Star Trek Discovery S01E12 Vaulting Ambition

Spoiler, don’t read if you don’t want the ending ruined

Finally, they reveal what was obvious to viewers since the episode where the jumped into the alternate universe. Lorca is from the Mirror universe. But we also learn that Michael Burnham and Lorca were lovers in this universe, and that Phillipa was Michael’s stepmother, instead of Sarek being her stepfather.

The problem now is that I don’t see how Lorca manages to still be the captain in Season 2, and Lorca is the best character in the series, and the best Starfleet Captain since Kirk.

  1. Most on ResetEra saying that it is time to cave. Word seems to be that Dem resolve is breaking.

Looks like a temp deal tomorrow to keep the gov open for 3 weeks but I don’t see how that changes anything, won’t we be in the same position 3 weeks from now?

One thing that we do have as leverage is that in 3 weeks we’ll be more ready for a shutdown whereas Dems will have less stomach to do this whole process again.

    • Unless Dem resolve is breaking in the Mirror Universe, you should post that somewhere else.

  2. I will admit, I didn’t see Lorca being from the Mirror Universe. I figured, just because the guy is a psychopath, doesn’t mean he’s an evil doppelganger. The Prime Universe has plenty of psychopaths. So that brings up some obvious questions:

    1. How did he enter our universe in the first place? I assume by the mycelial network, since he knew how to use it to return, but if so…why go back? He’s a wanted criminal in the mirror universe.

    2. At what point did he come to the prime universe? How much of Lorca’s backstory is his actual backstory? Was it mirror Lorca who destroyed his own ship or original Lorca?

    3. Where is the Prime Universe Lorca? What happened to him?

Another thing is how creepy Mirror Lorca is. The emperor said that he groomed Mirror Burnham as first a father figure, than a lover. So Mirror Lorca, besides everything else, is some kind of child molester. Is that even wrong in the Mirror Universe?

Interestingly, I’m no longer interested in Tyler/Voq.

    • Yup, the tension in the Voq/Tyler reveal seems to have completely dissipated. The main story, Lorca-Burnham-Georgiou, is far more interesting. They may do something interesting with Voq later though.

    • You must have missed my theory, which explains that all Star Trek villains and psychopaths are from the Mirror Universe, since the Federation has banned villainy and psychopathy in our universe.

  3. The Emperor fearing cultural contamination from the United Federation of Planets was highly prescient.

Nice parallel between the Klingons and the Terran Empire both wisely seeing the danger of the Federation.

    Lorca’s masterplan has come together.

Discovery v. Charon: Charon would seem to have the slight advantage. They have Defiant technology, which is ten years more advanced than Discovery. Although, it is possible that the Temporal Cold War led to some enhancements in Discovery era starfleet vs. the original series era starfleet.

  4. I don’t see how Lorca survives without some cop-out where Michael saves him and brings him back. He won’t be in charge of Discovery either. What would the Federation do with someone from the mirror universe? People from there can’t be rehabilitated. Maybe Lorca becomes the Emperor and plans an invasion of the Federation.

  5. I thought the death of the doctor would mean no more gay kissing. I feel cheated.

    • Nah man, he has become one with the Force (mycelial/midichlorian network), so expect more appearances of Force ghost doctor.

    • Gay killing survives death. It’s a real Angels in America scenario.
