the abuse of their charms by a few opportunistic women will make men even more paranoid about working with women and all women will be further marginalized to a degree, hence reducing future informal social & networking interactions. Just as feminist activists and the usual social justice activists have been clamoring for more women in traditionally male careers and industries (only the prestigious & coveted high status ones of course…) as a result of the crusade against creeps, harassers and cads there will be an unintended consequence of chilling the climate between men and women reducing opportunities for women trying to earn their advancement honestly through achievement & performance.

In the early years of my (admittedly abortive and unsuccessful) career I couldn’t help notice how many opportunities the sweet young women were informally taken under the wing of the experienced old grey wolves… not to mention the more formal mentorship & training programs open exclusively to women. I’ll concede perhaps feminists are right that young women aren’t always taken “as seriously” as the young men, but judging from how these young women’s contributions were received I’d say they were not only valued more but also taken more seriously. Furthermore they were handled more forgivingly and with more patience
as they learned their jobs. Even if the “informal mentorship” of the young women wasn’t always a quid-pro-quo deal for sexual companionship, the guys in power certainly enjoyed the company of the charming young women (as many have admitted to me) and were more or less fairly compensated for their time & effort.

For the young guy rookies? Not much patience at all, under the motto:

    • Yes when I worked in corporate America, I observed that junior women got noticeably better assignments and working conditions than junior men. I can’t really blame the senior men for preferring to spend time with girls. I just object to feminist complaints about supposed discrimination among women in prestige professions when in fact the discrimination is in favor of women.

      October 20, 2017 at 3:48 pm

      • Discrimination has basically always been in favor of women. Historically and in modern times. Due to innate human psychology women are more willing to complain about hardship and taken more seriously when they do. For men, complaining about hardship is met with ridicule or deaf ears.

Feminists conned themselves into thinking that is some inherently ennobling enterprise. Nope. Now they are angry that despite being vastly favored in every type of desirable field (i.e. excluding garbageman, plumber, and other types of heavy-labor, low-status jobs) they don’t immediately get catapulted to the top for clocking in and clocking out. Meanwhile men are going the extra mile, working 10-12 hour shifts, coming in on weekends, and really busting ass to succeed.

It’s just common sense. I mean, why would I stick around? Hard to imagine that it’s different now at places like Goldman.

  10. Trump Wields The Arsenal of Capitalism for Fun & Corporate Profiteering

    https://pragmaticallydistributed.wordpress.com/2017/10/18/trump-wields-the-arsenal-of-capitalism-for-fun-corporate-profiteering/

    What would Lincoln do?

The number of reasons why the altright failed completely at everything it attempted are many.

    …………………….

Where the altright has failed inexcusably is in its fanatical rejection of Lincoln’s Structure.

Put simply, there is no room on the American rightwing for anything except Lincolnism because the Hamiltonian Nationalism saved by Lincoln and which then ran almost unopposed during America’s Golden Age retains – as a political system – dominance over all of the incentive structures influencing the American right wing:

    …………………….

If White Nationalism is the altright’s game they should not be embracing Hitler’s failed cause (which has even less chance of being resurrected in America than the Confederacy) when Lincoln was both the most successful white nationalist of all time and whose cause is more likely to blossom on its native soil.

Any viable American White Nationalism must be like Donald Trump: Centered around the legacy of Hamilton and Lincoln and geographically originate from Hamilton’s old stomping grounds of New York. Anything else is doomed.

So far as anyone knows Adolf Hitler never said he should have been more like Abraham Lincoln. But he should have. He may well have even thought it now and then as the curtain fell. Not just because an attitude towards Jews comparable to Lincoln’s would handed Adolf the bomb, nor just because cross-breeding Jewish males with busty Aryan shiksas in black leather uniforms is apparently racially synergistic, nor just because it would have swept Henry “Heinz” Kissinger into the upper echelons of the Nazi hierarchy where, even Kissinger’s countless enemies would admit, he would have made for a spectacular Nazi.

But he should have said so given how the military industrial complex FDR inherited from Lincoln was the only war machine powerful enough to crush Hitler’s formidable (though, not formidable enough) war machine.

  11. By the way, peoples’ reaction to the Weinstein fiasco is an interesting reflection on society’s gynocentrism. At bottom, all Weinstein did was trade acting opportunities for sex; various actresses traded sex for acting opportunities. And yet one party to the transaction is seen as sleazy at best and a criminal at worst. The other party is absolved as having been taken advantage of. Even though it’s well known that many girls f*ck and s*ck their way to the top, society is not ready to label this as sexual harassment.

I imagine most people would respond that their is a power imbalance in the relationship, that Harvey Weinstein was in a position of power and these girls, desperate for acting roles, were not. And yet when it comes to sex, women have far more market power than men. A woman, especially a young woman, can easily get sex from a man far more attractive than herself and he will come to her place to do it. The fact is that men as a group are desperate for female approval and sexual opportunities and a lot of women shamelessly take advantage of their sexual power to get stuff they want.

