NBC has to fire Matt Lauer

http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/29/media/matt-lauer/index.html

After the purges are finished, will there be any male news anchors left, or will TV news become entirely female?

But when Trump-hating liberals get fired for sexual misconduct, they are getting their just deserts. So I hope the purges continue.

* * *

Comment from fortaleza84:

I do think that there will be male news anchors in the future but they will be more like Mike Pence, i.e. super-cautious in terms of interacting with women.

What’s happening now is that the rules of the game are being changed retroactively. For high status men, anyway. For low status men, it’s always been the case that one complaint can get you fired. It’s just that for low status men in the workplace, it’s unusual for them to be in situations where they are alone with an attractive female co-worker.

https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/11/29/567241644/garrison-keillor-accused-of-inappropriate-behavior-minnesota-public-radio-says

And now the host of some NPR show I never heard of has been fired.

The purge continues!

http://www.startribune.com/garrison-keillor-reportedly-fired-for-improper-behavior/460802703/#1

In an email to the Star Tribune Wednesday, Keillor said, “I put my hand on a woman’s bare back. I meant to pat her back after she told me about her unhappiness and her shirt was open and my hand went up it about six inches. She recoiled. I apologized. I sent her an email of apology later and she replied that she had forgiven me and not to think about it. We were friends. We continued to be friendly right up until her lawyer called.”

Well he THOUGHT she was a friend, but she secretly hated him for being an old and ugly beta male.

  1. There was ONE complaint. ONE

    • Right. That’s nuts. Apparently this is the first complaint filed in his whole career. Do all his years of service count for nothing? It is astonishing that whole careers are vaporized in the blink of an eye. What is sexual harassment anyway? An unwanted come-on?

While it may be fun to witness this circular firing squad, where the hell are the voices of reason and also, where is the class? If someone must go, the classy thing is to simply let them retire ‘to spend more time with the family.’

I don’t see any of that.

Don’t these people have any friends at their organizations who will go to bat for them?

      • It’s a value transference career. Anyone can read the news on TV. (Well not anyone, but a lot of people who get paid much lower salaries but aren’t famous could do it just fine.)

  2. Also, the only men to survive the purge will be homos and simpering Betas. Seems gay harassment hasn’t been called to the carpet quite so dramatically.

    Socially Extinct

November 29, 2017 at EST am

    • Funny how that works. It is almost as if the oft stated claim that homosexuals were officially marginalized in the past because history had shown us what trouble they could cause as a cohesive and unencumbered group were true. Whatever your view of religion, there’s a lot of it that might simply be the consolidation of much hard earned wisdom put into a story-telling framework.

  3. The people that replace all these men are going to be worse for you and me in every single way except maybe they’ll be more incompetent. But women will be so riled up and angry that even if they are more incompetent it won’t matter.

      Lion of the Blogosphere

      • You’re attacking liberals by strengthening liberalism. It’s stupid. And all these men are just going to be replaced by women who are even more obnoxious and worse in every way save perhaps being less competent. But liberalism will have gained so much strength (in no small part because of all the STUPID conservatives going along with these attacks), especially from all the enraged women, that it’ll just be a complete disaster for conservatives even if the women replacing these men aren’t as competent.

      • You go on making feminist arguments in order to take down liberalism. That makes a lot of sense. You’re not damaging liberalism at all just strengthening the feminist faction relative to other (more benign) groups.

This is like all the idiot conservatives who thought it was a great idea to team up with big business to import a bunch of low wage third world workers. How did that work out? Sooner or later conservatives are going to have come to terms with just how stupid they are and the fact that they can’t make alliances to save their lives.

And even if high profile cases somehow remain overwhelmingly liberal, what about what is going on across the country below the media radar? You think that’s only going to take down liberal men?

        Magnavox

November 29, 2017 at EST am

      • Across the country, big corporations already will fire a low-level man with one complaint. Nothing changes for the regular man, the Big Men are getting a taste of what regular grunts face.

A civil war between liberals is good for conservatives.

      • God forbid the republican party should actually stick up for men, their primary constituency. And since conservatives have no interest in defending men then a democratic party more intent on hurting them will actually have terrible consequences for actual conservative voters. If the democrats became more anti corporate or anti rich there would be some chance of the republicans actually countering them. But there’s no chance of them doing anything if the democrats go after the GOP’s actual voters.

How are you this stupid? The Dems are no party for white men. The Dems want nothing to do with them.

One of the most significant mass realizations to come out of this purge is that Pence (who was mocked mercilessly over this) is not seen by everyone to have been right all along about his policy of dealing with women. It doesn’t get any more Trad and non-liberal than that.

