Lion of the Blogosphere

Podcast recommendations?

I listened the first two episodes of Alice Isn’t Dead, but couldn’t get into it.

Started listening to Hello From the Magic Tavern, but it was TOO FUNNY and I was barely able to contain my laughter, which is a problem if you are listening at work. I had to stop listening.

      • Me too, and also quirky, unique history podcasts. Definitely NOT current politics.

In summary, they try to gen up cop hate and “islamophobia”, along with shaky (at best) lame witnesses to guilt you into letting him go, whitey.

Seriously, even diehards see the guy did it, now it’s just about phony “fair trial” bogus arguments. But the SWPL crowd ate it up, obviously! Also twitter moms.

      • Yes, when some of my NPR loving friends told me they were fans, I predicted I would hate it and I did!

        July 24, 2018 at 4:19 PM

      • I LOVE Serial and at the same time I was convinced that Anand was guilty by the end of the first episode.

I became more convinced that he was guilty with each proceeding episode.

    • I agree with Otis. Serial is well produced and well told, and leaves the decision about guilt open. I am convinced Anand is guilty as well.

  5. If you want educational background noise I like cspan booktv.

  6. While not fiction, Business Wars depicts entertaining stories in a well produced serialized format like Adidas vs. Nike and Blockbuster vs. Netflix.

And I think you’d really get your teeth into S-Town (same producers as Serial).

  8. good article handicapping the House race:

Says that the Dems are slight favorites.

Ironically, reading it made me much more certain that the Republicans will keep the House.

  10. Cumtown is the greatest podcast that exists. It is also way too funny to listen to at work though.

  11. The Onion’s parody of Serial:

    July 24, 2018 at 6:21 PM

  12. No Agenda show

Adam Curry (the inventor of the podcast) and John C Dvorak deconstruct the news and media. .

Oh wait, you want fiction, etc. Nevermind.

  13. The No Agenda Show seems like the perfect fit.

With a thousand episode backlog if you end up liking it…
And as a long time reader i would almost bet lion does!

Some even say it’s the best podcast in the universe!

  14. Even if you have no particular interest in missing persons cases I would recommend The Vanished Podcast

Marissa the host does a terrific job, especially when she has interviews with family members of missing people. She has a very soothing voice, which really fits the often-grim subject matter. What I like best is the the podcast isn’t fixated with the same people who get all the attention, namely young cute non-addict/stripper/hooker white women. Many of the cases feature people who are quite flawed, and humanizes them.

  15. Cum Town is funny (but maybe that’s not what you’re looking for). Example:

You Must Remember The podcast about the secret and/or forgotten history of Hollywood’s first century. This is a very interesting and entertaining podcast. It frequently little known or long forgotten entertainers from the early part of the 20th century.

Also, give a listen to Hollywood and Crime is a ground-breaking true crime series about the most infamous murders in Tinseltown history. I just finished the series about the Wonderland murders and John Holmes which occurred in Laurel Canyon in the early 80’s. I especially the interviews with the orginal LAPD detectives assigned to the case. I highly recommend this podcast..

    • +1 for You Must Remember This. The woman who does the podcast did a 12-part series on Charles Manson that was released separately after his death. It’s called You Must Remember Manson. I’m halfway through it and I’m enjoying it as much as S-Town or Serial, even thought it’s a different podcast genre. Highly recommended, no matter how familiar you are with Manson’s story.

Alice Isn’t Dead has its moments, but it ultimately sucks. Or at least the first 10-part season does. I wish I hadn’t listened to it all.

  20. One of the unfortunate things about a new SCOTUS nomination is that we have to once again have to relive Roe v Wade. Roe v. Wade is about more than abortion. It is a litmus / or shit test of whether a Supreme Court justice will but his or her thumb on the scale of justice in favor of women. The concept of ‘privacy’ is a tool that is really only there to help people who squat to pee and I know that because I have never heard how it should apply to men particularly from the most extreme proponents of women’s rights.

President Trump is basically taking arrows for all men. Think about his privacy in the following cases:

    1. Hillary Clinton – 19 women to come forward – false abuse accusations
    2. Stormy Daniels – revenge porn / shake down
    3. Michael Cohen – pressured his lawyer who handled his family court business
    4. Pee Gate – fake accusations of the most salacious kind
    5. etc.

This attempt at male sexual shaming is much more than an attack on Donald Trump and if they can take him down, they can take anyone else down.

    Prof. Woland

    • IF they can take him down.
At this point the hypocrisy, selfishness, and blindness of Feminism is on full display. Feminists played their cards in the 90s with Clnton, willing to protect an obvious sexual predator, in a very real sense. Now they are just unloading on every man with a normal sexual drive. No one with any balls, brains, or life experience buys this shit.

  21. Better to search for “best fiction podcasts” and look at the “Top Ten” lists. Looks like it’s mostly science fiction and Twilight Zone type stuff. Quite a bit of overlap on the lists, too. I’d probably start with those since it means more people thought they were worth recommending.