So why does society condemn men who abuse their status and financial power to get sex from women while failing to condemn with equal force women who abuse their sexual power to get status, money, and favors from men? Well that’s the funny thing: Everyone at a subconscious level knows that women are children and should not be held to the level of responsibility of men. That’s part of the reason why mutual drunken sex between a man and woman is considered misconduct on the part of the man (but not the woman) even though from an egalitarian standpoint, both parties should be seen as equally culpable (or not at all).

Which is all well and good, but we need to stop making public policy on the assumption that women should have the same rights as men (when it’s to womens’ advantage) but not the same responsibilities as men.

    • Agreed 100%. Women are / have been using the government as a surrogate father to get their way. Your biological father believing you are an angel who can do no harm is natural and has only limited potential for harm.
Big Daddy government treating all women as angels who can do no wrong destroys the lives of millions of men on capricious falsehoods, and wreaks further havoc by ennabling women’s worst self-destructive tendencies.

On the one hand they want to promote the narrative of poor innocent women ravaged by misogynistic sexual predators; on the other hand the ones doing the predating are pillars of the liberal establishment. 13. Obama was/is that rare/ perfect combination of a man with black skin and an upscale white psyche and it was this combination that made the masses love him. I think the good news is the Democrats will not be able to find that rare genetic combination anytime soon. I think the more sobering news is that post Trump’s second term, Republicans will have to find a candidates who in surface qualities at least will have to appeal to the black masses. As has been said countless times, blacks are low information voters and when they actually bother to show up to the polls, they vote en bloc and carry decisive numbers and that’s not about to change anytime too soon.

  18. “John Derbyshire related a report of a research psychologist (I can’t recall the name.) Who determined that many teenage girls have no internal conversation going on in their heads.”

Off topic, but this is interesting. Does everybody have internal conversations in their heads (except teenage girls)? I do constantly. I occasionally get caught by my wife and kids talking (mumbling) to myself. My resting condition is essentially thinking a conversation in my head.

Is this normal? A sign of intelligence? A sign of neurosis? This topic would be an interesting post.

    • Is this normal? A sign of intelligence? A sign of neurosis? This topic would be an interesting post.

My understanding, as a sometime fan of personality typing, is that internal conversations are generally a sign of intelligence and introversion. I do it, too – in fact there was a guy who produced a series of videos poking gentle fun at each MBTI type; in the one about my type, he asked, “Hey, [type], what’s going on in your head? Do you even know what’s going on in your own head?” The answers are “quite a lot” and “yes”, respectively, but the joke of course is that from the outside this may not be apparent.

I don’t at all, at all, think internal conversations are a sign of neurosis, in part because I have very low neuroticism according to Jordan Peterson’s psychology typing, and I still do it. It’s how I resolve things for myself.

On a different note, contributors are in rare form on this thread today, especially the “crab bowl” comment from “map”.

    • I somewhat doubt that the drive for fitness finds female intelligence to be a necessary or even useful pre-condition to reproduction and thus survival.

Sounds harsh, but should we really care how wise a female’s decision to reproduce is as long as someone other than the government is obligated to care for her and her baby? From the standpoint of moving as many problems out of the realm of government and back to individuals (and in reality individual males), I’d favor a return of the shotgun marriage rule, you knock her up, you marry her. Males will always be obligated to care for women and their offspring. I’d simply like to see a return to the days when I didn’t have to work to support the children of shiftless males. And, I don’t care how lesbians feel about this arrangement.

        October 22, 2017 at 9:43 pm

  21. By the way: isn’t the basic question of this post pretty mundane?

“What’s really going on in Hollywood?”

What’s going on in Hollywood is that producers are demanding sex for roles from aspiring actresses. It has been going on for as long as Hollywood has been Hollywood.

In one way, the current scandal is very similar to the Catholic Church sex scandal (I’m not the one that thought of this, by the way). Ever since I was a kid (40 years ago), there have been ‘priest/alter boy’ jokes. Ever since I was a kid, there has been cultural knowledge of the casting couch. There’s nothing suprising, new, or unknown here-its just that society is now publically acknowledging what has been widely known but not talked about for generations.

So the interesting question is not ‘What’s really going on in Hollywood?’ It is ‘What’s really going on in the media?’ Why is this information coming out now? Why are those in power of the media now willing to talk about it-or let it be addressed publically?

    anon

    October 21, 2017 at 1:19 pm

    • btw the incidence in the Catholic church is less than the general population. I doubt the same could be said of Hollywood.

“Why is this information coming out now? Why are those in power of the media now willing to talk about it-or let it be addressed publicly? ”

Its the same as Drudge publishing the Lewinski information- the press happily keeps thing hushed up but once the embargo is broken they all jump in.

I think Ronnan Farrow played NBC, NYT and New Yorker against each other. They all assumed that the other guy was about to publish and there for it was probably ok for them to go.