British Leftist Media getting all worked up. Will be interesting to see if that happens here as any criticism will only cause more people to see the videos which are the type of inflammatory content the Leftist media is careful to never allow people to view. 5. I’ll be curious if more comes out about this single complaint.

But you know a lot of these guys are coming back, in one form or another. Marv Albert came back, and he was CONVICTED of his crimes. Of course, he generates content mostly for men.

The result will probably be that content intended for women (which I think includes the Today Show) will be populated mostly by women, gay men, and a few good-looking straight men with squeaky-clean records, but content intended for men will have a lot of guys who have been purged from female media.

    Wency

The women need to be investigated, and if they got anything from Lauer they should publicly shamed and have their careers ruined like Lauer’s was.

  9. “Simpering betas” won’t be immune to this. All that it takes is a woman claiming that you looked at her inappropriately (“he stared at my sweater in the wrong way / for too long”). Such a thing happened to a reasonably social friend of mine (ie: not a simpering beta).

Rationalizing who might be immune also serves to award women some type of logical process in their rationalizations for being upset or conniving. No such logic exists for enough of them.

All that it takes is dislike. All that group dislike takes is one woman. Everything else will fall into place, given the vulnerable environment (public facing, academia, government, etc). Your actions will be scrutinized and hated, and the actions of others will not. to such a degree. In this regard, the men that women do not find attractive will bear a disproportionate brunt of the overall witch hunt.

A mere accusation is now enough to allow a corporation to void a multimillion dollar contract it agreed to, giving unsavory people means to exact revenge on men they don’t like or whose position they covet. The incentives for accusation could not be higher– “victimhood” is now a career path for those willing to play with the ambiguities of human behavior to their benefit. Especially in media, where merely raising your profile can help land you lucrative jobs.

The witch hunt that Woody Allen warned of is on. LOTB is not the only New Yorker with predictive insight!

NBC canned Lauer before there’d even considered the merits of the complaint because they know this is exactly how media outlets work to perpetuate a story over a news cycle… any probationary period for Lauer would’ve brought great pressure on NBC, its producers and other anchors. This way, NBC can opt out of a pricey contract, ensure that Lauer has almost no chance to work for a competitor, temporarily drive up rubberneck ratings, and look like the corporate white knight who doesn’t tolerate grabass in the ranks.

      • I don’t think it’s that easy. If you are a man who attains some degree of status and power, suddenly girls start treating you very differently. They are eager to spend time with you; if you meet them for a cup of coffee, they don’t come late, they don’t flake at the last minute for some ridiculous reason; they don’t take cell phone calls while you are together; and they dress nicely for you. Perhaps most importantly, they are interested in learning about you.

If you are a man in this situation, what are you supposed to do? Normally when a girl acts this way towards you, it’s an indication that she is very much sexually interested. If a girl acts towards you as if she is sexually interested, and you are interested in her, the naturally thing is to make a sexual advance and see what happens. But unfortunately, just about any sexual advance can be spun as sexual harassment if it turns out to have been unwelcome.

And a lot of these girls have no interest in having sexual relations or a sexual relationship with the men in question, they are just hoping — consciously or subconsciously — that the man will do nice things for them simply because they deign to pay attention to him. But then again, some of them probably really do want to take things further.

So if you are a man with status and power, the only way to be safe is to refrain from hitting on any girls in connection with work and to avoid any situation which could be spun as sexual harassment.

The situation involving Thrush is instructive. One of the girls who accused him was with him at an informal gathering of journalists at a bar. She said right in the article that he was the sort of person who would be good to know. The gathering broke up and dwindled down to the two of them, sitting alone in a booth together. Thrush allegedly put his hand on her bare leg (apparently wearing a miniskirt) and tried to kiss her. She rebuffed his advance, pushed past him, and left.

The first point of the story is that this girl could have easily left with the other guests but instead lingered with Thrush; she was dressed at least somewhat provocatively. It seems pretty clear that she wanted to make use of his status and connections and was at least interested in paying him special attention to get what she wanted. Second, she had to have known that any man in that situation would see her actions as a green light to make a pass at her. Third, he in fact did make a pass at her but it was pretty mild and evidently he desisted once it became clear his advances were unwelcome. But even given all this, she still perceived his conduct as inappropriate.

Like I said above, the only safe thing for Thrush to have done would have been to refrain from hitting on this girl and give up the possibility of a sexual relationship with her. As I said, to be super-cautious.

      • Well, for one, don’t do what Matt Lauer did – drop your pants in front of chicks in your office.

Leave the door open. Disable that lock underneath your desk.

WRT Thrush, he had a habit of collaring male colleagues and forcing them to listen to his tales of White Knighting…which turns out to be the exact opposite. This is clearly sociopath behavior.

