New York Times reports that Trump is successfully moving the Overton window

with 168 comments

Those aren’t exactly the words used by the article, but here is what was written:

In fact, some analysts saw the remarks as fitting a pattern of crude, dehumanizing and racist language to describe migrants and asylum seekers that has steadily edged its way into the mainstream. Coming from the White House, such words may be taken by some as a broader signal that racism is now an acceptable part of political discourse.

“What we see now is a conscious policy to reintroduce language that was previously not acceptable in debate,” said Gerald Knaus, the director of the European Stability Initiative, a Berlin-based research organization that has played a leading role in forming recent European migration policy.

I disagree with the use of the word “racism,” but for liberals like the guy writing the article there is no difference between “racism” and sane observations of reality. Furthermore Trump is not smart enough for this to be part of a 4D chess-master strategy so “conscious” is also the wrong word, he’s just talking like the construction workers he hung out with in the 1950s or early 1960s when he went to work with his father, because that’s who he is.

But the point here is that the Overton window is being moved. Trump is the greatest president of my lifetime despite being a Mr. Magoo who can’t manage the White House.

CNN is non-stop talking about the “shithole” incident. As if a President using a swear word in what was supposed to be a private meeting is the most important event to happen in the last decade. Didn’t they watch House of Cards? That’s how politicians talk in private.

  1. I’m surprised my local paper used shithole on the front page without any censoring.

    • And I thought CNN uncensoring it was bad. This is definitely evidence of the deleterious march of the masses towards degenerating standards – the downward movement of culture towards the profane and not the sacred.

It all started with no longer needing to wear a hat in public.

    • A lot of this is weird. The MSM fawns on guys like Lenny Bruce and Quentin Tarantino for mainstreaming profanity and what was formerly taboo, then claims to be shocked — shocked! — by Trump’s “vulgarity,” in a private conversation, using a word that literally everyone in America has said in their life.

    • It did occur to me that my parents and grandparents would have been irritated, had the word “shithole” shown up in the news this much, when I was a kid.

I remember when was about 12 and my mother had to explain anal sex to me, when I found a reference to homosexual intercourse in our local paper. I think it bothered her.

  2. The media is incessantly haranguing the general public about racism, bigotry, hate, etc. They are perpetuating more division in society. I wonder if everyone would be better off if they put a moratorium on these divisive idiotic articles.

There are two possibilities: the media is truly stupid because these “stories” only perpetuate more anger or they are truly evil because they know the effect this will have on society. I suspect the latter.

      • Yeah but the website would have been much more difficult to maintain, no? And the internet community of skeptics wasn’t as formed as it is now, right? I think Sabril is right… if there had been websites like this during the Rodney King trials, perhaps LA would not have burned. I didn’t know at that point how videos can lie. I didn’t know that King had two buddies in the car (or three?), and they had complied, and that the cops tried their best to subdue a huge man without deadly force. Knew none of that. As we all know, events spiraled out of control because one side controlled the narrative.

Before the net, Zimmerman would have hung, and Wilson would have been in prison right now, I am convinced.

  5. Pretty funny that all the hand wringing, do-gooding, bed wetting libtards are clutching their pearls over Trump’s accurate depiction of the 3rd world, when:

    1. They insist these people cannot be sent back to those places, presumably because they are precisely what Trump has said the are, and

    2. They undoubtedly use that very same language to describe rural America, especially the south.

FWIW, I did not have any strong feelings about immigration one way or another until I reached my late 20s. It was at that point that my employer had me begin traveling to Latin America on company business, and I saw firsthand what these places were like. They were nothing like the Mexican American parts of the Los Angeles of my youth, and were in fact far, far worse. All it took was seeing that, plus the levels of corruption and dysfunction in these places to make me realize that anything that made my country more like those places was to be avoided. But our elected officials either have no idea, or they see that sort of set up as something they can personally benefit from, so they allow it to happen, or perhaps more accurately actively foment it.

  8. Tucker Carlson was taking advantage of this Overton window-move last night. He was absolutely on point, or at least as close as it’s possible to be while keeping one’s job. He was talking about how America isn’t just defined by abstract ideas, it has an actual people, and if you replaced 300 million Americans with 300 million Chinese or Nigerians it wouldn’t be the same country. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, even on Fox News.

  10. LOTBLO, I expected you to call Trump out for having attitudes that violate HBD principles. Nigerians do much better here than average Americans and most other immigrants when it comes to both education and income. Haitians do pretty well, too, in terms of being employed at least. The only reason Trump doesn’t like them is because they’re black. And I thought we’d hear something from David Alexander of Haitian descent, does he still come around anymore?

