Finding that conservatives are more “authoritarian” and less tolerant was bogus research

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/07/how-social-science-might-be-misunderstanding-conservatives.html

Nice to see a mainstream publication admitting up to this and presenting the compelling research proving that all the older research was massively biased.

  1. It’s confusion of semantics by liberals. What liberals understand as authoritarian was basic standards 20-30 years ago. Expect standards we take for granted to be labeled “fascistic” 5-10 years from now.

    • The term “authoritarian” was pure bullshit right from the start when it was coined in the 30s. It has never been anything more than a smear word used by communists.

      • “Funded by communists,” would be an antisemitic slur.

  2. NY Mag is indeed a typically regressive-left SWPL rag, but Jesse Singal is consistently a great and fair science journalist. He is also HBD aware, but has to play his cards carefully.

    • “Even if you’re not broadly sympathetic to the idea that liberal bias in academia is a major problem — and I certainly view that claim as overstated — 14-to-1 is, well, a big gap.”

My favorite line from the article. I filed it under the ‘play his cards carefully’ category.

  3. So people are authoritarian for things they believe in. Except the right is generally correct in their beliefs (minus religious kookery) whereas the left thinks equality is real (worse than religious kookery).

So right wing authoritarianism is more justifiable and valuable than left wing authoritarianism.

The right should never shy away from authoritarianism because that just cedes the battlefield to left wing authoritarians.

  4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replication_crisis

Steven Pinker has pointed out that IQ testing is the one area of social science testing where this is not a problem.

But I consistently read, “studies have shown no difference between gay and straight parenting.”

    • This is another example of alleged agnostics/atheists having much of their knowledge being faith-based.

The majority of these science “findings” in the last few decades are incorrect or being portrayed incorrectly. There really is no defense against this other than to ignore the latest “findings” and “so it turns out that” pronouncements.

In this case the studies were replicable but were measuring the participants feeling on the topic, not authoritarianism. You could replicate all day long and still reach incorrect conclusions.

  5. Some of the research on authoritarianism explicitly call it “right-wing authoritarianism”. Eg, see
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-wing_authoritarianism

The academic researchers in the field are nearly all left-wingers, and they are less likely to recognize leftist views as authoritarian.

Hitler was supposedly the perfect example of a right-wing authoritarian, and the research tries to paint conservatives as being lesser versions of Hitler.

  6. I’ve always known this to be the case. It’s like the way liberals will say ‘prison doesn’t work, it just breeds more criminals’ yet they are always wanting racists and other thought criminals to be sent to prison. I never heard this argument used for Tommy Robinson, for example, who was arrested, tried and sent down in the space of four hours. Prison certainly seems to work for him.

It’s not that they are against prison, they just don’t care about most crime, only the political kind.

  7. Social Science isn’t science. And I have a social science degree, so I should know.

  8. Slightly O/t – Has anyone ever visited the Liberal Blue State of NY’s capital of Albany to realize that the Empire State Plaza, the vast area with its repulsive buildings right before city hall (which is pre-war and beautiful) is one helluva fascist piece of sh!t!

It’s very Soviet in style and downright creepy (the egg structure reminds of us of V with the Nazi Reptilians and their space ships).

Authoritarian and brutal. Yes and yes. Even Hitler would faint upon gazing at these structures. Post-war architecture built in the 1960s as part of the urban renewal project in the Northeast were disgusting, which often required the clearance of pre-war structures to make room for these pieces of lego dung.

  9. Interesting to note that a lot of the mentioned scientists who question the dogma happen to be Israelis, probably because that although they are also leftists liberals they are much more aware about the craziness and bias of the left when it comes to the issue of Israel, so Israelis pretty quickly develop a nose for this kind of bullshit and raise the question whether it could be the case also regrading other issues.
