The Innocents on Netflix, a totally spoiler-free review

I love teen romance dramas, and then throw in the some supernatural stuff and it gets even better. It takes place in northern England, London, and Norway. A half-black kid is one of the major characters, but otherwise it’s a very white show, as white as it gets today. As an intelligent kid with an English accent, the black kid is really a white person on the inside. Except when he takes of his shirt and he’s way more ripped than a normal nerdy white high school kid.

Highly recommended!

  1. I’ve been watching Doc Martin. It’s a charming and offbeat British comedy and is about as vibrancy-free as the modern UK gets.

    • I second doc martin! Except for one or two episodes where the dr treats individuals for fallout from odd sexual behavior, it’s also completely child safe.

I wonder what lion would diagnose the doctor with? He’s obviously supposed to have some degree of aspergers.

  2. I actually started this and got about 20 minutes in before I got bored and bailed. Is there something (obviously I know there is a supernatural element) that makes this show worth wading through a lot of boring set up?

These days there is so much content that I don’t want to waste time on shows where I’m promised it will get good in two or three seasons. I’ve been tricked too many times by that.

    • Both ST:TNG and ST:DS9 really didn’t hit their strides until the beginning of their third seasons.

      • True, but in the 80’s and 90’s there was very little (almost none) genre TV to watch. So those shows were like TV monopolies; if you want to see space ships and aliens, those were almost your only choices. That’s not the case today.

  3. “I love teen romance dramas“. Now we know the real reason you post anonymously Lion! Seriously though, I find women characters nearly always drag a show down, especially if there is romantic conflict. I’ve enjoyed Supernatural, ridiculous as it is, but if they were dragging love interests around? Ugh. Mixing romance in with an action, mystery or adventure story is almost always a negative.

There’s no getting away from the Quasi-Homoerotic Black Male Physical Superiority Fetish.

  5. Lion, are you a fan of Downton Abbey and similar period dramas?

  6. I started to pirate stream The Innocents but turned it off after I realized they were pushing race shit. I’m not watching that.

You can’t expect to sit around playing video games and eating junk food and have a decent physique. My recommendation is to stop your homo fixation on coloreds and do some exercise. Look at zack efron. Short skinny little jew boy who works out. He’s not huge but he’s ripped and looks great. You could have done the same. Look at that degenerate putz Anthony Wiener. He’s your age and he’s ripped. You think he did something you can’t? If you put 1/10 the effort into exercise that you used to put into studying then you’d be awesome in 6 months. Just start slow, be consistent and work up.

    • I don’t see any benefit to being ripped. I’ve had a six-pack and I’ve been pudgy. It’s made no difference.

      • I’m not talking about extreme dieting to lose body fat the way bodybuilders do. I was talking about skinny guys who work out and build muscle get “ripped”. But even if someone is a chub, if they work out and lose the lard they’ll get ripped, too. I’m not saying that someone should obsess about getting ripped. It’s more of a natural consequence of getting in shape. Regardless, being “pudgy” is both unattractive and unhealthy.