Since when is it an HBD principle to welcome a lot of immigrants from shitty places? Why should my children have to compete with high-IQ Nigerian strivers who’d rather flee the nest then clean it up?

Were my farmer ancestors taming the land so that Jeb Bush could give it away to foreigners who do well on aptitude tests? I didn’t realise being a cuck was an HBD principle.

    • I’ve had extensive contact with african (mostly liberian) and haitian immigrants and their kids. It’s true the ones who make it here are probably a notch up from the ones who stay behind. They value education and stay employed, often in the healthcare sector. However nyc may give a distorted view of immigrant ‘quality’ as the most ambitious may gravitate here despite the cost of living.

This doesn’t mean we should be letting them in; the US standard of living is far too precarious to allow admission to anyone but the utmost qualified. Even then maybe not. It’s like those zombie shows- do you protect your own or try to save everyone? More often than not the best answer is the former.

    • @Sheila Tone, HBD takes into account IQ distribution. Nigeria with a population of 187M has an elite that is pretty smart and not small. It will go up to 287M by 2050. But the mean IQ is low. We don’t want them coming here in their millions. That said, HBD is rather limited in that it doesn’t take culture and assimilation into account. Assimilation = intermarriage. If 50M Nigerians flood the US then the US will no longer be a white country. That’s either good or bad, but it’s not a neutral fact.

I say it’s bad, because I don’t want to be a racial minority.

I’ve had the same experience in academia. You can’t slap a degree or a title on someone with lower brain volume and expect similar institutional or workplace results as you would get with a Germanic, North Asian, or Jewish workforce. The quality is going to fall, period. In fact, just one or two of them will have competent people constantly apologizing for their work. They actually nullify the productivity of the other workforce. It’s not a surprise that they can’t sustain institutions. Doing so literally takes a large team of perfectly competent people, otherwise everything reduces dramatically.

    • First, those suppose statistics on “Nigerians” account for cherry picked individuals who get Visas. Some for the very education that you are counting as a group statistic. They aren’t statistics for a random group, as you present and that would be representative of the type of immigration that is being discussed.

Put any actual group of random Nigerians against any white group and they will lose badly.

Your very premise is flawed, as well. This entire nation, to include the language that you are typing in, is our product. You are telling us that your group is better at the system that we invented than we are?

Up through the 1950-60s New York area Swedish Americans were looked down upon, much like the Guidos and Irish were. Drinking, fighting, drug use, petty crime, girls getting pregnant. The whole prole mess. My friend’s father reported as such. He shared a Bronx neighborhood with Swedes from the 1920s through the 1950s and didn’t think much of Swedes. Danes and Norwegians were a different matter. None of the dysfunction of the Swedes. Still, I would rather share a neighborhood with the most dysfunctional Swedes than with the best behaved NAMs, or Asians for that matter.

Next to her was contrasted by a raven hair woman with a Mediterranean complexion from Spain, full of exuberance and confidence while displaying the countless volumes of Don Quixote and books about the Spanish conquest in the New World.

I’m surprised you say that. There’re more Norwegians in the US than Norway.

If you meant recent immigrants they are small in number as Euros are discriminated against or at least not favored by current immigration law.

trump’s point is that people from low HDI countries are much less likely to increase GDP per capita for americans. the norwegians who move here are probably very well paid. there’s even a norwegian hedge fund billionaire who moved to the US for bidness school.

      • “Shithole” is a specific, if crude, term. In general, it means a place that is unkempt (trash, sewage, run-down villages, etc). A healthy amount of violence also helps. Geography can also have something to do with it (ie: Dubai is a shithole). Unless you need everything to be new, it doesn’t really just apply to poverty. You’d be hard pressed to find any truly Germanic shitholes.

        Some things about Norway:

It’s a newer nation that was before more of a kept territory, and as such it was a backwater with a sparser population. Thus, its not a great historical example of anything, better nor worse. Sweden has always been the primary territory for the Nords, though their main physical location, currently, splits the difference between Norway and Sweden. Norway is actually the least genetically true Nordic of the Scandi nations, containing a majority “native” population that better resembles that of the Netherlands.

Scandanavia has rough Geography, economically speaking. In general, mountainous regions are impoverished because you can’t farm them. Yes, economy has a geography. The Nords didn’t even evolve there, but later moved there. I would venture this was to escape the constant warring of the Neolithic period, and to genetically isolate themselves from the Slavs and other hunter gatherer groups the best that they could. Though, they did do a significant amount of mixing with the R1b hunter gatherer group.

