Star Trek Discovery S01E11 “The Wolf Inside”

I suspected that Philippa Georgiou would turn out to be the emperor! Why else keep the identity of the emperor secret unless there was going to be a big surprise?

Michael Burnham is still too dense to figure out that Lorca has always been the evil Lorca from the Mirror universe. If I can figure it out at home, why can’t she use her allegedly superior Vulcan logic to figure it out?

  1. One of the guys on the Greatest Discovery podcast last week said that he figured the emperor was probably Georgiou, but it would be cool it turned out to be Kirk instead. Once again, Discovery underwhelms.

  2. This week’s episode was a let down compared to last week.

I assume that perpetual screw up Burnham’s actions in postponing the orbital bombardment of the
Alliance base will eventually lead to the survivors forming the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance that enslaves the mirror universe humanity within a few years.

    Lorca is gold as always.

Intrigued by the ending with the two Stametzes meeting.

  3. The Defiant that Burnham mentioned is from the episode “the Tholian Web” IIRC. Then the same Defiant appeared again in the ENT two part episode “In a Mirror, Darkly I & II” which takes place in the mirror universe but during Archer’s time. So the Defiant they are looking for is now visually different. If Discovery is a continuation, prequel, of TOS or the JJ movies then their constitution class vessel looks like unlike the other constitution class ships from TOS or the JJverse. Does this mean the Discovery universe is actually its own universe? I hope so because it sucks.

  4. Obvious plot hole: after Tyler flips out and attacks the leader of The Resistance, Sarek should have done a mind meld with Tyler to establish his bona fides and uncover his secrets and motives. This would have ruined the big reveal in the next scene, however.

  5. I don’t think Lorca is the Mirror universe Lorca. He already has a prime universe backstory that explains why Lorca is the way he is. After all, he was almost relieved of command because of it. Also, it’s hard to believe that a Mirror Universe Lorca would come up with a plan that puts him back as a prisoner of the empire, and trapped in an agony booth for days…weeks?

Anyway I’m really loving these Mirror Universe episodes! There is a tension created by them being undercover and could be caught any second.

  6. Are you going to get around to those movie reviews?

I think you should do an 80s retrospective. Start with the oeuvre of the various brat pack members, Lowe, Moore, Nelson, etc. There’s several movies if you assemble the whole group together, most not bad. Watched one this weekend, Class, starring Lowe and Andrew McCarthy. Was enjoyable.

    • “Are you going to get around to those movie reviews?”

I reviewed Get Out and The Shape of Water already. I plan to watch all of the Oscar-nominated movies before Oscar day.