But you do raise an issue that has some merit. What does a successful man do? All successful people are at risk of mistreatment and exploitation by lower rank loser types. My advice is to go to a successful man and ask him how he deals with this. Read Maimonides. He counsels ignoring most people, brushing them off politely, as if they are gnats.

Now go make your first billion.

  16. In terms of the big picture, it’s difficult to say if this is a good thing.

If things stay at about the same intensity, I would say it’s pretty good. Some leftist hypocrites get their just desserts; perhaps more importantly, it will become harder for Left-wing institutions to attract and retain competent leadership.

But if things get more intense, things could get pretty bad for men.

  17. Things aren’t slowing down. This panic is speeding up.

Garrison Keillor is out today. Also a top dog at NPR. Garrison Keillor’s end saddens me. He is a real talent.

The thing with Charlie Rose and Garrison Keillor is that I cannot imagine them ever forcing themselves on anybody. They are extremely genteel and excessively polite.

These men should make the rubble bounce. They should speak out against their own mistreatment.

I imagine there is abject terror among powerful men today.

    • Perceptions can vary. I always thought Keillor was an asshole, so this doesn’t surprise me at all — maybe only to the extent that Public Radio actually pulled the trigger on him. He was like the carpet in the living room for that format. It wasn’t what you came for but you expected it to be there.

Charlie Rose has always seemed like a classic beta creep. It’s noteworthy that the people being shoved out the door are not those guys who are well-known ladies’ men (which implies some panache), like Harrison Ford or Warren Beatty. It’s guys you always knew were strange or not quite top-shelf like Kevin Spacey. Rose is weird-looking and unlikely to be the guy women fantasize about, so when he comes onto them like he’s a big star it horrifies.

  18. A liberal twist on a comment of President Johnson’s in the 1960s: When we have lost Garrison Keillor we have lost America.

Let the carnage continue. Isn’t there a single Alpha amongst these pencil necked scribblers?

Thinking back to a quote of Joe Namath’s, way back in 1969, preparing for Super Bowl III. In the week before the big game he was out in a Miami nightclub, sipping Johnny Walker, with two beautiful young lovelies at his side. The interview mentioned the presence of the two lovelies, implying that this is not good for the training regimen. Joe’e response: “I like having pretty girls around me. It makes me feel good”. Simple straightforward Alpha response to a proto sports writer SJW.

Rules: never apologized, never grovel. Only makes SJWs bare their fangs.

Older men really have to get a grip. You may have money, status, power, recognition, but you are still old, with flabby skin, a stooped body, no muscle tone, bald or balding. You carry around that old man smell, etc.

How many handsome 20 years old dudes would be attracted to a broken down 60 year old lady, notwithstanding her wealth and previous fame? Zero. Unless he is gay, and hopes to squeeze and inheritance out of her.

There are countless examples of young chicks and old men. Yes, the chicks are “into” his money, power, and status, not his body, but so what? It is ALWAYS true, at all ages, that for men, money/power/status trumps looks. An older guy has to have more money/power/status to get a hot chick than a young guy, but chicks will STILL be “into” the older guy (however physically repulsive) if he’s got enough money/power/status.

Of course it also helps if he has some charm (game) and is not merely a repulsive creepy reptile with money/power/status like Weinstein.

I haven’t watched a regular newscast in years, even national.

Papers and newscasts will be gone in 10 years, especially local.

The companies I have worked for would only state “so and so is not eligible for rehire” , am I wrong? It sure seems like NBC and MPR are telling everyone why they fired Lauer and Keillor, do they have grounds for a lawsuit?

  27. One important fact about Lauer is he is married. Some of his affairs were consensual…although I’m sure many of the women involved had motives. One of my worst things about life is that so many married men, especially rich powerful men, have affairs and our society turns a blind eye to it. This is actually quasi polygamy and it impacts the entire sexual marketplace. Because of cheating married men many other men will be single their entire lives.

I for one am tremendously enjoying seeing men like Matt Lauer get destroyed. Just because he is a man doesn’t mean I am on the same team as him. Yes the fact that most of these media guys being caught are liberal makes this all the more satisfying….they are showing what hypocrites they are since liberalism is supposed to be pro-woman.

If I am on the side of feminists on this one fine. Seeing this witch hunt is my favorite news story of 2017. There is some significant change going on in our culture…I welcome it and find it downright exciting.

    • “This is actually quasi polygamy and it impacts the entire sexual marketplace. Because of cheating married men many other men will be single their entire lives.”

Eh so what. No-fault divorce is also quasi polygamy that affects the entire marketplace. A rich man who has four wives in succession through divorce (not by cheating) has denied wives the three other men. He’s not going to marry women who already have kids, and his ex-wives are unlikely to have more kids; therefore, he has denied other men the opportunity to reproduce.