Today, because of oil, Norway is doing well. Sweden, minus its outward politics, is a success in spite of its nasty geography. Most other nations don’t do as well with better geography, which becomes more true the further south that one travels.

    • To Norwegians this country (USA) would be a shithole. Think about it. Unless they were motivated by nothing other than making money hand over fist, what possible reason for a Norwegian to immigrate to usa.
But for Chinese and Indian middle class and lower middle class, usa is the gateway to comfortable life and possibly wealth some day. You will not be seeing truly wealthy from these countries to try to immigrate here either other than to park their assets.

The best among them will want to travel the world, make money, live in mansions, bang exotic women from allover the world, and generally live the high live. The best base from which to do all of this is the USA.

      • The Vikings were actually farmers, having descended from the group that brought farming to Europe. They were essentially the group for whom sedentary landholding would have been most important.

The hunting and gathering groups that they met here would have been more apt to travel and conquer.

The vikings have been essentially made into a caricature. I wouldn’t trust the popular vision of them. Sure, they were warriors, as were the farming hoplites in Greece. They could fuck, fight, build ships, and move when necessary. However, remember that they also were able settle in and rule England.

BTW, when Trump talks about the immigration mess, it’s time for him to “dance with the one who brung you.” We don’t need any more bogus immigration “deals” that allow more immigration and fix nothing. In 1986, the Simpson-Mazzoli Act was supposed to take care of this – it was supported by many Republicans and signed by President Reagan (who was pretty worthless on immigration). It was supposed to provide strict border security, mandatory verification of legal residence status by employers (with criminal penalties for failure to do so) and legalization for 3 million carefully vetted immigrants. In fact, none of this happened. The border wall is either going to get built or not. If it doesn’t, Trump’s base will feel he betrayed them and stay home on election day in 2020. The same thing that happened to Bush I, who broke his pledge on taxes and ended up getting whomped in his reelection bid in 1992 when his base stayed home. Time to listen up, Donald!

Conservatives are gentlemen and ladies, and going against the mainstream narrative is for the dirty working class and uncultured. In other words, as you can see by their demographic balance (they swim in blacks), everything is fine as long as the GOP tells them that it is. At least until their kids start wearing bowl-cuts.

Nordic nations are particularly totalitarian with their brands of feminism, multiculturalism, anti gun mania, and thought control.

The US is a country of frontier men and as such the idea that the government can be relied upon for protection is dubious.

Also socialized medicine is stupid. Would you socialize chewing gum? Of course not, it’s dirt cheap. So to can medicine be cheap if it was just a free market again without insurance’s regulatory capture.

Socializing medicine also means the state is defacto making life/death decisions. For all the benefits of universal healthcare, the idea of a state actor deciding who is worthy of living and dying just feels unsavory. I guess it comes down to living with principles versus living without. Few people are willing to die for honor/dignity.

I know some dunce is going to reply that “the private sector making that decision is so much better, hurr durr gotchya!” The truth is that in private hands money rules, whereas in public sector hands, favoritism and beauracratic back scrating controls this. That’s a recipe for increased corruption and power brokerism. It’s also anti American because it means two equivalent patients don’t have the same fair shot at being treated. Whoever is friends with the local beauracrat gets to live. With money, outside of a very rich few, it’s mostly an equal competition between hard working peers.

What really is at stake here is not immigration policy, but freedom of speech. This is the great wall trump managed to breach without injury. Freedom of speech is the sheer foundation of democracy and the leftists have successfully dismantled the tenet over the last ~50 years, replacing it with an unlegislated but nonetheless oppressive iron fist. Think of the people whose careers and livelihoods were destroyed because they uttered ONE wrong word decades ago. ONE WORD. That’s the kind of power they mustered and still muster, trump notwithstanding.

They still control schools, 99% of media, and the clemency trump is granting will not outlast him. Once they regain power they’ll be more soul thirsty than before. Even in the unlikely event they do not regain power, the ability to autonomously maintain a ‘conservative’ life- marriage, safe neighborhood, non violent schools for your children, prospects for those children – have been so viciously eroded by the system (not necessarily just leftists) that it will become a matter of compliance or wither away.

Similarly, those things that you added can all disappear and, fundamentally, you still are an individual of your Father’s haplotype. Thus, you have a fundamental identity with fundamental traits.

