Comey and Indian body odor

Comey’s relationship with Trump is like my relationship with Indian body odor.

Comey has a deep and burning hatred for Trump, but instead of saying anything about that to Trump when he had the opportunity, he stoically kept quiet, and now he complains about him in a book.

I hate the disgusting odor of certain Indian IT workers, but instead of telling them that they smell and they should shower and use deodorant and wear clean underwear everyday, I just complain about it on my blog. (Recently, one Indian guy whom I know smells really bad said he would come to my desk to discuss something, but I was successfully able to head that off by calling him on the phone. One small victory against Indian B.O.)

Therefore, it would be hypocritical of me to complain about Comey.

  1. Never having met one, I’m interested in this Indian BO question. What kind of smell is it? Does it have to do with the type of food they eat? Is it just very pugnant or is it different in kind to White BO? Have you ever overheard others breaking PC and commenting on it? Are there any Northeast Asians working with you? They probably really hate those Indians.

    • “Have you ever overheard others breaking PC and commenting on it?”

Only on the internet, never at work.

  2. You have written about Indian body odor several times already. To bring it up yet again on an unrelated issue (Comey’s view of Trump) is low-class on your part.

    April 13, 2018 at 8:42 AM

    • I agree that it’s low-class. It’s unseemly and cruel.

It reminds me of a friend’s daughter — upper-middle-class Jewish New Yorker, well brought up, health-conscious, clean, bathes daily — who rented a room at a private home in Paris for several months. When she left, the woman proprietor told another girl who was renting a room there (the two girls were friends) that she’d “had to wash the sheets twice to get the Jew smell out.”

I think Lion’s concern with ethnic body odor is just as troubling.

      April 13, 2018 at 12:56 PM

      • Maybe you don’t have to smell it the way I do.

      • Seemingly, Lion’s trope “to garner enough status and income to avoid undesirables and riff-raff” is apparent here.

Hyper-aware individuals without the privilege need to remove themselves from American civilization.

      • It’s doubtful that any of the Indians at BIGLAW smell. On the other hand, once this Indian girl at the NYU LLM program showed up to class smelling.

      • In NYC and in academia I’ve dealt with lots of Jews and Indians, and I know the Indian smell Lion is talking about, but I don’t know of any particular Jewish smell. Can somebody describe this Jewish smell?

(I’ll note that not every Indian I have dealt with smells—as Lion suggests, this smell is probably largely an issue with individuals who don’t wash themselves and their bodies as often as your typical American.)

        April 13, 2018 at 4:00 PM

      • With the exception of a few FOB Chinese and Koreans who smell from garlic, the only body odor problems I’ve encountered at work and school have 100% been Indians. Sometimes on the NYC subways in the summer, you encounter a black person who has bad B.O.

    • You don’t like him saying it? Well, he doesn’t like being subjected to it. No one should have their senses assaulted whether by foul odors or excessive noise. I’ve been subjected to both from time to time and it’s inexcusable. Since this topic bothers you so much maybe you should stop blaming the victim and start telling them to take a bath. Better yet, maybe they’ll start telling their co-ethnics to take a bath.

      April 13, 2018 at 1:26 PM

    • Why is it low class? That would generally only be if he brought it up to the Indians in question. And even then “low class” is stretching it. More, it would be only very slightly ill mannered in a mannered system that is very strict. In reality, there is workplace hygiene issue that will likely be addressed in some manner eventually.

      April 13, 2018 at 3:06 PM

      • “Why is it low class?”

High class people know that you never talk about lesser races in bad light, because that’s racist, and it’s low class to be racist.

  3. What should Comey have said? Is it Comey’s responsibility to explain something as basic and self evident as the idea that the president shouldn’t be able to control investigations into himself? Is it even possible to explain such a thing to Trump?

      Andrew E.

      April 13, 2018 at 9:48 AM

    • No, the problem is that Comey and Mueller are conducting nothing more than partisan-based opposition research on behalf of the Democratic Party, but disguise this opposition research as a legal investigation akin to going after organized crime.

Remember, the public was sold on the merits of Mueller’s investigation based on the belief that actual crimes were committed. Instead, Mueller is conducting a partisan witch hunt. What is worse, he has revealed the prosecutorial abuses typically used in pursuing criminal cases.

      April 13, 2018 at 9:52 AM

      • The concern with Russian interference into the election is completely bipartisan. And the public does not have to be sold on the merits of investigations although considering Trumps approval rating I bet there is public support.

Trump just sucks at getting he wants in politics, whether it be from congress or the DOJ. That’s the real issue: he’s a bad politician.