As recently as a century ago or less, there was no meaningful “white” identity. You belonged to a much more specific tribe. Being “white”, or not being any identified race, is much more liberal than what traditional western culture ever allowed for.

Today, large swaths of people still fundamentally identify with their Father’s lineage. Reverting to that mode is the only thing that will save the West. Danes, Dutch, French, British, and Italian “whites” are never going to create anything so functional or pleasant all living together. They’re all different people. • Which is why Minnesota votes solid Democratic.

      • Minnesota is full of Scandi people, and its actually a bit purple. It’s not that solid dem.

Cities are dem, by their nature. Unless they are without a significant economy. Most minorities live within city limits. Though, that’s not really the primary reason that cities are liberal everywhere.

The Twin Cities throws the State voting off, and the locals made sure to draw the city limits very tightly around that city (well, in encloses a little farmland and wealthy lake territory to the west). The state is not that densely populated, which is why the Twin Cities vote defines the State so completely. However, except for a couple of counties to the East and Northeast of the city, the counties outside of the city are a healthy Red in comparison with the rest of America. Even the suburbs of Dallas aren’t any better (Dallas also being Blue).

    • I support this – transparency of wages helps labor in negotiations.

      • It may help the average, but it makes it harder to distinguish yourself. It undermines that reward relationship that you have with your boss. I want to be the best tech, I want to be compensated according and I don’t think it’s anyone’s business to know my finances. Norway is a terrible place.

Maybe Vikings shared the booty in a similar way? That would make sense because everybody risked their lives. I’m sure that chiefs took a bigger share, but it makes sense to share equally among the people of the same rank. Who knows.

        Just an absolutely horrible place.

Magna should go there before he talks. I’m sure Trump had no idea about it. Interesting that they don’t flock to the US. If think the real Vikings were different, they discovered America before Columbus, but these people have lost their ancestors’ souls.

    • I’d venture that type of transparency works okay in a high trust (homogeneous) and relatively isolated society full of long time horizon individuals.

In a low trust heterogeneous society, which invites the world, I imagine that it would lead to a lot of fraud, lawsuit, and political targeting of certain individuals based on what others can find out about their pay.

      • Read the article. The country has a tax rate of 40%, people are envious of of the rich and are encourage to snitch on each other. It’s an Orwellian place. There is something wrong with them.

      • The blue-collar worker, the little guy, the average Joe, however you want to describe him, is better off in Norway than the U.S. He has much better economic security and far less worry than his U.S. counterpart.

On the other hand, if you’re aggressive and have top-notch credentials you’re better off in the U.S.

      • People are envious of the rich everywhere, to include in Israel.

The effective tax rate in the US isn’t much less than 40%, and its equal or greater to 40% in much of the world.

I look at overall social results, similar as we all do here with various groups. Using that common method, Norway is better than fine. Though, I’m not saying that publishing salaries is ideal. No place is ideal.

I’ve read you making over-arching psychological diagnosis of Europeans before. much of which comes off as opportunistic and it is usually well over-reaching. The consistency comes off as generalized hostility.

If you want to go head -to-head in psychologically diagnosing Jews and North Europeans, we can do that. Let me know.

      • But why is it necessary to make everybody’s finances public to help the little guy?

Aggression is a biological male trait. They are breeding out aggression and destroying their Viking race. An absolutely hire be place. I just hate it.

Saw Iceland crush Tunisia in handball last night. Now those were some aggressive Vikings! Great team! Was a pleasure to watch.

      • ‘People are envious of the rich everywhere, to include in Israel.’

When I came to America 40 years ago, I didn’t find people envious of the rich. It was a unique country in that respect. Maybe things are different now, but this is how they were historically over here.

I’m not an expert or a scholar like Lion or Jayman and have no pretenses of being one, I’m just looking at things with a common sense approach. Historically when aliens invaded your land, you either exterminated them or they would destroy you. Nordic countries are leading the way in rejecting this universally true paradigm. They also lead the way in sexual permissiveness, atheism, pc, and imposing a nanny state on their population. This is what triggers my hostility because it’s bad for the world and bad for the Jews. I like it when they are true to their Viking self, which nowadays you can only see in sports competition and are a pleasure to watch.

From what I’ve said, I hope that you understand that I’m not the right person to go head-to-head with you, mate, nor am I interested in doing so.

  31. Ever noticed that countries we get immigrants from do NOT provide women that white men find attractive and would like to marry?

ALL low level jobs are taken by immigrant women who beta males outrank, but have no interest in.