        April 13, 2018 at 11:57 AM

      • So what you’re saying is that, if Trump were a better politician, congress would be clamoring for balanced trade and to end abusive immigration?

        April 13, 2018 at 1:36 PM

      • Magnavox,

No, the concern is a swamp concern, not a bipartisan one.

The swamp has a made-up story about Russian interference.

        April 13, 2018 at 3:15 PM

      • If Trump were a better politician we wouldn’t have to wait for congress to clamor for those things. It’s Trump’s weakness that allows congress to keep getting what they want. He’s a lazy ignoramus who is constantly needlessly antagonizing people.

        April 13, 2018 at 3:32 PM

      • It is a blessing that Mueller has revealed the prosecutorial abuses and tactics. I was truly naive before this and held the FBI in high esteem. Thank you Mueller and Comey for teaching us naive folks to distrust the FBI and hold it in contempt.

        April 13, 2018 at 3:55 PM

      • “It’s Trump’s weakness that allows congress to keep getting what they want.”

Trump may not be an experienced politician but that’s not the problem. If you think otherwise then you really aren’t playing in the same league as the rest of us. All the powers that be oppose his agenda and, even if they didn’t, the GOP majority is too slim to pass anything. That’s the problem. Think, McFly. Think!

      • “It is a blessing that Mueller has revealed the prosecutorial abuses and tactics. I was truly naive before this and held the FBI in high esteem. ”

I feel the same way. I grew up idolizing the FBI, thinking they were super professional. Instead, I find they are a bunch of 15 year old mean girls with subpoenas.

  4. Indian food is heavily vegetarian and it is hard to get alcohol in India.

India is a big place with lots of people, so there has to be people who don’t fit the paradigm. But they have two big religions, one of which doesn’t like meat and one of which doesn’t like alcohol.

India has a reputation for having lots of people who smell bad and who crap in the middle of the street.

  5. If he had a deep and burning hatred, Trump made the worst possible move in firing him. He would have done well to keep his enemies close, as the adage goes, rather than spiteful punishment terminations that explode in his face. Had he successfully coopted Comey, there would be no Mueller hounding him now.

Take Trump at his word — “it was my great honor” — and realize it was about him feeling good in that moment, not about acting smart.

If he could go back and undo the decision he surely would, which is why he’s desperately overcompensating now that Comey is tearing him a new one. It was no accident that Comey specifically interjected the bit about Melania… he knows that roiling Trump’s personal life further will get to him have major downstream effect.

    April 13, 2018 at 9:40 AM

    • Wrong. As FBI Director Comey would have had enormous resources at his disposal to create problems for and sabotage Trump with. But without the sunlight that Mueller’s patently obvious political hitjob has on it. And now Trump’s conscious will allow him to burn Comey to ash when he’s done since Trump gave Comey a chance to do the right thing early in his Administration. Remember, Comey told Trump personally that he was not under investigation but refused Trump multiple times to say so publicly to clear the air. He refused to do so because he knew was lying to Trump, that Trump was in fact under de facto investigation by the Deep State. And further, Comey knew there was nothing to investigate but that the entire fraud was a fishing expedition to overturn a lawful election.

If the FBI had a deep and burning hatred of Trump someone would have leaked before election day that his campaign was being investigated for colluding with Russia.

If he could go back and undo the decision he surely would, which is why he’s desperately overcompensating now that Comey
Why doesn’t he fire Kushner, the jabrone who told him to fire Comey in the first place?

      April 13, 2018 at 11:59 AM

      • “If the FBI had a deep and burning hatred of Trump someone would have leaked before election day that his campaign was being investigated for colluding with Russia.”

Everyone thought Trump has no chance of winning the election, so why do illegal stuff to prevent something that nobody thought would happen anyway?

Also, I’ll sort of take Comey at his word here. He hated Trump before the election like everyone else in the Deep State hated him, then the hatred increased after he won, but the hatred became super-intense after meeting Trump in person.

  6. I bet you would be called up before HR for racism if you complained directly to a co-worker about body odor.

    April 13, 2018 at 10:13 AM

    • I haven’t complained about Indian body odor but I did get taken into a private room and accused of racism by my politically correct boss after a joke about an Indian coworker not being able to speak English. Later on that same boss received multiple complaints from customers about the Indian employee not understanding their emails and not being able to do what they wanted. I had a certain amount of schadenfreude watching all the problems being created for my boss by this.

In my former work people have done both, and it worked to some degree. It was a smaller company of less than 200 people.

    April 13, 2018 at 10:20 AM

  9. The key to understanding Comey’s corruption is to grasp his relationship to Clinton attorney, former DOJ attorney and Marc Rich attorney Peter Kadzik, Clinton’s fixer at DOJ.

  10. Perhaps Indians (in India at least) aren’t particularly concerned about issues of personal hygiene because they have more basic issues to grapple with.

In fact, one black lady I knew was quite taken aback by it (the blacks were comparatively clean and non-hippie-ish). One hippie girl I knew was Jewish but most were presumably gentiles.

  13. One thing I greatly dislike about working at the Major Home Improvement Retailer is the toilet stench. While the customers are generally a diverse lot there always are quite a few overweight middle aged and older men. This is especially true on early weekend shifts. The problem is that overweight middle aged and older men have very poor colon management skills. It is not uncommon for them to be occupying all three toilet stalls, blowing out massive loads of feces with earsplitting sound and a stench that extends far beyond the restroom itself.

        April 13, 2018 at 5:05 PM

    • Probably it’s a result of them eating a lot of oily junk food. Obviously sh*t smells bad, but when it contains undigested fat, it’s the worst. Perhaps it’s nature’s way of warning hungry people that the calories contained in the feces are not worth it.

      April 13, 2018 at 3:14 PM

      • I think it’s more the pattern of middle aged men making extreme efforts to not be at home. They generally do not want to be at their own house at all. Gotta buy some things for the project? Might as well plan the defecation and nail clipping and haircut around this shopping trip. More time away from the wife and kids.

This pattern is very obvious in offices evenly mixed with 20s 30s 40s dudes. The older married guys will love hanging around and taking care of errands during the work day.

You bump into this when women talk about some guy you know well and say “He works such long hours, it’s so hard.” When you know he works a pretty regular undemanding week. He just goes to great lengths to Not Be At Home.

        April 13, 2018 at 8:47 PM

      • I can understand that… loud kids and household chores make being at home more stressful than the quiet office.

I read somewhere recently that proles don’t marry for love. If true, why spend more time than you have to with someone who is primarily a living sex doll? Plus, these prole women like to talk about the dumbest things and I’ve got limited patience as a sounding board.

        April 14, 2018 at 5:11 AM

    • Some would say that unloading massive loads of feces somewhere other than in your own home is in fact excellent colon management skills.

So one time, I had an urgent need to poop, so I went into the local public library and unloaded in there. The library is right next to the homeless shelter, and there are almost always smelly bums in the library bathroom hanging out. I could hear them outside the stall making sardonic comments about the stench I was creating. I thought to myself, “now you know how I feel, having to put up with your foul BO all the time, deadbeats!”

      April 15, 2018 at 7:22 PM

  14. Just speculating but could the nasty smell be coming from hair oil? I know someone (male) who started using hair oil and the stench was god awful and difficult to describe. Like horrible BO on steroids. It was nightmarish having to stand within a few feet of this person, the stench lingered and I could even smell it from a room away.

    April 13, 2018 at 10:17 PM

  20. My intern year, there was an Indian (meaning actually from India) student doing an observership on our psych ward, and he had bad BO. One of the nurses asked my Indian-American classmate to serve as kind of a mediator and talk to the guy about proper American hygienic standards, but of course she demurred. I had the idea that any foreigner coming to America should receive a “welcome kit” including, among other things, instructions on American hygienic standards and a free starter stick of deodorant.

    April 13, 2018 at 10:40 PM

    • Also, once I was on a flight seated directly behind an Indian woman who had bad BO. I was totally trapped–there’s nowhere to go on an airplane. It was horrible!

      April 13, 2018 at 10:41 PM

  21. I’ve never encountered the Indian BO phenomenon, but I nevertheless believe I know the reason for it. In my experience Indians are the most ostentiously arrogant group going- they seem to walk around with a “damn I’m good” delusion. Since they don’t feel they have to impress anyone but each other, they can naturally be careless about hygiene. Contrast blacks. Because they were stereotypically charged with smelling bad, but wanted to prove themselves to whites, they actually made efforts in that area, and of all the complaints people now have about them, smelling bad is seldom listed. So smelling bad is just an aspect of Indian aggression toward others they look down on.

    April 13, 2018 at 11:28 PM

    • Blacks naturally have bad body odor, particularly after any physical activity, but most also tend to be obsessed with personal hygiene and using odorful deodorants/perfumes/colognes/body washes. Black women in particular seem hyper-vigilant towards anyone with bad BO and will even point out and make fun of such people to their faces.

      April 14, 2018 at 5:45 PM

  22. So Indian or Jewish BO is a micro-aggression…

    April 14, 2018 at 6:43 AM

  23. I think I’ve made this comment before, but I seem to remember a time when people made fun of Mexican BO. Now it focuses totally on East Indians, I guess given their dietary and hygiene habits and their very foreign culture.
